Re: Christopher Reeve Superman PF

I really don't have a boat in this race Jaws, because I'm not a Reeve Superman fan, but, You've ranted like this before you know. I recall a rant about the Batman PF not that long ago that went on for pages. Perhaps you have a point, or perhaps, much like other statues, this one just needs to be lit correctly. I'd reserve some of those harsh critiques until you see it at Comic Con, which more than like it'll be on display at.

That is true.... But those issues I had with the Batman PF I still have... It's far from perfect from every angle. To my eyes You have to have it posed a certain way or else his neck looks too long or his stance is too feminine (something friends who have come over and even said). I still wanted to order it because the good outweighed the bad. I still feel the same way. You don't see me returning to the thread singing it's praises like I did with the Droids, TOD Indy, Hulk sculpts, etc... etc... I like it a lot... I still don't LOVE it like I do other pieces in my collection.

This Superman PF looks like nothing but bad.

But it's true that it could look better at SDCC... Having said that I don't recall a piece that looked this bad (to my eyes) turning out to look really good at SDCC.

I am willing to believe the face sculpt will be better. But there is no saving that pose.

Re: Christopher Reeve Superman PF

I guess they were locked into the pose by the 'creative director' then? The MoS figure suits an action pose but not Reeve imo.

Re: Christopher Reeve Superman PF

I also think it's more then just a bad preview pic

With the Batman PF, I had some of the worries you had but now that I have him, he's incredible. I'll admit that the costume around the underarms isn't perfect but it can be fixed if I so choose. The pose to me is amazing, I don't find any of the issues you have.

With the Reeve PF, if I'm going strictly by the picture my main concern is that the head is out of proportion with the Body, too large, The pose while a bit awkward in the picture, I can see arch in his back may be a little too extreme, which is probably what is throwing everyone off. If he weren't leaning back so far, he'd probably look much better. So no, I don't think the pose is quite as bad as every makes it out to be, but perhaps a slight tweek would go a long way.

And lastly everyone saying that at this price point the likeness should be like that other head sculpt. Guys, $400 for a statue at this size even in runs this large gets you a certain level of craftsmanship. You want perfect? Prepare to shell out thousands, not hundreds, thousands. Artists who do limited runs and hand paint each statue to perfection aren't cheap. I'm not saying that these are cheap to the average person but if you want something exact, be prepared to shell out a used cars worth of dough to get it.

There are angles that I love the Batman PF at and find him to be darn near perfect. He is just not what I call a 360 statue. Pieces like the Droids, Hulk Maquette, Conan movie PF, Spider-man Comiquette etc... look great from every point of view... Batman does not (to me). But it's still very nice and overall a winner.

As far as Superman - It could be the arch of the back is just too drastic... It does not look right. I agree about the head being too big or something... Because the Body looks too small/thin... I posted about this way earlier in this thread.. While Reeve was not Huge in this role he was a tad bigger and filled out the suit just fine.. Granted he looked different at different points in the film but he looked best when he was a bit heavier. Due to the size of his head or the sculpt of the body he looks more like his audition tapes in this PF.

Exactly right.

True about limited runs, but Blitzway's excellent 1:3 Bruce Lee by Arnie Kim is below $600. Should they ever acquire the license and release a 1:4 Reeve Supes with his head sculpt and a recognizable pose, I don't think anyone would even consider getting this PF.

This image is much better than the recently released pic. There is far more texture in his face/skin tone than the bronzed face lift pic on SS's site, plus the bone structure looks broader. It's fair that we can't expect Arnie Kim quality on a $400 statue but if it looks like this pic with that suit bang on, well....I'll live with the pose.

BTW where did the sculptor's response come from?

Re: Christopher Reeve Superman PF

This statue looks awkward from every angle. I wouldn't pay $200 for it. Sideshow needs to toss it and start from scratch.

Re: Christopher Reeve Superman PF

Its on the Sideshow blog.

Thats cool, everyone keep judging the fig off one pic.

I know they're not going to toss it, I'm just saying they should. I wanted to see a great Reeves PF just as much as the next man, but this one isn't looking very promising. They need to make some serious adjustments.

Reeve. Not Reeves.

I have a 300.00 PF Conan, Terminator, TOD Indiana Jones and ROTLA Indy that looks much better then what they are offering here.

But other photos have looked better. So I am going to guess that the preview shot is just an awful shot... No excuses for the pose or body so far but we will see.

Re: Christopher Reeve Superman PF

I also think the fact that Reeve isn't a roided out Superman and those tights do no men any favors, may not help the pose any. I think it will look much better in hand as do 99% of the statues I receive.

Re: Christopher Reeve Superman PF

It does look bad, I was passing anyway. Already getting Comic PF of Superman.

Sometimes a piece sucks in the preview pics, it still sucks in the proto pre order pics, and then it still sucks when you get it in hand. I have a bad feeling that this Superman may follow in this piece's footsteps.

I hope for all the Superman / Reeve fans that I am wrong.
