1) I have no problems at all with the proto paint job. If mine comes out that good I will be VERY happy.

2) I wonder if Josh has to take the pressure off the pedal when he paints these, if he makes it look too good and the factory can't mimic it then it leads to all the "it doesn't look like the proto" complaints.

I can't imagine being told to back off, what's the sense of paying him to do it if you don't want him to do his best, you could probably get someone to do his backed off as their best for cheaper.

I dunno. I can kinda see his point. We already know that Sideshow's wary of anything they don't think can be done in production. Firefly's camo balaclava is a perfect example of this.

I know what you mean, but wouldn't that lead to a bunch of griping when the final product arrives and it doesn't look nearly as nice as the proto? We've all accepted the let down previously because its never been quite as night and day as the difference between a smallstudios paint job and a factory job.

Side note, does anyone remember the difference between the Hasbro 12" ROTS figure pictures on the box from the actual product?

I just kind of sucks that if we get awesome paint shown, but there are no efforts on Sideshow's part to step-up their game.

If its one area that they are consistently behind Sideshow and Enterbay its in painting their heads. The recent Anakin was pretty good... but still about 2 years behind HT.

I just remember that there were some good ones, like Dooku and Jango, and then some bad ones like the Doogie Hauser Anakin from AOTC. :lol

I understand that setting too high a bar on the proto that the production can't live up is dangerous, but like I said, why select a painter with a style and quality if you're not looking for them to do that to your work, to me it's a waste of the painter's time and your money if you hire them to do half the job you're capable of.

i see your point. But I'd rather hire someone whose 100% is more than I need than hire someone whose 100% is just barely adequate for what I want.

Yes and no. A high caliber painter would be able to give you exactly what you asked for. Whereas a mediocre painter would be playing Russian roulette with getting it right where you want it to be.

here's what i meant about the Hasbro ROTS figures. Check out the Shak Ti.

The Palpatine figure was even worse of a photoshop/repaint job.

That was poor choice by Hasbro, all the photos of the figures have photo effects going on with them that make the figures looks much nicer than they'd ever come from a factory like.

yeah. they added all this weathering and shading and stuff to all the photos. if I preordered that instead of simply flipping the box over and look at the real figure to see the difference I would have been pissed.

I suppose, just seems like a waste.

It's the same as everything else. You don't find a white belt to teach you Karate, you go to a dojo and find a proper Sensei. When you have car problems, you take it to an ASC certified mechanic and not the tinkering neighbor. You go to the doctor when you break something instead of consorting with the local voodoo witch doctor, etc. This is no different. Sideshow's just going to the professional.

I guess I'm having trouble with the sculpt because I can't seem to imagine Temuera Morrison with that sort of hair...it just can't be done!

It seems to me that a company would want the prototype to be as perferct as possible so as to make it more desireable, and therefore, a good selling tool. Also, the intent is to get the manufacturer to get the production copies as close to the prototype as possible, so, in theory, the better the proto, the better the production copy.

There is no win in slacking off on the proto.

Wow....they are actually pretty much charging the same as Hot Toys now. :slap:cuckoo:

Unfortunately, for the same price I fear it will arrive looking far less impressive than the prototype and have cheap plastic armor, floppy arms and a sub-par painted face with funky eyes.

Sorry, too many HT figures I can get for $125 that I know will be worth that price. Sideshow needs to get it together better before they start charging this much.
Just imagine if you'd paid that much for a floppy headed Indiana Jones or the Clonetrooper whose arms won't stay up to even hold his gun...
I have bought every 1/6 scale SW figure (and complete Jabba set) since the beginning and have not been impressed with the direction it has gone. The figures have not improved that much,if anything some (any clone/stormtrooper w/dumb looking non connected chest armor...Indy,etc) have gotten much worse. Instead of monkey armed figures we get floppy armed ones. Plus, what a piss poor exclusive they keep using. They can't even make a special gun or accessory or something for the exclusive?! A cheap different sticker on a cheap plastic stand. Wow.

Sadly,I have stopped ordering any non Hot Toys figures from SSC until I see proof they are worth the money, which right now they are not. After getting burned on my last 4 figures having massive problems,I'm done with their SW line for now.Plus, you can see the prices are no where even close to going up in value like Hot Toys are. Just look on ebay. Why order from SSC when you can find it on clearance from a 3rd party company online 6 months from now?

Remember when Jedi Luke came out and SSC swore they were going to keep the Star Wars figures at around the $50 range? LOL, the rate their prices have gone up compared to the quality of the product do not match and that's a fact.
