Re: Collection Database Website

Question for you guys. If you are adding a manufactured collectible, what makes more sense to you. Selecting the type of collectible first or the manufacture?

Like would you rather get prompted for what type of collectible you are adding first? Action figure, statue, poster, print...yadda yadda or would you rather get prompted for a manufacture name.

manufacturer

That is what I was originally thinking. If you are added a manufactured collectible so I would assume you know who makes it. It is setup this way but I want to make it a little more robust in the future but you would select from a list of manufactures, then from there each one of those manufactures is completely configurable with the type of collectibles that they make and you can add. It makes sense to be but that doesn't mean it makes sense to others.

I say manufacturer then the type of collectible.

Alright let me throw something else at you guys. Say down the line, I add movie posters. You can add movie posters just like you can add statues and the such now, then add them to your stash.

When thinking about a movie poster would you think about the manufacture first?

Clearly I will not find a scenario that will easily fit all types of things but I am trying to find middle ground.

In most cases you think of manufacture first but in some cases you might think of collectible type first. This is really one of the few, if not only, reason I am thinking about doing it the other way.

Re: Collection Database Website

That's a good question. The only movie poster I have is Serenity and I don't know the manufacturer cause I bought it off ebay...I think. :lol

Hehe yea.

I also do not want to list out every type of collectibles on the initial page for submitting one, maybe it is worth it to put them into categories?

I like the idea of categories. But since I am not privy to how the site works just yet, I dunno... :dunno

I have no idea who even makes movie posters....all I know is that I have a lot :monkey1

Hmmm...perhaps the collectible would be better. To be honest...I have no clue as to who made my Captain America and Thor movie posters! :lol

Categories would work I think. If you're eventually going to list movie posters, art prints, art books, etc. then categories would be best.

Re: Collection Database Website

What if it's a custom ?

Then there is no manufacturer.

What if you choose poster (or type) it grays out other options ?

It should be a natural progression.

Type
Maker (if applicable)
etc.

Customs and bashes are a whole other beast that I currently designing and layout out functionally. That will be another process completely but will function similarly.

I agree that there should be a natural progression. Something similar for each type but only the applicable fields for that type.

At a high level I am thinking, when making contributions there will be the following flow:

1) Select a category along the lines of Toys and Figures, Posters, Prints, Books, etc etc...each of these could then have a series of sub categories.
2) Depending on the category you might get prompted for a manufacture or not.
3) Add collectible detail
4) Review
4) Submit

This flow would be for manufacture collectibles only, no one offs or customs. That will be a different flow.

The manufacture being a key into what the collectible detail page might look at and the category being a key into if you see a manufacture page or something else that is similar.

I foresee me going back to this flow a few times to get it right and making sense to the majority.

Yo Ink,

When you uploaded the Wolverine Bust and Dr Doom, did you have problems uploading the images? I noticed there are no images attached.

Re: Collection Database Website

SS, when adding something to the Sideshow list, I don't see the Buffy line listed. Unless I'm blind. It wouldn't be any surprise if that's the case.
