Hi, I can't wait to see this piece (I think I was a Dr fan before I was a Star Wars fan & thats a longtime now). How long does it take for you to sculpt an average 1/6 head. I'm just getting into this and just what amount you professionals allow for any one sculpt.

Hey man! Yeah, waiting sucks, man. Believe me, I know!
Just to take a step out from behind the curtain here, since this is such a big project for Chris and I, it's not gonna be just a regular unveiling. Actually, VikkiTX is a huge part of it too (cause she actually commissioned the Sarah sculpt all by herself to get it moving! Yea Vikki!!!).

As far as I am aware, because we haven't spoken in a week or so (Chris has been sequestered away) both heads should be done at this point and what we are waiting on now is peripherals for the figures to get to him so he can take pics. Whether that means for them to be painted up and sent back or if we're just waiting on part of their finished costumes to arrive to Chris for them to be photographed in, I dunno. Buts that's where it's at, so being ready "anytime now" really means "when all the stuff gets here" to be photographed! I just know it's "soon".:naughty

Let's make that "nearly done". Been a crap week with ice storms, power outages and nasty flu.... but the show must go on. Waiting for a final piece of the puzzle to help tie everything together.

in the mean time, if you want to see the development of a head from start to finish take a look over in the Hugh Laurie thread.

I usually never show the early stages of a sculpt, but some folks have been requesting to see these stages, so this is a one time thing!!

Anyway, take a look....

Have we seen anything cool yet?

I see cool things all the time! :D Not much longer..... really! But remember..... I REALLY care about these and I want them to be the best you can get anywhere for any price. So forgive me if I obsess a bit. Hopefully it will be worth the wait. :naughty

Plus, my cough syrup is.... making...........me ...................move..................slow............................:D

Welcome fellow Who fan!

The answer to your question...... impossible to say! :D Every head is different. Sometimes it flows perfectly and takes just a couple days and sometimes it takes weeks to get it right. It helps to alternate projects so they stay fresh. I may work a couple hours on one head, then a couple on another, etc. so I don't really even keep an exact tally of how many hours go into any given head. It's just "done when it's done".

Obviously, I would like to sculpt every head in the shortest time possible, but I would rather spend whatever time it takes for it to be right. Quality is my primary concern. Some sculptors rush things to get them done quickly to maximize profits, but I just can't bring myself to do that. When you force something it suffers.

Sorry I can't give a straightforward answer!

That's good to hear and I for one would rather wait a little longer if it means the end result is everything you intend it to be. Hope you're feeling better soon!

Bump for an update - ?
Definitely looking forward to the finished sculpt!

I've sewn Sarah Jane Smith's "Hand of Fear" outfit in preparation. I've been holding off on posting any pictures, because I don't want to use some generic headsculpt when we're so close to seeing/getting Chris's Sarah Jane sculpt.

And yes, I've sewn a few extra copies of the outfit for trades, and maybe for a very limited number of sales.

"Eldrad must live!".....I love that episode so it'll be a perfect attire for SJ as far as I'm concerned.

Chris,
Is there any chance of a couple of WIP shots to whet our appetites?

Yes! There is a chance. :D Just waiting for some feedback from Vikki.

I think Sarah Jane turned out well so far as you'll see shortly. I did a lot of revision back and forth trying to capture the subtlety of the shape of her face. Always more difficult to sculpt a young smooth face. The smallest error can ruin the likeness.
