True dat. There are a lot of businesses going under. The plaza where one of the CC's closed is a bare shell of the shopping plaza it used to be. CC closed, Mervyn's closed, Best Buy consolidated stores and closed the one at this particular location. If it weren't for Home Depot and Target, there'd be nothing there except coffee shops and a McDonalds.

I also noticed the Costco near me closed. Those are HUGE stores and that space can't readily be filled by just any store.

sucks to hear another bites the dust, but seriously COSTCO really:confused:
never thought i'd see that happen.

i think this electronic retail industy is going to go more and more to online retailers that never see the product and all ship out of one or two central warehouses, imo.

Sad for people losing their jobs, but CC has always been a shatty place to buy. This has been in the works for a while now. Their cash registers and credit card machines are like 8 years old, and still in the stores :lol.

Stores closing doesn't annoy me as much as new building construction (when closed stores stay vacant).

Landlords need to offer better incentives to have companies move in or tear down existing buildings. Instead these landlords just keep building new buildings on previously open space......argh!

Even in this economy near me there is tons of retail and office building going on and they just sit vacant. I know of a few buildings near me that have never had tenants in like 2 years since completion but across the street, up comes another one!

well competition is always best because it keeps prices in check. look at the blu ray prices...when HD DVD was still alive they were practically giving away blu rays, now they are charging an arm and a leg for them.

It's weird to hear all these bad stories about CC. It is the only electronics store I shopped at. The one by me had really friendly and knowledgable employees. Best Buy on the other hand was the exact opposite. I bought my first HD tv from CC and at a great price ($200 cheaper than anyone else). I'm sorry to see them go because competition is always good for the consumer.

me too. I always chose CC over BB. I thought prices were very comparable to BB, and I certainly liked/valued the staff more then the high school kids working at BB. I'm sad to see CC go.

I never shopped much at Circuit City myself, but it's still a shame to see such a big company go under, and all those poor people without jobs now.

That drives e crazy too, but it's my understanding that in alot of cases, it's cheaper to build than to change over an existing building.

I know of McDs and Taco Bells that have closed up and rebuilt one to two blocks down the street.

This is why I haven't taken the leap yet. I probably won't until Lord of the Rings comes out on Blu-ray.

the CC that was down the road from me closed about a year ago and moved about 10 miles down the road to another city and then Best Buy popped up next to them and then an HH Greg(don't understand how this store is in business). the huge CC building down the road is still empty.

I shopped CC when they were down the road and it was only them but always went to BB when they were next to each other.

I actually liked the CC better than the BB's in my area. I bought my samsung LCD tv from them not to long ago. BB had it for $2399.99 and I got it at Circuit for $1599.99. :chew

Also less competition for BB means that they will probably not lower their prices as much. So even if you don't like CC and prefer BB this may effect you as a consumer. No one wins when this stuff happens. :monkey2

BB price matches, so you could have got the TV at BB for the same price.

Yeah but they all price match. Plus BB's sales staff are WAY more pushy. Hell by the time you have left the store you have been offered 5 things that you don't want. By that I mean warranties, netflix, reward zone, entertainment weekly, and accessories that you already have or don't need. :lol

Jedi mind tricks only work on the weak of mind...:lightsabe

I feel the exact same way about Kay-bees. They were overpriced and they made their money by ripping off parents.

How can you really feel bad about them going under?

as a Manager there and out of a job in 2 and half weeks...its wasnt so much overpriced stuff that put them out of business...it was not carrying toys that people wanted and carrying toys that were advertised on Tv....they change their business model to carrying liquidated junk toys and sales were continually on the decline...the business never tried staying current with toys or looking into this huge toy market that it is, and perhaps being the kb toy and hobby shop they were suppose to be...I asked my boss why doesnt Kb hook up with Sideshow and carry their figures...I even tried to suggest getting with Mattel and be the Exclusive carrier of the new He-man MOTU Classics line...But nooo! it wasnt profitable enough I guess....As I said many times, I can take a crap on the floor and try to sell it, but it doesnt mean it will sell....Anyways, the end of the mall toy stores...who's next? Toys Arnt Us? :)

At KayBees their new stuff was too high and very little and their marked down stuff was too old. It was like they were becoming the Big Lots of toys stores.

I hope you find something soon, Teemu.

Not to mention KB couldn't keep up with other retailers when it came to video games. Even though they aren't that profitable.

Sorry you are losing your job Teemu.

KBs made a lot of bad choices. Heck, they completely got out of the video game business a few years ago and then jumped right back in without changing their gameplan. I don't know who ran that company but they had been making OBVIOUSLY bad choices for a long time.

the KB Toys in the mall by me has closed down and reopened I believe 3 or 4 times.
It became obvious the closings were just a stunt to run "Store Closing" sales .... was almost funny when theyd announce they were closing again ...
