Re: DarkArtist's Creations of DOOM!

Well, I AM finishing up three of the first guys... MaulFan, The Obsolete Man and Ian's heads. I WILL be finishing up the entire set before Halloween though. I hope to be done with the Jokers as well... Just trying to cram it all in before the Holidays get here.

I DID do another quickie sculpt this weekend, for another figure line. Still need to mold it and do the clothing, but here is what I have to show for it so far.. My Ghostface... (The hood is just a mockup with the material I have)

OMG, just because I said I was doing a Ghostface. You bastard. :monkey5

Awesome, man. Can't wait to see more. :D

Re: DarkArtist's Creations of DOOM!

:lol You guys are hilarious.

I've been wanting to do a Ghostface for a looong time. Also hoping to do a V for Vendetta soon too, but that one will be a while. GF was easy and fast, not a lot of detail.

Re: DarkArtist's Creations of DOOM!

Ghostface looks great! He's asking me what my favorite scary movie is! :horror

Wow Josh, are you going to be doing full figures of the GF?

Indeed I will. I have the fabric situation handled and should have a prototype done here soon. AFTER I finish those three Myers, an Anakin and the Feng Bale... But very very soon!

I could have sworn I was one of the first 3 for the Myers sculpt  well I guess not then.

Re: DarkArtist's Creations of DOOM!

Small suggestion, if I may say so. You might want to soften the definite of the white embossing around the eyes where they wrap around the nose. I had the mask myself once and always had it burnt in my mind from the movies, most of the time, the shadows really only showed embossing around the cheek bone area and the higher, brow point but not much around the eyes. Just a small thing, still look stellar regardless. Look forward to seeing how you handle the costume.

I must have written it down wrong... I will do yours then, as the last of the three. I'll go ahead and cast Ian's head and get started on that, but I really want to get those three haired and finished tomorrow.

And Sean... I see exactly what you mean now! I was using the Mcfarlane figure as reference, just looked up shots on Google and I see exactly what you mean. I will modify it a bit with Magic sculpt before making the mold. :rock

Funny you say that, as it was always something that bothered me with the McFarlane.

Interestingly, I knew Ghost Face before Michael Myers, Scream and Silence of the Lambs were the first horror movies I'd ever seen, I was just the right timing when Scream came out, stuck with me instantly and I loved the look of the Ghost Face mask, used to sketch it in class when my mind wandered, often haha, and got the mask. I've been a big kid for quite some time so when I wanted to be Ghost Face for Halloween, the costume for my height was too snug, my mom made me one all her own, it was more accurrate and everything, I loved it, had so much fun running around dressed up like that. Then when I first saw Halloween, fell in love with Michael's look for probably the same reasons, which is natural since GF is based off Michael's core elements, simplicity, bold shadow spots for eerie reveals. Michael's better though, and of course being a force of nature more than just a man makes him more intriguing as well, and scream never had a G vs. E like Loomis and Michael, they had their Laurie Strode but no Loomis styled character, which fit with their villain type, but is still an element that makes Halloween awesome.

Re: DarkArtist's Creations of DOOM!

I was really into the first Scream as well, being such a huge Halloween fan... it was a natural fit. And I loved the writing and how it was structured, not to mention the amazing costume. It really stays in your mind, very simple... but still scary.

I've ALWAYS wanted a good figure of it, and desperately have been trying to get it done. Figured I would stay on the horror kick and get it done. :rock

Re: DarkArtist's Creations of DOOM!

I'm glad you're taking initiative on it.

McFarlane's was acceptable for lack of options, but between the pose, the off details of the mask, and the almost Force Unleashed flow to the costume, it just doesn't feel like all that good of a representation. I find the McF's hood clings too tight to the head, which was a flaw with the store bought costume, my homemade hood hung perfectly. The mask face is so much more powerful when it's really lost in a sea of black, McF's hugs it so close on the sides, takes some of the effect away.

Re: DarkArtist's Creations of DOOM!

I agree... the hood in the Mcf was waaay too small for my liking too, and I didn't like the pose either.

I'm really excited about doing the costume, I really want to make it look as good as I possibly can. Should be a very cool addition to my Horror lineup.

Re: DarkArtist's Creations of DOOM!

Any ideas yet what you're going to do for the knife?

This is one of the views I drew a lot.

Another fave and really shows off what I mean about the hood engrossing the white to make it more powerful.

Re: DarkArtist's Creations of DOOM!

Also the mcfarlane figure has a sash around it's waist, not film accurate. In the film the gown just flowed from head to feet. The sash's hanging from the arms are wrong as well.

The Spencer doll is a better reference if you have it.

Re: DarkArtist's Creations of DOOM!

Ya, I think McFarlane must have gone out and bought one of the store costumes and figured it was accurrate, those costumes have the sash too.

I used co-run Moviemaniacs.net and I can tell you that Mcfarlane did not have the license to scream. The figure is based on a store bought unlicensed version of the costume. The first wave did include a mini scream poster but when Dimension films got wind of it they issued and cease and desist order.

Mcfarlane was forced to replace the poster with a generic photo of the figure.
