Re: Christopher Reeve Superman the Movie Premium Format Figure -part 2

Bruce I hope it's just the lighting causing that paleness dude, but man, I don't know. Like Irvy said, there's PLENTY of time to tweak this guy. Just add some healthier skin color, and he'll be good.

It seems that Sideshow have answered our prayers and changed the EXclusive. The green crystal is now removed and replacing it is a....guitar :rock

Dunno man....the guitar's too big. Or it's just me :thud:

Anyways.... It's hard to tell how good the sculpt is from some of these photos... SSC needs better pics... Personally I think the sculpt looks more scary and old in this shot. Perhaps even Zombie like.... Could be the paint??

I agree the sculpt has the resemblance, but something's off. Like he's old or dying or something. Haven't seen anyone beat the Hot Toys interpretation of Christopher Reeve yet. And that's an action figure at a much smaller scale.
Yup. That paint app/lighting makes him look aged and the pose looks out of place for a CR superman. The tailoring is good though #IMO

SSC should hire this dude.

Much loss of pride in doing that.

I think they will twesk it before release, plenty of delays with this one is fine with me if he turns out great in hand.
If it turns out good in hand, which I'm hoping it will, the same naysayers* will once again flock in hordes and continue ranting about how they weren't able to snag one beforehand.

The pic of him with the guitar is ****ing epic!! I will strap on Gene Simmons mini Axe Guitar and display him like that!!:hi5:

Well, as I suspected - the full reveal hasn't changed my mind at all. So many things are off with this.

The costume is ABSOLUTELY SUPERB though and it's such a damn shame that everything else is below standard compared to the costume.

By the way - it IS possible to dress a figure with the folded arms pose. Observe:

Re: Christopher Reeve Superman the Movie Premium Format Figure -part 2

I think part of the problem is that the sculptor used the life mask casting of Reeve for his reference. Bad idea. As any FX artist will tell you, they never use the lifemask as direct reference due to the way the materials applied to the face during casting distort the skin due to the weight being applied. Life masks should only be used as a starting point and then the artist adjusts the sculpt to "remove" the effects of sagging seen on the life mask. It looks like the SS sculptor just sculpted a small version of the life mask "as is" and this is the cause of the problems that a lot of people are seeing with the likeness. That's my opinion anyway. I've got one of those lifemasks that he was using for reference and even though it's a direct casting from Reeve's face, it doesn't "look" exactly like him for all the reasons I've mentioned above.

The head sculpt looks awful. It's elongated and old looking, like the skin is stretched too tight and he is stuck in a grimace.

Re: Christopher Reeve Superman the Movie Premium Format Figure -part 2

Not a bad piece. But not really a "must have" due to many of the reasons already said by others, IMO. Pass for me.

However other shots it does look better. For the sake of those who are getting it I hope it turns out better then the photo above.

I'll be honest JAWS I think the sculpt is there... I just think it has been covered up by a subpar paint job....

This looks pretty dead on

Re: Christopher Reeve Superman the Movie Premium Format Figure -part 2

Hmmm.. Is it really the sculpt or paint? This only needs a small amount of fix to get the face right.. I hope.

That is my guess also. Hope they improve the paint or that it's just the lighting in the photo.

Re: Christopher Reeve Superman the Movie Premium Format Figure -part 2

Here is a much better photo of the head sculpt.

I gotta belive it is the way the photo was taken. Because I think it looks good in the photo I just posted above.

You can see how off it looks in this photo comparison... Bad photo for sure.. I don't think it is as much the sculpt.

Did you notice that BBTS is offering him at the same price as sideshow? .... so pretty much in this case sideshow is the best option to get him... at least for me. Not even for the EX but for the rewards points.

Im still on the fence on this one... probably I will WL him later down the line and Im a big C Reeve fan.

What's with the Superstain™ ???

superstain_zps716b2132.jpg~original

Possibly suffering from saggy armpit syndrome and whoever attempted to fix it for the proto shots used a glue that stained?

This is gonna be Batman all over again.
