Impressive! :clap The car looks great too!

Re: Classic Comedians Thread - Laurel and Hardy, Marx Brothers, Jack Benny & others..

Thanks Joel...

It hasn't been easy finding a car (in an old vintage style) to fit them!

The car looks pretty good, Jerry. It's just a tad under sized. I think you should give it a coat of black paint if possible. I can see there isn't enough room to have them seated perfectly, but all in all the car works well enough and is a good find.

I'll have to keep it in mind if I can't find something better. Again... Stan and Ollie look outstanding. Many thanks to Spencer for making them a reality.

Re: Classic Comedians Thread - Laurel and Hardy, Marx Brothers, Jack Benny & others..

I really like the look of the whole set up! With a re-painted on the car I think that will make it look even better!

Re: Classic Comedians Thread - Laurel and Hardy, Marx Brothers, Jack Benny & others..

I agree...the car is almost to scale. It needs some minor adjustments (like readjustment of the steering wheel and a black paint job) to bring it closer to the pics. I will adjust the wheel but I'm not sure about the paint job. The yellow color is starting to grow on me...

If I adjust the wheel, Stan will fit nicely. It was worth the price too...you can get these pretty cheep on Ebay...

Very true! I really like it and think it looks great as is any how! It is a good scale!

All I have to say is...

I encourage you to "Paint it Black", I think it will make it a little less toy like. You could even put a photo in Photoshop to see if you will like it before you paint it.

I also think the idea of adjusting the steering wheel will make Stan a lot more comfortable.

I do have one question...

Can both Stan and Ollie fit in the front seat at the same time like the beginning of "Toad in the Hole"?

Hey Jim,

Good idea about Photoshop! There is a lot that can be done with this car in terms of detailing (to get it spot on). The wheel should be bent up to allow for stomach room; it would be nice to have two headlamps, etc. I may start to detail it, but my mind isn't into it right now. I wanted to pick it up cheap and see if they fit.

To answer your question directly regarding Stan and Ollie, the seats are wide enough for both of them to fit (although tight). What prevents them from doing that is the wheel and the floor board in front.

As mentioned, the space between the steering wheel and front seat is too narrow. If it is bent up toward the window, it will allow for more room. The wheel is on a solid piece of steel though, so that will not be easy. Doable, but not easy.

The floorboard (where Stan's toes should go), slants a bit inward at the bottom, just as it meets the floor. If sitting straight ahead, it will be a problem to fit both of their feet in because of that slant. A solution would be to create a small hole in the plastic near the floor to fit their toes (otherwise their feet would be pushed up and not look exactly right. Again, a modification that would not be easy, but doable.

We took a short trip recently and going to look in various antique shops, asking around, etc, I came to find out that unless you get old vintage toys from the 20's, 30's or 40's (that can cost anywhere from $150 to $500 and up), you will not find 1/6 scale sized autos from that era. I happened across this Remco, that actually came out in the 60's for $35...couldn't pass it up...

Since we moved to Arizona, we also have been going to a lot o Antique stores in this area and I am always scouring them for a suitable car while my better half is shopping for... for...

I don't know what she is shopping for; but she is always coming back with something.

Re: Classic Comedians Thread - Laurel and Hardy, Marx Brothers, Jack Benny & others..

Actually, in looking at it closer, there are screws that can be remove on each side (driver and passenger sides) of the floorboard. I don't know if that will completely remove that slant, but I suspect it will. It may be easier than we think...here is a pick...

I understand completely! We do the same...

"Fresh Fish! Caught in the ocean this morning!"

After taking out the screws, the floor board popped right out leaving more room. It is a tight squeeze but they fit! The steering column was attached to the floorboard as well so it will be easier to adjust the height and angle of wheel than I thought...

Hey! They fit in there pretty nicely, a little tight but they do fit. The space between them, and the wind shield, looks just about perfect. I thought they would end up closer to the glass, I'm surprised!

Re: Classic Comedians Thread - Laurel and Hardy, Marx Brothers, Jack Benny & others..

Oh, Yeah...

When you put the steering wheel back in make sure you put it on the other side. We all know they made their films in America not England.

Will do...I didn't realize the wheel was on the wrong side until I recieved it. I'm going to try and find a different shaft for the wheel and reattach it so that there is maximum space in the front seat.

Thanks for asking your front seat question! In looking into an answer, I was pleased to find it so easily adjusted. If the car were one more inch in length or width it would have been perfect. But that being said, it still works very well for Stan and Ollie, and it has some bells and whistles...it runs, and lights up. Too bad it doesn't have that old fashioned horn sound...that would be a stitch!

I actually surprised on the very few 1/6 vehicles.

Yeah, Joel, I know...it would be nice if they offered more cars in 1/6 scale. I recently found a 57 Chevy that would be nice for an Elvis figure, but that's about it. Everything else is military or Barbie...

Nice! Have you got a link Geronimo? I need to do a good 1/6 Elvis! I'd love a 550 to go with the growing collection of Dean's!

I don't have a link because I found it at an antique shop (they had it for about $40). I will look online to see if I can find it. If not, the antique shop is in Indiana. I can contact them and see if they can send some pics. Let me know if you are really interested...I'll see what I can find out for you...

I see, do not worry about it mate! It was just if it was an easy find on eBay say. In Indiana hey? They must have had a 550 right? ;)
