And just think Michael Biehn was on screen with both of them. Ripley and Conner are both bad ass in that they don't stop fighting for what they care about. I always liked them and never really thought about their gender. Today is different and I feel if a character is written and acted well then it doesn't matter a strong character is a strong character. Most people suck today and need validation every 5 seconds and have to be told what to think and like. It's really sad that we have almost become a society of toddlers.

Cameron was doing this stuff long before it was cool. He knew how to do it so that none of us blinked an eye or ever felt the need to go ''Oh come ONNN!!'' - all just perfectly natural and believable characters who happened to be female. Hopefully that remains true for the Avatar sequels and T6.

Seems like some serious overcompensation to me. "Believe the hype" seems to be repeated over and over again. Seems like some serious damage control. Not to mention the heavy handed repetitions of how "empowering" this movie is.

Seems like the plan for this film is to make any criticism socially unacceptable. Its like the more extreme version of what happened with the 2016 Ghostbusters. This film is too empowering and too important to be judged critically. No, anyone that doesn't like it is just a sexist and should be ignored. If you want to fight the patriarchy, go see this movie multiple times and don't think too much about its quality.

I got a vibe that Marvel was into this toxic garbage last year when Black Panther came out. It was a decent movie sure, but was sold as the second coming of The Dark Knight.

That guy saying 'believe the hype' is the first I've heard of any 'hype' for this movie. :dunno

And :exactly: to the part in bold.

Maybe one reviewer is using code to get the word out that CM sucks. "Believe the hype [aka 27% RT audience rating] on Captain Marvel! You've been warned!"

I have faith that no current year identity politics garbage will be in Avatar or T6 since it didn't appear in Alita.

Just think critics or some groups are - insane:cuckoo:. Like religious people getting worked up and speakin' in tongues (babble). Hysteria. Like the guy who was cryin' over Black Panther. I "sort of" get Black Panther hype, thanks to some well-written articles that made real sense.
(Talk about *awkward*:lol when I had to carefully explain to a black friend why the film was so important and to try to stay awake next time:monkey3)

But at the end of the day, Black Panther as a film IMO has some glaring flaws, including the CW/BP continuity problem, or IMO Killmonger just burning up the sacred herb - which to me was totally pointless. (I mean, in theory, wouldn't he want to stay king and his heirs would kind of need that?)

IMO CM nonsense if far worse, and completely artificial hype, totally ignoring all those female-led films:mad:. It isn't empowering for anyone to have their intelligence insulted. Leaving aside the numbers of women and/or other who are totally and happily into all these white - and other - males for 10 years:lol. Males who had excellent relationships with females - a team. It's created an issue where there was none.

Anyway assume these European folks are like the U.S. - INVITED. Carefully picked. And I'll guess the film isn't a train wreck. But not that great either, if the trailers show the highlights of a film. IMO if Marvel were that sure, they'd lift the review embargo early the way they did for Ragnarok.

I’ve seen every MCU film on the first day they came out. I'll be sitting this one out!

Got my tickets for Sunday to take my daughter, I've paid zero attention to any politics or "hype" surrounding this film, just expect to be entertained like any other Marvel movie. How they market it means nothing to me.

Nothing she said made even a slight dent into my 11 year 20 movies investment leading up to AEG.

No way in hell will her opinion on Press Junkets and Movie Reviews of all things for crying out loud will all of a sudden make me NOT watch an MCU movie especially the one right BEFORE AEG the one TIED TO AEG yeah like how about NO, my butt will be there first show opening night like duh talk about a no brainer!

So because of her opinion i’m now just going to throw away:

All those trips to the movie theater for the last 11 years, tickets, food, gas, parking who cares right ABANDON SHIP BRIE HAS AN OPINION ABOUT PRESS JUNKETS!

All my blurays bought just throw them away now BYE MCU it was nice knowing you but ABANDON SHIP BRIE HAS AN OPINION ABOUT PRESS JUNKETS!

I’m not gonna let one movie tarnish the mcu and it’s endless possibilities. It has xmen and ff. It’s damn near complete. This movie could be horrid but I still love the mcu and can’t wait for the future. I just won’t see this movie. No big deal. Didn’t even watch ant man and wasp yet. Could care less about these characters. As long as she doesn’t over shadow the better characters coming and the current ones im sure I’ll be fine.

I’m not worried about captain marvel being the female face of marvel when they literally have storm back.

This film isn't a direct tie in to EG. Maybe the post credits scene, but big deal.

Well the way I look at it is that you’re either really invested in the MCU by now or you’re not.

I am.

Therefore one silly actress babbling about press junket diversity isn’t going to alter my plans.

I have no intention of abandoning the MCU. I just have no desire to see this film. IMHO Captain Marvel is a terrible character in the comics, she is narcissism incarnate. Her comics don’t sell yet Marvel keeps relaunching a new run, only to have it too canceled for low sales. It feels like Marvel are trying to push this on character on us. So, for that reason, plus Brie Larson’s big mouth, I’ll be going to see Alita again on March 8th.

Same. I’m too invested to let a little publicity misinterpretation sway me from seeing a new MCU movie.
