Re: Classic Comedians Thread - Laurel and Hardy, Marx Brothers, Jack Benny & others..

Too funny (regarding your comments about your wife)! I know the feeling...but really, at this point, I think they know us, and we're harmless with our 1/6 figures...

Now, life size, which I presume the posted figures you found are, would be a different story. I'm not gonna try that one! Besides, I actually like your figures better. At first, I thought that Lou was pretty cool, but not his face I like as much - it is his his outfit. And the Monsters are ok but nothing special...

Glad to hear you are making your move cross country...best of luck! I can't wait to see you continue on your Bud and Lou project!

Thanks for your wish of luck for our move!

You are right about about the life size Lou, I think the eyebrows are a bit too thick and are throwing off the likeness. I think the sculpt of the face is pretty accurate. The jacket is off as well, the jackets they wore in the film were not button down they were zippered with a flap which concealed the zipper. Also, the hat he is wearing is much too small and not as floppy as the hats in the movie.

I guess even at that scale mistakes can be made.

The recent posting of Bud Abbott and Lou Costello figures up on ebay made me want to revisit my figures for a repainting...the ebay figures were nicely done...

Great job on the repaint of Bud and Lou, They look so much better than your original paint job, especially Bud.

I am sitting in an internet cafe in Sedona at this moment. The weather is just great. I have no cable phone or internet ay the moment and we are sleeping on a blow up bed waiting for our furniture to arrive. It has been a trial so far with the rent a car, then a loner and we are waiting for our new car to arrive in about three weeks.

I'll keep in touch in the near future. Hope all is well with you!

Jim

Re: Classic Comedians Thread - Laurel and Hardy, Marx Brothers, Jack Benny & others..

Yep, looks just like Uncle Miltie, but he should be dressed in drag. Maybe like Carmen Miranda.

Re: Classic Comedians Thread - Laurel and Hardy, Marx Brothers, Jack Benny & others..

And speaking of Uncle Miltie and drag...

Here is one of strangest things to air on TV when I was younger.

Berle, dressed as a clown, the entire Brady Bunch and closet case Robert Reed dressed as Carmen Miranda. This stuff just went over our heads as kids.

Wow, you're right! How did you ever think of this video? It is really strange after all we now know about Robert Reed. I wonder if Greg was hitting on Marsha backstage?!

Good find!

Hey Jim,

I thought you'd like to see a photo of the Kumik Chaplin figure with the new hat that I received (on the left) along with a comparison picture of a Spenser derby (on the right). Although the new hat is a better than the first one they gave us, that's not saying much. I like the Spenser derby on him much better. I'm just curious on your thoughts...did you get yours?

Re: Classic Comedians Thread - Laurel and Hardy, Marx Brothers, Jack Benny & others..

A couple of years ago, I came across an incredible thread on this forum that was started by my friend, Jungle Jom, based upon his wish to see "Abbott and Costello figures meet Frankenstein" done in 1/6 scale. In painstaking detail, he wrote about, and uploaded pictures on what he was dong and how it could be done. Although he himself has not finished his quest (the fun is in the journey anyway, and not the destination), over time, I continued to reference back on occasion to his thread which I have also included here:

https://sideshowcollectors.com/forums/showthread.php?t=17499&highlight=Abbott

Note the date on his first post...

The pictures that will follow are based upon the inspiration and assistance gained from Jim and his thread. The dio could not have been done without him. And, I know that when he completes his, it not only will be much more screen accurate, but better overall as well...this is just my attempt at putting together a diorama of this great comedy team, Abbott and Costello.

Here they are, "Abbott and Costello Meet Frankenstein"...

Re: Classic Comedians Thread - Laurel and Hardy, Marx Brothers, Jack Benny & others..

All I have to say is...

Bravo Jerry! You have completed what I have set my sights on! I've gotta get back to it, and soon. As you know I've been very busy in my real life with the cross country move and all.

I hope to eventually hire someone to do the jackets for me and get one of the best painters here to paint the heads for me and I will be done. Right now I am working long hours on a TV show here in Arizona, so Bud and Lou will have to wait a bit more.

Here is one bit of inaccuracy not too many people will notice...

Bud and Lou wore different colored jackets in that scene. Bud's was a darker shade than Lou's.

Again, you did a really great job!

Never mind, I just looked again and you did get the jacket color right!

Re: Classic Comedians Thread - Laurel and Hardy, Marx Brothers, Jack Benny & others..

Oh, by the way did you make the props yourself?

If so you did a great job on the coffin!

Re: Classic Comedians Thread - Laurel and Hardy, Marx Brothers, Jack Benny & others..

Oh no, I haven't gotten my replacement derby for Chaplin yet. I guess with the move it may have bypassed me. I'll have to get in touch with Kumik when I get a chance.
