Re: Collection Database Website

Yes, as of now it will require approval before it is accepted, which is one of the reasons why I want the add process to be as painless as possible. If we get a solid community in the end, I might open it up to not needing approval but in the beginning it will be approval only.

I don't disagree.

It will be intense at the start, but if we are helping you get it loaded up with our own collections, it could be a good foundation for go live.

Ok, I think I figured out how to solution, functional, my category issue. Now I just need to implement it.

I knew you would bro. :hi5:

Re: Collection Database Website

Oh and did we finalize how to handle Exclusives vs. Variants ?

Right now I am still considering an Exclusive to be a Variant of the main collectible. The process has been slightly modified from how it is in Alpha.

To add a variant to any exclusive you go through the same add process but with everything basically copied over but allow you to update. I might later streamline this a bit more so it can be faster but I will have to see what you guys think.

The one thing I was struggling with is how to open this up to other things, other than just status and action figures and NOT do hardcore categories.

The biggest problem with this was the add flows for an item that has a known manufacture and set of attributes around that manufacture, vs an item that is massed produced but really isn't keyed off a manufacture, for example, prints and posters.

I was racking my brain about this for a few days trying to figure out the best functional solution to make contributing as easy as possible and make sense to everyone. I have see how other sites do it and I do not find them very user friendly.

HOPEFULLY my solution will be.

Re: Collection Database Website

Not sure what the end game is, but I was thinking that eventually you would want anything collectible, or in other words, something that could be tracked for insurance purposes.

You could probably make some sweet coin pitching this to State Farm or Allstate.

Heck, if you made it basic enough and driven off of SKU/bar codes, you could even throw Google into the mix. :lol

End game is basically everything but to start eventually building a system off statues, action figures, prints, art, yadda yadda.

I do support entering UPC now, so that could definitely be a possibility of just being able to scan bar codes. :)

Re: Collection Database Website

I am sure we will figure out the best way to do this bro. One step at a time. We will build it and they will come !

Hey!! Can't forget us Android users.

Yes! For completely original pieces of Art I have not decided if that will be a separate process or part of the main contributing process but it will be there.

I have to be honest. I think OA will be tough. Not impossible, just tough.

I also think you should focus first on creating a base with the collectibles route to include the norm then move on to Posters, Prints, OA, comics, Misc.

Maybe add them as selections and a Coming Soon page as they are in development.

You took the words right out of my mouth, that is what I was doing last night. :)

Re: Collection Database Website

I have a ton of pages, some cost me a lot, and some cost me $70

That should be badass and you will be my #1 test case when I work on that piece. I think it is just thinking of it both functional and technical.

Do original pieces of artwork get added to the main database but since they are 1/1 they can only be owned by one person and in most cases it should be the person who added it. If the person sells it however it should be released to that person unless they sell it to someone who isn't on the site, then what happens to it?

Because of some of these issues, original art or 1/1 customs might be something that is added to your stash and your stash only and cannot be added by anyone else. If you sell it, then it goes away completely.

value-wise would be tricky...maybe the initial set up can be original price paid. some excellent unkown artist could get red hot & the value could go up, or an artist dying will drive up prices as well

Re: Collection Database Website

I know before mike turner died, you could get a decent slash page for about $1K give or take, and now, I've seen is stuff go for $7-8K

now that gene colon's gone, his stuff is going higher

Hmm you kind of got me thinking. The original Art section might be an off shoot. Where you can add to artists all sorts of known original art they did, including personal commissions. Maybe keep log of the price paid.

The only problem I have with this system is for the stuff that is in the database but not claimed by someone. For this type of 1/1 original art work it would be sweet to have a way to prove that you own it. Instead of someone coming along and scooping up all of the 1/1 art so the person who actually owns it can add it.

All good things to think about for future development.
