Re: DarkArtist's Creations of DOOM!

Thanks guys! The smudge was inspiration from Les' take on the sculpt, I saw what he did and the gears started turning. You can see the progression, as I continue to tweak here and there on the painted heads. They will all be smudged I think, I really like it. But each will have a slightly different expression and cracks.

Buttmunch, thank you! It's true... This sculpt is nearly wrinkle free, it's quite a feat to create the cracks and wrinkles from paint alone. :lol

It's all about giving the illusion of depth and variance in tone. :rock

You're rocking them out bro!
Really nice takes on them. It is hard to not do some variations when you do multiples. It takes some away from your creative flow if you don't let them say their own thing each.

Hey Josh, PM and Email sent...

Re: DarkArtist's Creations of DOOM!

Thanks a lot Les. I love painting these multiples, it's fun to experiment as you move along.

Thanks.
And by the way, having painted this head also, I can vouch for him when I say, there is a LOT of detail there to be painted! :horror
LOTS!!!!! So, everything Josh is doing is pure magic! And a lot of it to boot! TONS of detail....took me a long time to figure out. And you're doing sets! :rock

Re: DarkArtist's Creations of DOOM!

Ok, today I took some time off from commissions... just to ease my mind.. :lol

And I did something that many custom artists have done from time to time to rejuvenate the creative soul... I went "parts-diving" and made a quick custom. Something totally off the wall and made entirely of junk parts, stuff you will never use for anything important. And it was GREAT. I had a blast. And I think it really got me excited for the rest of my commission work, something I sorely needed.

What I am really proud of is the gun, I made that thing entirely out of odd parts of other guns and other random stuff. Oddly enough, the handle and base of the gun was originally a welder from a Colonial Marine figure.

So where is this weird custom figure you ask? Well, here is a peek at it. I'll post better pics tomorrow, and even show you his crazy alien sword. :joy

Re: DarkArtist's Creations of DOOM!

Yeah, I had an extra David Merrill sculpt I knew I wasn't going to use and decided to make a go with it on this one. :lol

And Zack, you are dead on the money... I was thinking some uber-militaristic alien race that just conquers planets with impunity. Something crazy scary like that.

I went with black skin, with vieny "cracks" in his face, almost like like he has Lava in his veins. I wanted a high contrast look, so I did the white tattoos on the neck and brows. Really just an intimidation thing this race does, almost like the samurai masks back in the day. Just something to make the enemy stop in his tracks for a moment, at least long enough to die. :rock

Yeah, that's pretty crazy man. I like it a lot Josh! That paint job makes the figure. The tattoos are so cool on him. Ad the gun is steam punk too, old school looking and advanced at the same time. Nice!

Re: DarkArtist's Creations of DOOM!

kinda makes me wish i had an ounce of talent.:lol

ps- im more interested in those 4 heads around his feet.:D

That's a very cool figure Josh! Love it!

Check your PM box btw ;)

Re: DarkArtist's Creations of DOOM!

wow that's impressive. so how long did it take you to make it? he looks great and with the paint job and the combining of diffrent parts not to mention the creative process it would have guessed that this would count as "quick."

I really like the paint job you did with the face and I keep looking at the gun wondering if I wold have picked up on the Aliens part of it if you hadn't said it.

Re: DarkArtist's Creations of DOOM!
