Re: Christopher Reeve Superman the Movie Premium Format Figure -part 2

That's what I mean about the negative knee-jerk reactions of some people about this piece. I personally don't think it's as bad as the naysayers would have you believe. The more I see it the happier I am that I preordered it. I think everyone (whether they are a Christopher Reeve fan or not) has an image of the ideal CR Superman PF in their head. For a lot of people--I'm guessing 99%--the pose chosen and dam base were not what they had in mind and I'm one of them. However, it's likely going to be the only CR PF we see and, though it's not what I expected, I need it in my collection. Overall it is an impressive PF and I think it's going to blow people away in person.

I agree about people having an image in their mind. Reeve is so iconic and IS Superman to many of us. I can accept the pose even though I'm not a huge fan of it, but I'm having issues with the sculpt as it's not quite there. Can I see Reeve? Absolutely. But I feel SS could have done better and refined the sculpt before putting him up for PO.

Oh don't get me wrong... I still don't like it (the pose, verdict is still out about the sculpt until better pics). But since I know that it wont ever change... I have excepted it and thus it has grown on me. For me personally I think it's just an awful choice. Dam or not, I just don't think the pose looks natural. It does from the one right/front side (his right) angle but not from any others. I have also looked at this every day since it was announced. So in some ways when I am not looking at it I make in worse in my head so when I come back to it I think "It's not as bad as I thought" but I still don't like it enough to PO.

I was really hoping that I would love this piece and I would sell my Comic version down the road since CR is the Superman that made me a fan. But I am so glad I got the Comic version now. That is one thing I will say about this. It has made me LOVE the choices they made with the comic version (worm eyes not included). But who knows, perhaps at SDCC or when people start to receive this in hand all of us naysayers will be blown away. So perhaps I order it down the road. If the ES is small and I miss out then Oh well I will live. If it turns out really great I won't have a problem paying a higher price down the road.

Personally I am slightly let down by the pose they have chosen but it's not the end of the world. Had SSC messed up the pose on an Indiana Jones sculpt (and there would only be one) or the Conan the Barbarian movie sculpt, then you would have seen true anger and hatred spew from my mouth. So I can understand why some might be really upset if people felt this way about CR superman like I do Indy and Conan. I think I said this before. Had they chosen the Rage of the Undying Conan pose for the Arnold as Conan pose I would have been flabbergasted and bitter as it would have made no sense and not represented Arnold as Conan in any part of that film or publicity shots.

It was IMO a strange decision by SSC to choose the pose and to make the dam all tilted. But perhaps in hand it will all come together and kick all sorts of ***.

I'm glad I'm getting the comic version as well and have never had a problem with the EX eyes. The comic PF is IMO a much better example of Superman--good pose (even if they went with the overused bent knee), great sculpt, and awesome base. That said, I like them both so I'm getting both. The way Sideshow is producing high ES for everything lately I don't think you'll have to worry about not getting it for a decent price if you change your mind later.

Looking forward to photos of these two together :)

The biggest reason for the reaction this thing is receiving is that it isn't what people had there mind set for so long (years for some) that it was going to look like. Once in hand or comic con pics show up I'm sure some people will change their mind of the piece as maybe it will look better than SS's website photos. But others just won't budge simply because they hate the base and the pose. I never really planned on getting the Reeve PF anyways, but I did tell myself that if it turned out really amazingly I was going to consider it. But I was shocked when it turned looking almost the complete opposite of the way I thought it would. I know Sideshow will never change the piece, and I'm not sure how well it is selling, but I don't think I've ever seen this much of a negative reaction on any piece. I think those who aren't going to purchase the piece due to the base or pose are just going to wait and see if another company pics up the rights to do a quarter scale statue. Or maybe wait and see if SS does a Superman II statue.

Yeah so the paint job could use some work but the sculpt .... Damn that is awesome.

That sculpt is accurate.. So it seems they have problems with the paint app.. Oh my.. I might PO this one.

For me personally I did not have anything in mind with regards to this piece. I just wanted a nice CR piece. I just don't dig the pose. It could all change with videos and pics from fellow collectors but I don't know if it's just the "It's not what they had pictured in their head" argument. I really believe a lot of people just simply dislike the pose because it does look very awkward (to us non fans anyways )

I agree, the pose does seem very un-Reeve like, in my opinion. (If anyone loves this piece please understand I am not bashing you.) But I can almost guarantee that if anyone had any idea of what they thought this piece was going to look like, the base they decided to use never entered their mind. It just seems odd. But comic con and in hand pics will surely change the minds of some people who are on the fence.

Re: Christopher Reeve Superman the Movie Premium Format Figure -part 2

I am thinking that the black base is to make the statue appear to be floating . Not grounded. To assist in making the illusion that Superman is flying.

That's all good and well, but why make the black base resemble that of a chess piece thus looking so out of sync with the overall piece? :dunno Something like a continuation of the Dam and have more rubble/rocks for example would have been better

Re: Christopher Reeve Superman the Movie Premium Format Figure -part 2

For me the base helps create the dynamic floating feel.

yea I get that...but the same effect could have also been achieved had the black base linked in with the theme of the overall statue (in this case the damaged Dam) just not a fan of the black base design :( a plain black base would suffice but that chess shape is just off putting...take the black base used for Sideshows Keaton Bats PF...that would have looked better on this Reeve PF imo

Re: Christopher Reeve Superman the Movie Premium Format Figure -part 2

Hmm.. Is there a similar case wherein the preorder pics sucked but turned out great in-hand?

Kinda funny the way on SF when the actual sculptor shows face in the thread then everyone changes their opinion. It's like the second he walks into the room everyone gets their knees dirty...

Bunch of fanboys over there.

Re: Christopher Reeve Superman the Movie Premium Format Figure -part 2

I did not change my opinion. this statue remains an utter disappointment for me and many other collectors.

thankfully, I will get my 1/4 scale fix via a custom piece.

Yes, and I'm sure you let him know what's what, right?
