Thanks guys! :hi5: I was going to work on him some tonight, but my lack of sleep and jet lag has kicked in. :monkey4

Olbert: I did see the email about Kaneda. I could probably do a really good leather replacement suit for him. I have that figure also. But I'm not sure when I would have time since I'm booked for the next few months. I'll revisit down the line. Remind me.

Re: UPDATED WIP Custom "Dredd 3D" "Judge Dredd" Figure - Painted Un-helmeted HS VERSI

I was feeling a little rundown today so I couldn't concentrate on the un-helmeted HS and hands. So I started playing around with a basic concept for the custom base.

The basic look is based on the lighting installments seen in the PeachTrees Block in the movie. I thought the way they had that yellowish ground level lighting running through the corridors looked really cool. Of course if I make this a lighted base - it would drive the cost up a bit, so I'm thinking that it would just be sculpted with the lighting housing details and maybe airbrushed to have the light effect. But if it was lighted - it would look awesome.

The crest in the front would have a base in the back so that Dredd can be posed with one foot up in the classic hero pose. And the base would be weathered and crumbling with maybe some graffitti.

So it's up to you guys. Lighted base or not? Here's a rough mock-up.

Oh holy crap that looks gorgeous.

I've got lighted bases for all the DX Hot Toys... but I'll be honest... I only use them when I first get them for a few minutes. I'll have this displayed proudly in a detolf with lighting already set up. (I almost never turn on any lights on figures as well...)

Will this have the standard crotch grabber holding it up?

I don't have any lighted bases either. Maybe I can find some glow-in-the-dark yellow paint so that it has a low glow.

Hmm... maybe some type of reflective gold foil?

Re: UPDATED WIP Custom "Dredd 3D" "Judge Dredd" Figure - Painted Un-helmeted HS VERSI

I think it could also look pretty cool to just sculpt the lighting fixtures all falling apart and not working. With cracks in the lenses and maybe some are showing the bulbs and guts hanging out.

Ya, I think that could look really neat... maybe with some bullet holes too haha. That clean look you mocked up already looks really really nice, but a Peach Trees themed base can also look amazing. But I'm just one voice haha.

Thanks TotalDominAsian! Definitely needs weathering, cracks, bullet holes, and graffitti. I'll probably make the top surface have some kind of grating pattern. Bases are actually pretty tricky to make - if they're too big - they can ruin the figure posed on it.

I also reworked the collar piece (V3) and the gauntlets. Pictures late tomorrow.

I'm not a big fan of the crotch grabber - or any of those attachments actually. 1) if you're not careful, they can ruin your figure. I've had some permanently make an indentation in vinyl figure clothing - and a couple times - the silicon rubber knubs on the end stuck to the figure and left a stain. 2) they just look ugly to me.

For all my figures - I reinforce all the joints so that my buyers don't have to remove any clothing items to fix loose joints. I make the clothes with realistic fit - which makes taking them off and on a real pain in the ars. The benefit to the reinforced joints is that they will hold a pose really well.

So no crotch grabber attachment needed.

Re: Custom "Dredd 3D" "Judge Dredd" Figure - WIP

I definitely think a "Battle Damaged" Peach Tree base would look rather amazing for this figure...possible bullet casings on the floor from that epic scene where Dredd outlives the barrage of bullets from Mama and her men. Some "SlowMo" cartridges on the floor. Maybe the base has a huge chunk of broken concrete on the floor where Dredd can have his leg raised like that epic movie poster pose you had him earlier in your thread :panic:

That's what stood out for me the most while watching Dredd, besides the slow mo drug scenes, was the art design from the building. Gritty and rundown with vibrant colors mixed in

Just an idea...but like TotalDom...I rarely use lighted bases also...but anything you come up with will be epic :)

Edit: just re-read my post above :lol I wrote it at 4am, trying to put my newborn back to sleep...not bad for a half asleep posting...I thought it would be total gibberish!

Love the base idea but I doubt most of us will use it as we display more than 1 figure per shelf. But that's my take
