Monger, did you like Harley? I thought she looked awful just imo like a doll as I said before. No worries if you like her, I get it. Did you ever see Baroness, the seams looked horrible. Unless they can guarantee much better QC I like sculpted with a bit of fabric. I guess that's why they keep doing both styles--to please all of us. I am just tired of cheap fabrics being used on the ladies and hiding their beautiful curves. Ivy lloked great sculpted but her paint was awful so it is hit and miss. On the boys though, the fabric usually looks great. It does work nicely on Cap and Supes :). I hear your point tho. I would be for a bodysuit if it worked, but after seeing that cheap fabric on Harley, I want Catwoman painted with a fabric whip as the PF part. Of course IMO and to each their own, you have valid points I just have not liked Sideshow QC lately. Black Widow comic PF tho is looking good but we will see if her fabric outfit is a disaster in hand or not. :)

I don't care for Harley as a character. I like how her outfit turned out, sans the pointless nipples, since I always imagined it to be like pajamas anyway. I agree Baroness turned out poorly from the back seam, but she looked fine otherwise and I don't buy statues to stare at their butts. Did you see Spiderwoman? She's all sculpt and all terrible. Sculpts therefore are flawed and a poor option compared to fabrics. Look at Batman for example he looks great and he has fabric! Isn't cherry picking fun?

Harley's outfit looks like how I imagine it would in real life. Catwoman has a very different kind of outfit so I do not suspect it would turn out similar to Harley, but the fear of it turning out similar to Baroness I think is a very valid point. At the same time, one could imagine it turning out like Batman as well. We can't write it off quite yet.

At the very least, I think my point still stands that everyone on Batman's side so far that could have fabric have fabric so it would be odd to me to suddenly opt for all sculpt for Catwoman. Some people use Ivy as an example of choosing not to use mixed media, but what would have been mixed media? Real plants?

I can think of many bad instances of sculpted outfits and many bad instances of fabric outfits. M Bison looks terrible from PCS (which should not be surprising given that it's PCS) because of the fabric choice. It ruined what was otherwise a nice statue. Alex on the other hand, looks much better than otherwise because his fabric overalls brought out the character.

I like mixed media because it catches one's eye to the areas that would otherwise be uninteresting in comparison to the head sculpt. At the same time, it means less possible paint application errors so it serves many purposes in that regard. If Catwoman is just a sculpt painted black, then the only interesting part will end up being her head, which would be a shame.

I think of you as the biggest advocate for sculpting, which I also find puzzling because your picture features two statues greatly enhanced by their mixed media. Bride of Frankenstein would be quite boring if her outfit was sculpted. The Monster benefits a lot too. My Dracula would be quite a snooze if he was all sculpted. Mixed media also ages MUCH better than regular sculpting. If we are talking plain paint apps and sculpt, then Dracula is not on par with what Sideshow can offer these days. If we're talking his outfit though, he's only beat by their most latest creations like the Joker, and even then it is quite subjective. So long as the tailoring is good and the materials chosen are good, the outfit ages quite nicely whereas sculpts can often be beaten and enhanced the better the paint apps. Look at the Poison Ivy PF. It's a disaster if you compare it to the production models. Joker though? His outfit looks more or less the same.

Ivy's stockings could've been fabric.

It would have looked horrible. It doesn't work well for tight clothing. Loose fitting stuff or robes is fine.

Furthermore, cleaning a mixed media statue is a pain in the ***.

just look at thr star wars mythos stuff. All sculpted and full of win.

You are right about the old Uni Monster PFs. Sideshow did an incredible job back in the day. These PFs were solid, had beautiful tailoring. I totally forgot about the Spider Woman issue and you're right, she was a complete DISASTER. I guess it is hit or miss regardless. I just think if they go with that strange "butt facing us" Catwoman pose things will look weird fabric or not. Personally, if I were Sideshow Design Team I would scrap Art Germs Catwoman pose altogether. He's a fantastic artist but his PF concept imo just doesn't work and looks very odd for a statue pose. When I think of Deadpool PF, he looked awesome but things always go south with the ladies lately, not sure why. I hope whether all-sculpted or not, Catwoman looks good and that theyre not lazy with the tailoring if they use fabric. Her bodysuit needs to be skin-tight, no lazy stiching and they need to show off her curves and sculpt beautifully. If not, I'm not buying. Thanks for the reminder about Spider Woman, lol now you got me worried :lol:panic:

Spider-Woman is a beautiful sculpt. You just have to get a good one. It's worth noting that I think Sideshow hasn't really messed up a DC statue yet. So if they decide to use a fabric, hopefully a new type like Superman or Batman on Catwoman I think she'll be cool. Fully sculpted is cool too. But I have a feeling they will try to get the tight leather on her. Especially since they are going that route with the LSF.

Haha yes :exactly: I always thought the same way. Stunning art here for catwoman, but this pose is so weird with her back facing us. The pose is a bit stiff and it can be done so much better for this statue. Also fully sculpted is the best route for this without having it come out looking like black cats leather or the DC direct catwoman which was not good at all in my opinion. :monkey1 The QC on spider woman was huge. SS knows it but they just don't want to say anything to keep thing quiet under the rug. That's just not so good business practices. The statue was so much better in person. But the QC was a huge nightmare. Same as psylocke. Errr ......

On the subject of sculpt vs mixed, I don't think you can rule out either being a good option. I would prefer to see a good mixed media over a good sculpt, but would be strongly in favor of a good sculpt over mixed media that is prone to problems. I can imagine her outfit being difficult to make en mass while maintaining good QC.

Black cat, baroness?

They usually go for cheap fabrics and the sculpt under the fabric is always weak becausr they know it is covered up. A strong sculpt can mimic the best cloth. Look at Obi Wan Mythos.

Add the Punisher Com to that list. The sculpted rolls and folds to his pants and shirt are exquisite. Add the great factory paint job and that turned out to be an EPIC fully sculpted piece.

I can't imagine that working out well.

i think fabric would have been better then the lame A$$ paint job i had on mine. But....really..it don't matter. i just think think the whole thing would have been better if the plants would have "not" been attached to her legs. the should have went around her legs, not onto them...but hey..im not the sculpter...so my opinion does not matter. i bought her anyway...lol

Since everyone is sounding off, I decided to stake my claim.

Sculpted. Fully sculpted is my preference. Give me a statue that was crafted with attention to detail. Muscles, veins, posture, expression, and even textures. I think it's a waste to mute all that detail by placing fabric over it.

Fully sculpted has lost a lot of fans because of poor paint jobs, but that's really a knock on the companies' quality control and NOT the art form. I find there's no comparison when fully sculpted is done right.

Let's look at the Artgerm inspired Poison Ivy and Harley Quinn. The Poison Ivy I got in the mail wowed me. A spectacular creation that lived up to the prototype AND artwork.

Looking at the SS product page of Harley Quinn, with the well-lit studio shots, I'm already dismayed by the fabric costume. The overall body looks so boring and undefined. The Artgerm illustration would've been better served by a nice glossy paint, accentuating curves and muscle definition on the arms, legs, torso.

If I have to find a middle ground, I can accept fabric for capes, jackets, cloaks, etc. Fabric that inherently hides detail on a superhero. At least then you could move it around to your liking in any display.

I completely agree. I can deal with capes, hoods, hats, jackets, and maybe a couple other little things, but keep it to a minimum. I'd rather not have any cloth, but if they're going to use it, use it in a way that it compliments the sculpt and doesn't cover it up too much.

I'm starting to wonder if this thread is going to turn out like the WW thread; just speculation and nothing more significant than what we've already been teased. And I'm with you guys. Hot butts should be sculpted. Unless they put fabric over em and you can remove the pants to find a hot sculpted *** in panties. It'd be fun like to see what they'd wear lol. Like Harley couldve had a whole buncha cherry bombs on hers or laughing fish. Ivy could've had like a recycle symbol on hers and so on.
