that ig-88 looks damn good for what it is in the first place and you took him to another level..............well done.....:clap

I have been racking my brain the past few days trying to figure out a way to do Ackbar's collar. I cant sew, so I am stuck trying to think of other alternatives.

I was messing around with some of my Jedi cloaks last and night , specifically the wire that goes around the hood. I had a few sparecloaks, so I cut the hood off the cloak and manipulated the wire around Ackbar's neck. I then cut up the rest of the robe to make a rough mock up pattern for a potential smock.

Here is what it looks like. Remember, this is a mock up. :) Im just trying to see if the wire hood could be used for the neck piece. I think it could with some more work.

What do you guys think? Any other ideas?? Thanks. :)

Chaka, if you wanted to increase the size of the wire to give it more of the look of the original, take a trip to you local DIY store and have a look for soldering wire.
You can get it in a larger size(think its for soldering plumming pipes) and its also pliable, making it perfect for molding into shape like circles.

Just out of interest have you molds of the Ackbar Head and arms or are you just using them straight off the GG bust ?
Just wondering where I can get some from, cos this is really grabbing my interest and wouldn't mind a go at this one myself.

Excellent so far, but then again I wouldn't expect anything less from you, Damb how do you come up with the goods again and again:yess:

The Admiral looks fantastic. That is fantastic stuff. Very creative idea.

Thanks! :)

Thanks!! I do have some excess wire to make the collar bigger, the hoods on these Sideshow cloaks are pretty big. I made it small just to see if it would work in the first place. Also, I dont want the unsculpted neck from the Dragon body to show. The neck from the bust does not extend down and out to the shoulders. I will paint the shoulders of the body to match the bust, so that may hide/solve some of the issues. I have lots of futzing to do before I paint everything up.

I dont have any molds or casts of the Ackbar bust, sorry. I am just using the original. I dont have the knowledge or materials to make casts. I also decided that the glass eyes on the bust would be hard to replicate from a cast so I just hacked up the bust.

I appreciate the kind words. Like I said, it has taken me quite a while to get my head around this one. Im still not sure I have him totally figured out. Thats what makes it fun I guess. :)

well you definitely are on the right track. i think with the right material it will look smashing.........:lecture

Thanks guys. It pays to have all kinds of bits laying about, you are bound to see a solution laying right in front of you. :)

Nice repaint on the IG 88. I might do the same but maybe do a clone was IG-86 assassin Droid.

I may do the same with this one. I have the SSC IG-88 on order and cannot decide if I want to keep it or not. decisions, decisions.

I just got the Battle Droids and those things a well worth getting and seeing how well SS did with them I'm %100 going to getting IG -88.

I was going to give the Hasbro to a friend but when I say what you did with yours I have to give a IG-86 a try.

while more articulation & a light up head is cool..........i don't really need that myself. just a good look to him & i think this is good enough.

btw chris hope you don't mind the pics in here............:wave

He looks great Barry! Thanks for giving us some updated pics. He looks great with the added weathering you did.

btw....I dont mind and will never mind if someone posts pics here. Collaboration and sharing ideas is what this section is all about. :)

thanks chris..............:yess:

i wish i was a better photographer because these pics aren't looking like it does in hand. i guess it's the silver in him that screws with the lighting.......:gah:
maybe i just need a new camera.........

I know what you mean, my IG88 also looks a lot more "silvery" than he really is in my pics.

I new camera couldnt hurt though..could it?? :)

Plus barry he has IG-88's correct head unlike the SS one. :lecture:clap I really wanted the SS one but I can't see paying $160ish + shipping for a flawed figure.

Hey... I didn't even realize that the SSC head was wrong. I'm glad I have the $30 Hasbro version stashed away. A little inspiration from you guys, a bit of elbow grease and I think it'll look great in the collection.

There's gotta be a way to light the Hasbro head. I may look into it.
