I was an employee of The Source by Circuit City...Worst place ever to work....
Used to be owned by Radioshack, but big box stores killed everything.Don't get me wrong when bestbuy has a boxing day sale I am the first person to line up the night before, but for old lady's that don't know anything about electronics, Circuit city was all they had, try asking questions in a bestbuy and see if anybody helps, not likely. Circuit City would still be around if they treated employees better and start selling good quality stuff again

The Best Buys around here have always been helpful and at least pay attention to you. I've heard from several women, and me included, that if you walk into CC by yourself you're pretty much ignored unless you have a man with you. I guess they think woman can't afford a big tv or a computer.

I'd rather shop at best buy or nex. But I did score a Mortal Kombat vs DC Kollectors Edition for my PS3 for about $53 or so.

I went to CC only because it was around the corner from me and Best Buy was 20min away, so id check CC first... usually on the way to BB. Pretty much hated CC though.
.. but I did buy my 58" Plasma Samsung there as an open box buy for about $1k off retail ...

Circuit City became the largest retailer to fall victim to the expanding financial crisis Friday, announcing it will shut down its remaining 567 U.S. stores at the cost of 34,000 more jobs after failing to sell the business.

I didn't shop there much, but I hate hearing another 34,000 will be jobless. :(

I have window shopped there a few times but it always seemed like everything was overpriced...

Didn't Circuit City fire p!tu? :lol

Oh wow. I just bought a tv from them less than a year ago. Makes me wonder whos next.

It is a shame so many will be losing their jobs, but I don't see this as a sign of the times persay. I think they were doomed to this fate at some point anyway, the financial state just escalated the situation. I've often found them to be overpriced on goods and I've heard negative feedback about the customer care, they just seemed to be a business that wasn't running right to survive amongst the Best Buy and others like it.

You're right that they were doomed due to high prices, but you're wrong if you don't see this as a sign of the times. This is the tip of the iceberg if something doesn't stimulate the economy. And no, another 350 billion to the ass-holes in the banking industry sure isn't going to do it.

All of Arizona's CC's closed a few weeks ago. And at first the liquidation sale was a total scam. I wanted to get some audio/video cables, and I remeber asking how much the 40% off was for this optical cable; circuit city had removed the original price tags so you had no idea 40% off of what. Anyway, clerk told me something like $45 after the discount. I stopped him right there. I said, "you mean to tell me this was an $80-$90 cable originally?" Now I realize Monster cables are seriously overpriced, but $90 for a 1 meter optical cable was ridiculous. Needless to say, I didn't buy it.

But I kept checking the stores every few days. Once the discounts got to 70% off, I stocked up on cables. And the last weekend they were open, everything went 80-90% off. I seriously stocked up then. DVDRW, cables, computer memory, flash memory, xbox games/cheat books, few CD's. I got a Harmony remote for $40. The liquidation sale is worth it if you can be patient and diligent about knowing when to go and getting there early.

I still liked Circuit City over BB. At least the staff at CC seemed to know most of their stuff rather than trying to push worthless warranties and magazine subscriptions down my throat.

I'm surprised Circuit City lasted as long as they did. Their stores were crap, their "deals" were virtually non-existent, and their selection was usually pretty terrible as far as movies (but I could find some harder to find CD's there back in the day).

F Circuit City. I hope Fry's takes this opportunity to expand.

I feel bad for the employee's who will lose their job. But, as far as the store goes, I won't miss it.

Of course Best Buy will probably charge more now for their merchandise, with one less competitor too worry about.

I'll stick with Amazon.

True dat. There are a lot of businesses going under. The plaza where one of the CC's closed is a bare shell of the shopping plaza it used to be. CC closed, Mervyn's closed, Best Buy consolidated stores and closed the one at this particular location. If it weren't for Home Depot and Target, there'd be nothing there except coffee shops and a McDonalds.

I also noticed the Costco near me closed. Those are HUGE stores and that space can't readily be filled by just any store.

Thats true. My local CC's parking lot has been a wasteland long before the current financial crisis.

Yeah, but Tigerdirect doesn't have as good selection, and they're website is murder to navigate through. They're only advantage is that they've got lots of refurbished computers if you're looking for a deal, but sometimes their parts are more expensive than Newegg.

A few weeks ago I was going to buy a TV from Circuit City until I saw the same exact one on Amazon for a $150.00 less.

except for the employees that are jobless i'm happy circuit city is gone. they never had any good sales other than on Black Friday, their CS sucked, their prices ALWAYS sucked, and most of their employees were borderline retarded.
~~does anyone remember when they used to advertise their price match guarantee???? notice how that was stopped after best buy came into the picture??? they were just too greedy to drop their pricepoint to compete.

It's weird to hear all these bad stories about CC. It is the only electronics store I shopped at. The one by me had really friendly and knowledgable employees. Best Buy on the other hand was the exact opposite. I bought my first HD tv from CC and at a great price ($200 cheaper than anyone else). I'm sorry to see them go because competition is always good for the consumer.
