Re: Current discount codes at SSC and other random rumblings

Anyone is free to start a thread. I laugh every time I see this suggestion of a thread dedicated to codes and only codes. DO IT. Are people posting this because they want some OTHER person to do it for them? Of course they are.

Do you know how many people were helping with emails? 4 total. 24 hours per day we covered that task. Do you know how many times I posted asking over the past few months for other people to help with this? How many people replied? 0. How many people do you think replied asking to be put on the email list though? Well I'm never going to divulge that number, but many more than 0.

Everyone's looking for a handout and even wen there are people that go out of their way to do it, they get crapped on. I'm not implying that it was these four people that were posting any kind of fake codes, because it wasn't. There are a lot of participants in the thread who also did a lot of helping with real-time updates. And between those updates everyone chatted. About everything. It's just a room with a lot of noise. Think of a dance club. If it's too noisy and you can't conduct your important business call inside, then it's not really cool to tell everyone else to quiet down.

As far as this being Dave's board? Yup, that's true. But only Dave speaks for Dave. And he also has moderators to help run the board - many of whom have been participating here fin this thread for a very long time, including the posting of, gasp, "fake codes." In any case, I don't believe anyone has the full picture unless they put some serious effort into combing through all the content. Those who did see most, if not all of it, are in the best position to comment.

I can understand both sides of this thing to a degree. I was here for the majority of it and the fake codes overwhelmed a few pages for a moment. When it became a debacle it was treated like a joke as well but only by a handful of people. Still, I just can't see how someone could read, copy, and paste something like D1CKH3AD or A$$FAC3 without thinking twice about it. I found codes both here and facebook/twitter. I even entered a few of the less obvious fake codes. To me it was no harm no foul but I can see how it would be annoying for someone rushing to enter every last one of them.

I know I'm new but I really enjoyed it despite boredom setting in once or twice. Hopefully this type of thing won't ruin it for everyone.

Re: Current discount codes at SSC and other random rumblings

Is the CREEPYDEAL coupon valid until November 7 as SSC reward points page says or October 31 as the original post of this thread says?

Re: Current discount codes at SSC and other random rumblings

A few questions for those who posted fake codes.

What purpose do they serve? Why are they neccessary?

Re: Current discount codes at SSC and other random rumblings

So...official Sideshow twitter, official Sideshow facebook, a SideshowChicky twitter account, and three different accounts for Susan? That's six sources to have to be constantly looking at? I can see now why this thread was so attractive to people. I can also see now why so many codes slipped past me until they were mentioned on this thread--I was only looking at the two official Sideshow pages.

Codes were only ever posted at CollectSideshow, SideshowChicky and Facebook Sideshow page. Any other account are personal accounts and not used for business or spooktacular.

If SSC has a different date, go with theirs. They are the ultimate authority on code length, not this thread.

Because we were having a conversation, and people were testing codes to see if they worked, in fact it began in the first day when the whole "codes are out now somewhere on our site!" People started trying codes just to see where they got to, then they just got more and more ridiculous as they evolved along with the conversation. Everybody who walked in and saw a fake code and ran to SSC to complain about it was no different than someone walking into a conversation, hearing a single word, and then ranting and raving over that single word.

Context is everything.

I did contemplate starting the thread but I knew people wouldn't take it seriously and it would either A) get buried or B) people wouldn't adhere to the codes only rule.

And I'm very grateful for the emails. I got most of the codes that way.

That's the thing, they weren't all of the CR41G5M0M variety. Some looked like they could be valid.

For the record I still don't get why people are so insulted by the notion of not posting fake codes in the future. It's not like they were the only source of entertainment in the entire thread. It's the equivalent of banning knock-knock jokes. There are plenty of other kinds of jokes to tell.

I think it was just done to poke fun at the configuration of the codes, usually using the 3's as E's, etc etc to see what people could come up with. Nobody sat around saying "hey lets create some fake codes to trick the lurkers into trying to use them". No, they weren't necessary, but if we want to talk about what is necessary, why do we need conversations about what figures might be made from a certain movie or franchise if there has been no indication that they will be made. You're not going to find me calling up SSC and drowning them with inquiries about where Catwoman and Penguin are from Batman Returns, or where's Doc from BTTF.

Twitter wasnt bad for me. I just set my phone to get notifications of tweets from those specific accounts and then I'd rush to post them here. Overall, I think this thread worked fairly well. (aside from people crashing sideshow customer service) Code would come out, people would say go go go, that code would be reposted 30 times with people confirming that it worked and some generous folks on here would email and text others the codes. It's just been a long week and lots of people are sleep deprived from staying up late :lol Even Susan mentioned that she passed out on her floor. Seems like a lot of folk got fed up on the last day.

I see your point and what you did with the e-mails for everyone who wanted them was awesome!

But I think we all have to realize this thread was originally setup to help people or "give hand outs" to people who were looking for help with Spook. We can't really fault them for looking for help when the thread was created for it in the first place. You also have to realize that there were more than likely a lot more people visiting this page than were signed up for your e-mail alerts.

I think we all have to realize that although we thought we were being funny we were really confusing a lot of people who maybe were only stopping by for 2 seconds that they could spare out of their day to visit the forum with help with Spook that this thread was designed to do. If Dave doesn't like the way we were posting we should own up to it and admit we were in the wrong. There are plenty of other threads here to act stupid in.

Yet code still popped in here.. why because of the same people being accused of posting fake codes are the ones watching all these media and posting it all here. They don't have to but yet they did. I myself was victim, of two codes. 1 wasn't funny at all so I assumed it was real. But I didn't call CS. To those who called CS what the heck is wrong with you people.

Re: Current discount codes at SSC and other random rumblings

Do you speak for everyone who posted fake codes? You're only 1 of many.

No I don't spoke for everyone but most other people are asleep and you are asking why so I am giving you a summary as to what I saw and why people were doing it.

Because this Spook its fake codes, over 12 days it'll be fake riddles, over Stark Week it'll be fake pictures. Someone is going to try and get indignant about whatever is going on that isn't satisfying their immediate need for free stuff. It'll never change, only the item of outrage changes.

Can you call up Hot Toys at least and drown them with inquiries? I think it's the only way we'll ever get either figure... :)

But even if they did paste it, that's not the issue, it's that apparently some people called Sideshow on the phone. Go figure, right? I'm not here to argue about other people's stupidity, I'm just saying that any post in any thread can cause an issue for the right kind of visitor at any time.

Considering that (A) the name of the thread has always been along the lines of 'Codes and other stuff that has nothing to do with codes' and (B) the thread was created before you were a member of this forum, I find it funny to read you speaking about the who, what, where and why this thread was originally created.
