Yes, people called in about real codes from time to time not working but in a situation of a real code someone has a problem with it's easy and quick to assist folks with a real code. People calling in about fake codes (which there were MANY calls and chats that occurred) takes longer as the person inquiring about it doesn't always believe the CS reps (9 times out if 10) when they inform them about it being fake and so they will keep them on the line for an extended amount of time because they aren't getting the answer they want. In some instances yesterday some of our CS reps had to endure being yelled and cursed at over fake codes. One could say that's part of the territory in that sort of position within a company but it makes me sad and frustrated when a human being has to endure bad treatment that they are undeserving of.
But again, the fake codes were not started or even continued as something malicious (at least that's my perspective). Just unexpected side effects occurred.
