I started smoking when I was 8 years old. Actually started inhaling at about 10. I continued smoking until I was about 33. How many I smoked varied. Anything from about 1/2 pack to 2 packs a day depending on what I was doing at my maximum (partying required more cigarettes). When I got together with my wife, she was a serious cigarette hater. The more time I spent with her, the less I smoked until after about a year, I was down to a pack lasting me 4-6 weeks. When she got pregnant with my son she asked me to quit for him and threw the "You smoke so little now, why bother?" common sense at me. So in Jan of 1999, I made a New Year's resolution to quit. It is the only New Year's resolution that I have ever kept.

I have had about 5 or 6 cigarettes in the past 9 years. But I don't even count that.

For me, the key was finding something that I enjoyed doing more than smoking and that I could not do while I was smoking. And doing that all the time. Spending time with my wife was that thing.

Well guys it's hard to believe that its been three years since I started this thread. I started smoking again after I quit for very long time around October of 2008. I let life get the best of me and started up. Well here I am again. I am quitting and this time for good. I am using the method that kept me off cigs for well over a year. Chantix! I took the first pill today and my quit date is next Tuesday. So I will once again use this thread to document my progress and vent. What a pain in the ass. :lol

Good luck to you, Moonie! I wish you all the best!!

My father, his brother, his sister and our neighbor all did actupuncture and it worked for all of them. Just something to think about.
