Re: Christopher Reeve Superman PF

I see on the latest promo, they worked from the original movie life cast. The facial sculpt on this should be perfect.

I'll forgive the pose if the costume, sculpt and paint work.

Re: Christopher Reeve Superman PF

In the beginning I wanted the comic Supes with Reeve on his right and Cavill on his left, all in PF. While not bad, the cavill MoS PF left me wanting more. The Reeve Supes is just bad IMO. Awkward pose with a mediocre sculpt makes me happy to keep my HT versions of these two and back up the comic PF. Surely SS knows the popularity of Reeve, seems awkward they let this out as it looks far from done (based on pics I've seen).

Re: Christopher Reeve Superman PF

Cavil is the dour one, not Reeve. This Superman should be "A Friend".

Re: Christopher Reeve Superman PF

i waited for this to display it with supes comic PF and MOS PF.. I'm still hopeful to see some greatness on this one on the full reveal. fingers crossed!

Urban Dictionary: fist pump

A classic guido move, newly popularized by MTV's show, The Jersey Shore. Typically involves a juiced up, overtanned, pit-stained arm pumping rapidly and enthusiastically in response to a variety of stimuli, including but not limited to: slammin' beats, hot sl*ts and other fist pumpers.Recently made famous by sideshow in there superman premium format statue designs. <--i just added that last part i couldnt help myself.

I'm sorry, but the fist pump was around long before the Jersey Shore

Re: Christopher Reeve Superman PF

Although I am reserving final judgement until the final reveal, if the PF ends up looking like the latest sneak picture, I am going to have to pass on this one because everything looks somewhat off to me; even the belt looks like it was made for a cheap action figure. I think I will wait for the SDCC pictures and videos to see if it looks much better in person. Then again, we've all seen cases where statues have been dramatically improved from the sneak to the final reveal so hopefully this one will be worth the wait...

The sneak peek video still gives me hope: https://www.sideshowtoy.com/sculpting-christopher-reeve-as-superman/

Re: Christopher Reeve Superman PF

@Xaerius, I think the problem with this statue is the sculpt, the bone structure is a bit off Chris Reeve is there but I could wait another year until this statue is done the right way. About the belt if you see the movie right you'll see that the belt and his suit are screen accurate, and if you compare this with the Cinemaquette and Hot Toys this is the one that we all have been waiting for!

Still what bugs me here is that Chris Reeve has being known (in the sculpting world) as a very difficult face to sculpt, I would have done this with the people of Gentle Giant and scanned the head that SS had in the sculptor desk, here is the proof:

With all respect, please talk for yourself cause this is not the statue I have been waiting for! The pose looks so weird and the likeness is far away from legendary Chris Reeve's. In fact I don't know which one is more disaster, Cinemaquette or SS but it is clear that Cinemaquette's pose looks much perfect for now. How ironic that I say a positive thing about Cinemaquette:))

Re: Christopher Reeve Superman PF

It's obvious that the sculptor, Matt,is passionate about Reeves and I too will, like a few people on this forum will, reserve the final verdict for the final product. In the end I want-no wait-I need a Reeve Superman PF in my collection, so if an almost perfect PF of Reeve is available and this is my only chance to get one without paying 2k for it so be it (yes I'm talking about that cinamaquette that had the real hair) that, too, was far from perfect.
So my message to Matt is: please do your best on this one and then do better than that, discuss it with Arnie Kim if you have to for a second opinion. All in all, this bigger than real life person and the character he played deserve it. You can do this one Matt! It's time to put all your passion and admiration for Christopher Reeve as Superman from your childhood pockets to the collector's hand around the world. Looking forward to this one period!

Cinemaquettes look like utter **** I dunno why anyone would buy those.

Yeah. It might be the fact this looks like Voldemort's first appearance, but with hair.

LOL!!!!

I agree the Cinemaquettes suck! Having said that this PF is just as bad if not worse then the Cinemaquette. Cinemaquette Kicks the PF as far as pose goes.

Time for my Pre Pre Order rant....

The Preview video showed us a poorly done pose and body sculpt... But everyone said to wait for the final reveal. Now the official preview photo is us and people say we have to wait for the final pre order reveal. I have a feeling that after the pre order reveal comes out people will be saying "wait for the final product" and then "wait for in hand pics"

So far from what has been shown to us looks like crap IMO... It's awful. The pose is laugh worthy and the face sculpt is far from great. I am willing to accept that the photo might not be the best as far as the face sculpt goes... But it does not look like there is any saving that pose and body sculpt. This pose and sculpt looks to be in the same league as the Rambo PF.

I was hoping to get a great Reeve's Superman PF one day... Looks like I will still be waiting. The only reason this thing will sell is because of the Iconic character and the actor who played him.... Collectors feel they have to have a Chris Reeves PF in their collection no matter how it looks.

No offense to those who truly find something in there to love... I am happy for you. I really don't see what you like and or Love about this piece other then it's a C.R Superman but we all see things differently.

Sure the Pre Order pic might be better... I doubt it though. the preview vid and now this just show that SSC stumble and fumbled the ball on this IMO...

If the Pre Orders shots are better then someone should be fired at SSC in their marketing dept for putting such an awful preview up... Or perhaps they know it's pretty bad and they want to really lower expectations so that the preview shots don't look so bad. I don't know... But that first preview shot is just awful... AWFUL!

Re: Christopher Reeve Superman PF

IMO, the only thing that can save this is a smiling Reeve COH portrait...even then, that awkward back arch/fist pump is still going to stick out.

A smiling Reeve head sculpt will not work with this pose... Other then he will looked relieved from passing his Super Gas.

Politically correct response about the pose from the sculptor

the sculptors at sideshow do not determine the final pose, or composition of the statue. we simply fulfill the intent of the design department, and the will of the creative director. regardless, i feel like while this may not be a screen cap of Christopher REEVE (not reeves), i feel its a fantastic representation of a moment in time, that could have taken place as the dam was crumbling around him. perhaps he was pausing to contemplate his next actions. i hope you can all enjoy it as much as i have in making it. and to all the others, you simply do not have to make the purchase. no harm no foul.

I really don't have a boat in this race Jaws, because I'm not a Reeve Superman fan, but, You've ranted like this before you know. I recall a rant about the Batman PF not that long ago that went on for pages. Perhaps you have a point, or perhaps, much like other statues, this one just needs to be lit correctly. I'd reserve some of those harsh critiques until you see it at Comic Con, which more than like it'll be on display at.
