You clearly do not follow ND football closely enough. It wasn't just the 6-6 record. It's how we played and how we lost the games (and barely won the ones we did). This team regressed and got WORSE as the season progressed (against an easier schedule, USC aside). A clear sign of lacking fundamentals and bad coaching. And there's much more to it than that, trust me.

Don't need to follow them closely. Football is football no matter the team. Coaches and players hold equal responsibility. There is absolutely no way to evaluate a team and it's coach until the players he brings in have played a full 4 years. A legacy or idea of a team or what they should be, created by fans, admins and the media is part of the problem with college football. It's why coaches leave constantly, it's why coaches get fired after 2 years, it's why we have the BCS, the climate is getting absurd.

edit: I'd also like to point out that the most important stat for Weis is that his academic and graduation rate for his team is better than it's been in a long time at ND. You won't hear the media or fans speak out on this, because they'd rather have a national championship than a team of scholars that can also play the game. Student always should come before athlete.

But coaching it the main thing, lots of them have succeded using other coaches players. Stoops won a MNC 2 years after the team went 3-8 with the previous coach. Tressel won his MNC in his second year. Meyer won his MNC in his second year. Saban in his second year has his team rolling.

Coaches should get 4 years, unless they screw the pooch in the first 3.

Alabama pounded Auburn and got their coach Tommy Tuberville fired. It's been a good year.

That doesn't make it the main thing. The coaches responsibility lies only in a game plan and recruiting at the college level. The players still have to execute, the players still have to work hard in the off season when coaches aren't allowed to contact them. Winning with other coaches players doesn't make them a better coach. You can't argue that because who's to say those coaches wouldn't have done the same or better had they not been fired. ND is chasing a legacy at this point. Willingham should not have been fired, Weis shouldn't be fired yet. It's absurd. The majority of his players are sophmores this year, he was good enough to take Willingham's recruits to a BCS so he's good enough to take his recruits there. Time is what it will take.

Coaches should get 4 years from the time their first recruiting class of players they bring in to run their systems play through.

... because it's not true. It's nothing new under Weis. In fact, ND graduated 99% of its players under Bob Davie and won awards for such.

Weis has done only one thing really well: recruiting. And that's all well and good (and necessary), but I personally value wins and competitive play on the field over the word of pampered 17 year old athletes.

Agreed.

It most certainly is true. ND graduated 100% of it's players one year (2001) under Davie. But it's highest GPA according to ND stats was 2.91. Under Weis they've ranked third nationally in player graduation and the GPA is the highest it's ever been at 3.0 or higher each semester.

Well, Notre Dame announced today that Gerry Faust In A Fatsuit™ (aka Charlie Weis) will be returning to hold the football program hostage for at least another year. Here's what I think about that:

And, yes... these are actually my pics that I took today.

even though they are ugly i think the camo'd helmets and pants for army are kind of cool in the army/navy game.

congrats gators, good game. I hate it came down to stupid plays, stupid penalties and no calls but teebo did what he had to do and led them to victory.

teebo come out of the closet.

go sooners.

Yeah, it was a HELL of a game. Lots of back and forth... bad calls on both sides. But one Hell of a game. I am drunk as hell and happy as hell! :rock

well the non-intential grounding call on teebo was huge but other than that it was a well called game. hopefully #63 for florida will miss the championship game after kicking someone in the face on the last play. trash.

go sooners!
