Re: Let's Talk Customs Database

We need to know it is a custom. I think that will set it apart.

People kitbash, then there are complete figure customs made to sell.

There are heads... that becomes figures.

There are levels.

:lecture

-1/1 commissioned pieces
-Kitbashed Pieces
-Limited, unlicensed figures that aren't technically mass-produced (Rainman, iminime, Kato/Sean, etc.)

The kitbashed pieces would give you the most trouble I imagine, and unfortunately I think that's where most customs fall. A majority of my customs were put together by pieces offered by several, individual artists.

I think from a technical and functional level I know how I am going to handle the 1/1 pieces and the kitbashed pieces, it is the unlicensed that is sold I am not 100% sure how to handle. Well technically I know how to handle it, it is functional, do I need to indicate to the user this is unlicensed and if so, the best way to do it?

From the bash perspective, there will be different flows to help with that process, however technically it will be added as a collectible that has an owner, which is the user who added it. It can be viewed by anyone but only added to stash by the user who created it. Bashes and the such will not require any approval so it will automatically be added. Future enhancements will allow you to give a bash to someeone else.

Re: Let's Talk Customs Database

Ahhh, I see. Well I can't think of a single figure that I would consider a custom that is licensed, so I think calling it a "custom" is sufficient.

So instead of indicating something as licensed/unlicensed it is either a custom or not. That might be better labeling as to not throw red flags.

Re: Let's Talk Customs Database

Hey everyone,

Phase 1 of the custom solution is out!

Official release notes are here: https://www.collectionstash.com/pages/releases/2.3

What we are supporting in this first phase are customs that are made and sold in quantities by anyone.

For example Skiman makes a custom figure that he made in quantities (more than 1 :) ) and sold can now be added. Or say you have a Trevor Grove Firefly/Serenity headsculpt, those can also be added.

When adding these types of collectibles, they would be added with just artists and not manufacturers. The other distinguishing field when adding these types of collectibles is the "official" checkbox, which basically indicates if it is official or a custom (unchecked).

Currently, this is not for original stuff or 1 of 1 customs or personal bashes. That will be coming next!

I haven't done a formal announcement of this yet, I just wanted to get it out there first for you guys to try out. As always let me know if you have any comments or concerns or questions!

Re: Let's Talk Customs Database

OK so these are the three classifications I have decided on for now when adding collectibles.

- Standard Mass-produced collectibles. This work flow will not change
- Original Collectibles
- Customs

Original and customs are pretty similar however I am making them distinct for now to make it easier when adding. Originals are 1/1 pieces that either you as an artist made for someone (or could be yourself) or you commissioned from someone. Where as a custom is more of what we think as customs, like making a custom Rick from the Walking Dead or a bashed figure.

That looks great, I need to make some time today to get over to the site and check out the new features. :rock

Most definitely. Right now we support you being able to add mass-produced unofficial customs. Then in the next week or two (hopefully) you guys will be able to add your own customs and bashes which I think will take the site to the next level.

I am going to start cataloging some of the custom stuff made and sold on here, like Trevor's sculpts and Moes tailoring.

Re: Let's Talk Customs Database

That is awesome news, then I can add the bulk of my collection! :hi5:

Re: Let's Talk Customs Database

It's a good concept.

It will be like having an additional place for the
artist to post his/her's portfolio.

Instead of having someone page through all your
custom figure pictures in photobucket, this will
organize it more and make it easier.

Thanks! That is definitely my goal. Hopefully it will also make it easier to show off what pieces you used to build that custom. That is the main problem I am having now as I am piecing together customs.

Re: Let's Talk Customs Database

It is coming!

Need to finish up some UI stuff and testing this week. Then first round of customs will be out.
