Isn’t there talks for a solo BW film? I’d consider that to be similar to Solo, in the sense that it’s a film that nobody asked for.

Actually, I think it was the opposite. A BW film was more wanted than a CM film to begin with. The MCU BW has enough backstory that could be explored more in-depth. It's implied she and WS knew each other before. Also they can explore more of the Red Room stuff, or the Budapest mission.

I think this all hinges on Endgame now. If Endgame gives a satisfactory ending to the story-arcs of most of the original 6 Avengers while drumming up sufficient hype for the next generation of heroes then I think this can go on for a very long time. While we may lump them all under the "superhero" genre, the movies themselves have sufficient variation in themes to keep them interesting at the very least.

The new generation will never pull in the crowds the OG characters did. They could very well still do well but they will not replicate what RDJ, Evans etc did.

That could be the case, but I think it's too early to tell yet for sure. Evans and Hemsworth were relatively unknown prior to taking their roles in the MCU, and RDJ wasn't exactly a popular choice when casting news broke out. I'd say it took a while for the 3 to actually gain the huge audiences they have now (just look at the BO numbers from their phase 1 solo films all the way to the current films).

Lion king..... ****ing frozen 2? Toy story 4? Aladdin. Godzilla? Hell maybe even joker if it’s good. It’s not hard for a movie to make a billion. Especially if that movie is tied to one of the biggest movies of the yr

You think all of those movies will make more than Captain Marvel? Interesting. We will see.

A Billion is pretty hard to make actually. Only 36 movies out of 772 $200+Milliondollar movies at the boxoffice have ever crossed the Billion dollar mark.

5 films broke a Billion dollar last year. it has become a little easier, recently to hit that mark, Because of access to the huge Chinese market, plus Premium ticket prices such as I-Max & RPX. I suspect 2019 will have even more members of the Billion dollar club.

They may not all hit a Billon, But they will still be better films than CM was.

Absolutely true. I would say MCU is dead in the water after EG.

I might even say they will screw up EG trying to make the next phase characters more important than they should be, in an attempt to set up phase 2.

It feels like what they try to do with the comics , when a character has had a good run, they try to branch off with new stuff, it never works.

That wasn't my question though. I was asking about box office results.

I know, but I can't resist taking a shot at CM. Anyway, AEG, Star Wars Frozen 2, Toy story 4 Lion King are sure bets, Spiderman, Godzilla both have a good shot. Overall I see 7-9 films at 1B plus by years ends.

I think Godzilla could be a sure thing.

Doesn’t open memorial day weekend?

If so, and the weather is crappy in major cities that weekend, it could do a billion easy.

First weekend , and weather, are very intricately linked Memorial day weekend.

I hope making a billion isn't industry standard. IMO that kind of film is never gonna be the gritty, sticky, "realistic" comic book movie like I was hoping the BW solo movie would be e.g. more TWS and less fluffy and jokey.

Tho the BW solo movie - for my taste - seems to be shaping up well - cast, stuntpeople:

I dunno:dunno. Just based on fan love for Tom Holland, that's the preteen/teen girl crowd dollars + it's Spiderman. Believe next BP movie will have huge turnout. Maybe it won't be the heights of the MCU, but it COULD be. I'm already intrigued by the idea of an Eternals movie. Marvel has a good formula going esp. if you stack it with interesting actors.
And sometimes it's unexpected like I'd love to see more of Winston Duke's M'baku. Tell me the next BP has Bucky hanging out in Wakanda as the White Wolf, M'baku, and Okoye + Bosman's T'challa and I'm buying presale tickets.

It's like I'm heading for the door, sad but my wallet is relieved, but Disney reels me back, the b@stards.:banghead

The only characters I’m interested in are spider man and black panther in this next phase. They better bring in the mutants and ff tease cause they’re new films sound meh. Really? Shang chi? Eternals? Give us freaking moon knight and ghost rider

You mean you can't wait to see Gay Hercules get it on with some man lovin' in the Eternals??? That's a $$billion dollar movie scene right there!! :yess:

Phase 4 for the win... People will forget all about Thanos and EndGame next year after we get teased with Ms Marvel & Iron Heart... :monkey3

Tony Stark who?? Riri for the win.

It would be a dream come true to have a credible, comic book accurate, Fantastic Four realized on the big screen as part of the MCU. Such important characters, such a cool concept that is very cinematic, but has never been done right.

I don't know - I just checked and the 2014 movie only made $529M worldwide, with $200M in the US and $77M in China. It's going to have really do well across the board to hit $1B. It could do it, but I don't think it's a slam dunk by any means.

I agree.. I would be shocked if it made it to a billion.. I worry that people will be like "I remember how you fooled me last time with bad ass trailers"

I fear the goodwill may have been ruined a little bit..

Let hope you guys are wrong....

If your right I may never get to see Hedorah in a big budge American version.

The last trailers for Godzilla were atmospheric villain Godzilla type trailers. These new trailers show the action and monsters Godzilla will face plus looks of destruction and paints Godzilla as the hero. So that alone can garner hype

It would also be a dream come true to have X Men in comic costumes. I am more interested in the figures than the actual movies so having a fantastic four and x men collection would be spectacular.
