That Dominic West is fantastic. Any chance it's going to be Jimmy McNulty from The Wire?

Thanks Jon!. To be honest, I used a lot of reference pics from his part on The Wire as other older pics of him, but as for hair sculpt I was going for a longer version, resembling his appearance in Punisher: War Zone as pre-Jigsaw Billy Russoti. I was also planning another as Theron from 300.

But if there is enough interest in ANY of these versions and /or Jimmy McNulty I would make a limited amount of them available, of course.

I'll finish it and let's see what happens. :peace

A W.I.P of something I've been working on:

I just need to add in the hair. After I finish it, I'm going to be making a HEAVY MOD on this guy, something that would scar his entire face and make him look like a puzzle :p .

Really digging this Johnny, love your work!

Re: Cheungkinmen's Workbench (From sculpting to painting) ~UPDATED POST #324 ~

Johnny- You know I'm in for Gambol. I'll even pre-pay for that one. Black Dynamite for the win!

haha, thanks, man. I guess I could mod the sculpt into Black Dynamite, we'll see. :wave

This is something I've been working on and off. I finally finished it :p . A 1/6 claypot meal asian style!:

I love this type of meal, so I had to make it in 1/6 XD. If you guys want to see the process (a very abbreviated process) please look here: https://cheungkinmen.blogspot.com/2011/11/16-scale-food-item.html

Ok, back to painting commissioned heads...

That looks cool! I bet you could probably sell a lot to doll collectors.

Re: Cheungkinmen's Workbench (From sculpting to painting) ~UPDATED POST #324 ~

I don't think I could, I mean, there are lots of miniature stuff around the net that are miles better than this :p . But thanks!

Can't speak for anyone else, but I know I'd definitely be interested in a Jimmy McNulty! Looking forward to seeing the final sculpt.

Hey Cheungkinmen,

Based partially on your inspiration, I finally gathered up enough courage to mod my Liam Neeson headplay sculpts with facial hair, a la Henri Ducard/Ra's al Ghul.

My first efforts weren't too bad, but looking at your pics, I was blown away by how much detail you were able to get in the facial hair. I used apoxie sculpt - I assume you used something similar?

I tried to create a "hairlike" texture, but found the sculpt to be difficult to detail, as the beard is already so small. I managed to make a few thin grooves in the sculpted beard/mustache using a needle, but I really like yours, where it seems more three-dimensional, with actual clumps of facial hair.

What techniques and tools did you use to arrive at the final product? This is honestly the first time I'm actually modifying a sculpt, so I'm a true beginner and would appreciate any advice you could offer.

Thanks!

Hey bud, thanks for the compliments. I think there are better mods of this sculpt out there, Elvis' for example, mine was clumsily done, but I'm flattered that you are looking at mine.

So, after I made the shape I want it to look, I went about it using a pin, something like this:

alfiler11.jpg

I actually don't know if it's smaller and finer than a needle, but that's what I used. I used Apoxie sculpt yes, so the trick is to let the apoxie to cure a bit more, until it is not as soft as you first started kneading. Maybe 30 min or 40 min after you finished mixing it, or maybe less, but it has to be a bit hard, in this state it takes on detail like a champion. This is actually my second attempt but on a different sculpt :

Whistler.jpg

A Rainman Dude sculpt modified to be the Whistler from Blade. Each "indentation" was carefully done, it took me quite a lot of time but it pays to be thorough. You should start from the top of the beard, working down to the bottom using the needle you got or a pin, or something sharper like an exacto knife or hobby knife.

As for the "clumps" (which I'm ashamed to have done that, they look awful IMO), they are little pieces of still fresh apoxie clay rolled into little strands, then added to the beard AFTER I have done all the detailing, then you carefully using the same pin/needle start mixing it with the beard and blending it in somehow.

So, hope I helped, :p

Re: Cheungkinmen's Workbench (From sculpting to painting) ~UPDATED POST #324 ~

Is that Feng Ra's? Looks awesome here!

Thanks Seb :1-1:.

And no, I believe it's one of those sculpts "ironcrosshunter" from ebay is selling. I think it's a Sideshow Quai Gon Jin mod. It does look like Feng's somehow. I kind of like it, but the sculpt has LOTS of air bubbles that needed filling and the mod was very rough :S .

Re: Cheungkinmen's Workbench (From sculpting to painting) ~UPDATED POST #357 ~

Yeah like usual with ironcrosshunter, they sell bad casting at high prices.
