This line was very strong, so there was bound to be a misstep. I just wish it hadn't been one of my favorite characters. It's not just the representation of Barbara as a ditzy teenager, but the proportions aren't really comparable to the control art. I'll buy it, but I won't be happy about it...P(

Why buy something if you are unhappy with it? You can just say "no", can't you?

:D

I don't think anyone was bashing batgirl in the sense that this a "crap statue" I certainly wasn't. I'm disappointed of the representation they chose for the statue so I'm opting not to get it. But for every person not buying it, I'm sure there are 3 people behind me looking to get it so I'm sure the line will be ok.

Take a look at the bust from a fer years back

Put legs on that pose and it's an instant purchase. Sexy and threatening both represented.

I think she looks fantastic! :rock Like RJ said, it's a very Gil Elvgren style but I know not everyone cares for that. It's almost reminiscent of the She-Hulk Comiquette also.

I can see that it doesn't quite go with the others style wise but I honestly wasn't expecting them all to be the same. I'm not bothered by them looking different at all. I'm all for sexy poses too but I love this type of style so I still think she looks sexy.

I think it would be awesome if Adam designs Supergirl in a similar style. :D

I could see the face on one of Gil's pinup girls but when you are wearing full rubber body armor and fumbling with a batarang it just doesn't have the same levity of and Elvgren pinup style art. On the up side the colors look great

She's wearing her red pouch on the opposite side in this bust???!

I also don't get why on God's green earth they would use a convention sketch as a source for the statue?? I mean it's awesome that someone out there now has a statue to go with his AH! Con sketch but Con sketches are usually done very tongue in cheek in and in an informal setting but not for a major comics company to dig up and say "let's do this one!"

I wouldn't be surprised if DCD was in such a hurry to cash in that they didn't give Adam enough time to come up with something new.

I don't understand people buying something they don't really like...

But if you have that much disposable income, more power to you!

No 'more power to you!'.
Buying something you don't like is surely just stupid?!

If ya want to spend a disposable income needlessly then there's no shortage of charities out there. :)

HunniP and Havok, I am glad there are ppl like you out there because if the collectibles market rested in the hands of a few of us jaded/opinionated folks then it would have collapsed.:banana

Can you rationalise that statement for me please?

It sounds as though you see nothing wrong in buying something you do not want?

HunniPot likes the statue, darklord dave didn't like the statue but was gonna buy it anyway (completist). I have some of the covergirls, and I don't like the pose nor facial expression, IC doesn't like it either. I in no way said I see nothing wrong with buying something you don't want, because there is such a difference of opinion on the new as yet unreleased statue I merely stated that it's good that there are people like hunnipot and havok who DO like the statue and are willing to buy it, because this in turn will keep the collectibles market and the line of statues going. How was that not clear:lol

So some members on a couple forums are the majority of collectors that collect this line? There's plenty of collectors out there that don't even visit places like this so how do we know what they think?

I'm sorry but I still don't agree with calling a piece a misstep or mistake even if it can be confirmed that the majority doesn't like it. It's what the artist wanted and is happy with so I don't think anyone has the right to call it that except for that person.

Eamon these are the post that I referred to

I was going to suggest that because I totally agree, but didn't want to start a "war" with someone... :lol

Oh, I have no intention on buying this... :lol I like the style but I don't want her either.

I've been a completist with the line and I'm not going to stop because one of the releases is much weaker than the others.

But I'd agree that it is strange that they'd do a statue based on a con sketch, especially one that is so completely antithetical to the character. I've never seen Barbara as a screwup and the Hughes bust is a great representation of her. However I'm glad they didn't just copy the bust.

Oh, and thanks for the "spoiler" on Stephanie - I was waiting for the TBs to find out who the new Batgirl is. >p

I've never understood completists and I don't understand why a person would buy this statue if they're not happy with it.

I disagree that this piece is a misstep or even weak, I think the piece is pure AH!.

It has a sexy/cute, tongue-in-cheek humor appeal to it.

I don't see how this takes away anything from the character, to me it gives Babs/Batgirl a more human feel. But that's just me.

But I understand that this type of humor injected into the statue is not for eveyone....Which, IMO, makes it even more desirable to have in my collection. :D

Anywho...in the end all that matter is what you like. I like it and I'm buying it. :rock

This is the sketch Adam submitted to DC Direct for Batgirl Covergirls Statue:

batgirlstatue.jpg

DC Direct Google searched, and found a con sketch that Adam did for a fan that they preferred, and they sculpted that instead. You can see the sketch in its original form, in the owner's CAF Gallery:

https://www.comicartfans.com/GalleryPiece.asp?Piece=487437&GSub=40580

That's the story behind this statue. DC Direct chose a cute pose over Adam's original, more serious design.
