I really do hope this is directed at the passive-aggessive vibe as well as the people who insult in CAPS.
There are threads I really want to follow, but I can't hang in because I see the same people luring other people into arguments with smileys and condescending comments. Making it worse is the fact that they repeat themselves and quote themselves about every 10 posts, just in case the people they're baiting didn't see it the first time. And I'm not talking about one incident.
I don't want to see anyone get banned, and I appreciate Dave's position. But there's all kinds of behavior that contributes to the problem, not just blatant name calling. Just because you end your post with a :monkey3 doesn't make you innocent.
But just to be safe....:monkey3

Very well thought out and said YoNoSe. I think those people who try to intentionally "bait" others by posting large PASS images, or making stupid comments followed up with a smiley should be held just as accountable as those who are more direct in their approach. Smileys are for those who want a way out in case fingers get pointed in their direction. If you can't handle the consequence of your action, don't do the action. A smiley should not be a get out of jail card.

I act on the boards just how I am in real life. That is, I act like a douche. Anyone has anything to say about it will meet me personally and tell me to my face. Oh and if you actually call me a douche to my face I will pound you for it. :lecture

Since I know you in reality, I can honestly say, Chris and I embrace your doucheiness. :grouphug

We like you even if you can be a douche sometimes. :D
You leave us with that oh-so-fresh feeling :lol

I appreciate your kind words. All hail the douche! :D

I agree to both what you and YoNoSe have said... Almost seems as though people are cruisin for a brusin in this thread.

You know what? People are just going ^^^^ with each other no matter what. It's what we do in the real world and it's what we're going to do here. It's what some of us were born to do.I haven't been to a job were people don't ^^^^ with each other.

So all this stuff about "why you got do me like that" and "I'm telling on you" OMG!! Just do everyone a favor and take the hit, recover, and then either fire one back or keep on walking,it's your descion.Your only gonna make things worse by crying about it.Because really, you can't expect to come in contact with a human being without them not ^^^^ing with ya,let alone a whole damn website with some 300 posters. It's just not reaslistic!:lol Everyone here knows that they can get away with it more by hiding behind there computer. You can't see the other guys face, unless your talking about a posticon and again I say it's not reaslistic!:lol

And I know,I know..I'm being a little too direct here, but just think about what your asking??Your asking everyone to be nice and curteous and all that Jazz.Trust me people aren't this way,and you all know it?So please by all means have a good time, don't take this ^^^^ too seriously, enjoy your selves and let the ^^^^ing commence.:joy

You know what? Most everyone I know personally, don't give others a hard time. No one at my work place messes with others and there is rarely a disagreement. I find that most everyone I come in contact with on a daily basis are pretty nice people. Maybe people at your work treat you the way you treat them? And yes, it is possible for people to be nice most of the time without insulting or name calling. I think you are being the unrealistic one if you truly believe that most people aren't nice and courteous to their fellow man... only a small percentage can't get along.

I personally don't ^^^^ with people a whole lot.But I know there's quite a few people here and there that do it on regular bases.Just go look in the Conspiracy thread that I started. :lol

But again,I can handle it.You don't see me getting all moody cause of the consistent posting links to that douche bag singer white guy that sounds like a black guy??:lol

I really don't think this is about people getting upset over people messing with them. This is about keeping a warm welcoming environment for new members and about keeping it civil for those of us who don't want to read insults being bandied about when we want to talk about the next awesome thing.

Actually I've found just the opposite to be true, whether it's been in California, Utah, New York City, whatever--people really are nice, but there's a catch. It depends on how you treat them. Of course people will naturally be immature or jerks IF you expect that of them. But conversely, they can be as kind and friendly as you could imagine if you just let them. I always expect people to be nice, and they nearly always live up to that. Sure, a random person here or there might not want people to be nice to them, and so they are rude to everybody, but that's the exception, not the rule. I've found that people are more wonderful than anybody gives them credit for. That's why I love to come here, because almost everybody here is really a wonderful person. I have yet to meet somebody here that I didn't really like. You only get from people what you give to them in the first place.

What he said...

I guess I'm lucky - most of the people I encounter on a regular basis aren't unpleasant to be around. I guess if you're around juvenile delinquents all day or you're a correctional officer than perhaps there's some excuse for antisocial behaviour.

Sorry Cap,but I don't see the world the way some of you do.All I see is a three ring circus.Except for a few exceptions most people to me aren't worth the time.I guess you could call me anti social,or say that I'm not a people person. But it's because I require some integrity out of a person, and after being on this planet for 32 years I found that there are some pretty ^^^^ty individuals walking around this place, even family members.

Mostly carpenters. And yeah, working with some of those guys could be considered as Juvenile/inmates.:lol

But really, you could find some unpeasent people right here. And I'm not about the "hey ^^^^ you" and "I'll rip you a new ^^^^^^^ types".I've only ran into a couple of them types in my 2 year stay here.I'm talking the more subtle unpleasent.

This is what I do, so I'm excused.:wacky

I tend to share Chavez's pessimistic view of human nature, but I suppose I differ from him somewhat in that I don't see it as a worthy excuse that should allow us to settle for lowest common denominator behavior in our interactions with each other.

It might be a natural response stemming from some base human instinct when I want to club the old lady over the head with a polo mallet because she is holding up the line at Target while she argues about an expired coupon worth 25 cents--but I try to suppress that instinct for the greater good of my fellow humans. The only thing that keeps us all from Lord of the Flies territory is our adherence to the "rules" of polite society (illusory though that concept may be) and so I do my best to treat people as I would want to be treated--even though I sometimes grumble quietly afterwards.

personally theres a big difference to me between personal attacks and just friendly ribbing or acting up a little for a laugh.

The day we can no longer crack a harmless joke is the day I'll disappear from the board.
I try to find something funny in just about everything in life each day.

The president of my company has stated before that one of her fav characteristics of me is that I can lighten up even serious / tense moments and keep everyone in that moment sane just by cracking an offbeat joke when not expected.

I just hope it never comes to the point that the board's butthole is puckered air-tight cause we have to conform to each and every imbalanced nut that flies off the handle at an obviously harmless comment.
what a boring board it would be .... :monkey1
