Re: Collection Database Website

Requiring a UPC code is tedious and troublesome.

I don't have one for my pieces as I enter and it will not allow me to pass so I re-enter the product code.

This can lead to inaccurate and non-essential information in your files.

Re: Collection Database Website

I would do this to these fields so it can be apparent and uniform:

Weight (lbs) 24
Length (in.) 22.5
Width (in.) 10
Depth (in.) 10

Or something like that.

Re: Collection Database Website

Can we link to pictures also ? That may help.

This is something I plan on added as an enhancement at some point. I agree, if I can pull the picture in from some location that might be easier.

Yea I agree. I noticed for some manufactures it is easy to get a hold of, like Sideshow but others it is not so easy if you don't have the box in front of you.

Re: Collection Database Website

Entered Hammerhead and when I submitted it changes almost everything I put in.

No year or price taken either. Weird.

Re: Collection Database Website

I can add more directional text around this piece in both areas. When you are submitting a collectible you are adding the edition size and when you are adding to your stash you are adding an edition number. I can change the label for the stash so they are different and hopefully clear that up.

I think just changing the label would be good and clear up any confusion.

Ok this is my thought process on this one and I went back and forth for a while and I am looking to you guys to see if this makes sense. Note, I will definitely be adding more help information on this whole process. When selecting variant, that means there is a base collectible out there that that there is a variant of. I consider exclusives a variant of a regular/base collectible. So the first screen it presents you with a list of collectibles to search on, allowing you to select the one you want to make a variant of. Right now there has to be a base collectible added, to add a variant (this could get changed later). Once you select the base collectible you can then make some changes to enter in what makes this a variant. Right now that list of fields is pretty small and could get expanded on.

Let me know if that makes sense.

The idea was that most variants are pretty similar to the base except for some small changes, so I wanted to link it to a base collectible.
I view Exclusives as variants since they are essentially the same statue with an additional accessory or different paint application.

JJJ has brought up some good points! Great job, JJJ! :yess:

Legendary Scale bust needed in product type under Sideshow.

I think that LSBs ,and any other busts, would go under the Bust category.

The type of bust would go under the collectible name.

I agree that the UPC is kind of a hassle. I think the product code is sufficient.

Will there be any type of user photo gallery and personal collection links down the road?

Re: Collection Database Website

I was gonna add a couple of older Sideshow PF's to the mix but when I went to research SSC's site they are no longer there. :(

The statues I was going to add was Army of Darkness: Ash and Star Trek: Voyager Seven of Nine. Both the regular and exclusive editions.

Neither of these licenses are active at SSC. In a case where a collector wanted to add statues like these two perhaps an "Other" category could be created?

And now that I think about it what about the Universal Monsters line? Sadly SSC isn't producing them anymore but there are collectors who have them in their collections.

That is how I am viewing them currently and I think more help text and information will help drive that.

This is also my current thought process. You would select bust and then 1:2 scale (once it gets added for SSC :) ). Would I add that it is "Legendary Scale" under the name however? I am not sure yet. The easily solution might be making it a collectible type because that is how SSC defines it but I am not sure I agree with that.

Oh most definitely. I want the ability for the user to be able to upload their own photos and they can choose which displays when they view a collectible from their stash, either the default or there own.

Linking collections and view other peoples collections is high priority for the next round of enhancements. What is the point if we cannot share? :)

I think we just need to get these older licenses add to the list. Even if it is not an active license of sideshow I think we should still have it in the list so we can maintain both past and present lines and collectibles. I can make sure these licenses are out there. The only thing that will suck is tracking down specific information but I will loose up the requirements so we can get these cataloged and they can always be updated in the future as people track down information.

All great comments and suggestions!

Is there a way to get information from sideshow about past and current products. An excel spreadsheet would be awesome, if they would do that.

Honestly I had an idea to do a similar website back in 2008, I just never explored the idea. One of the Things I was thinking of trying was to get feeds of upcoming products from the companies so that they could be added to the database beforehand and users could find out some information about them.

I was also thinking of doing a paid membership, so that only members would be able to trade/sell to each other through the site. I was still trying to figure out what other benefits to give members to make a subscription worth it. Also I was going to be creating/linking articles for collectible news and events.

This is an idea I threw around as well, RSS feeds, screen scraping, web service or something to automatically input information. This would really depend on how willing companies are to supply that and if they think there is a benefit. If they do not openly supply a means to get that information I think it would require this site to take off and be successful enough to encourage them to supply that information. Until then I think user generated is the best approach but I do want to explore other possibilities like this in the future to keep it more automated.

I, however, have not contacted any company as of yet so maybe some of them do.

Sweet! :)

Getting the information on older collectibles will be a task but we should be able to locate some of the details.

Re: Collection Database Website

Lord of the Rings missing from licenses.

1:2 missing from scale table.

Needs Terminator in Licenses.

I added this data out there last night.

I will be pushing out some minor code updates tonight for some of the other things.

Re: Collection Database Website

For the Exlcusive editions, I will go either way the majority thinks is best. I did not know so I entered my exclusives as a collectible.

Having the LSB's under busts is fine especially after the addtion of the 1/2 scale size.

Was about to enter my Kratos Maquette but then had not category or idea how we would approach it. Video Games ? Misc. ?

For now I would like exclusives added under as variants. We will see how this works and can adjust later, or expand on the variant section as needed.

I SHOULD have the God of War under there as a licensee.

I thought about this one as well and I am going to try and follow as close as to how the company is doing it. Sideshow calls it the "God of War" license so that is what I did.

I have been tossing around the idea of adding another category called genre and being able to categorize things further, does anyone have thoughts on that?
