He's roughed and awaiting his turn. As you may have guessed by now, I'm setting things up in stages, sort of assembly line style. I make some roughs, line them up and proceed through them. The rough stage is critica to my technique. That's where most of the important decisions are made, size is established, measurements are made, likeness is developed. It's not fit to show at this stage, but it's really the most important to me.
Then comes the slow and laborious refinement into something that others would recognize as the subject.
