Re: DarkArtist's Creations of DOOM!

That wolverine repaint is brilliant DA. very realistic, and just shows how bad the original paintjob was (with a good sculpt underneath) and how a very good paintjob can bring it out.

but for cryin' out loud, will you stop getting better?? I'm gonna have to raise my game :rotfl

Dude, the game is raised whether the rest of us like it or not. Josh is now, officially, a force to be reckoned with. :D
There's Talent, and there's Training. He's got one is spades. Now, he's getting the other.
:rock :rock :rock :rock

Welcome in Josh! Water's warm.
But, watch it! there are sharks in the water.
CHOMP!

Just kiddin' ya bro. :lol

Your Wolvie is just the start....
Great things coming I am sure. Can't wait to see more unfold.

Re: DarkArtist's Creations of DOOM!

Wow man... Thank you so very much! I feel like so much has come together in just this one week. All the techniques I had before were all self taught, and to now have seen how a repaint is really done.... It's put all the pieces together. Les really made it happen for me.

I'm still surprised.... For my first year...

To go from this...

I'm very excited to see where it all goes from here....

And as you can see by that last pic... I still need to work on eyes....:lol

Re: DarkArtist's Creations of DOOM!

DA...is this a new repaint?

I have seen the other Ben you did,However the flesh tones seem better on this one.

Eyes are very frustrating thing for me as well.I paint the right eye then flip the head over and paint the left side.

Again tasteful repaint man :rock

Re: DarkArtist's Creations of DOOM!

Thanks OrbitingX! This is an entirely new Old Ben for another person.... totally seperate from my last effort.

Eyes are hard, just because they look better when you paint them and what you can see with the naked eye.... But when you zoom in... looks horrendous. I have to get a set of magnifying goggles or something... :lol

Re: DarkArtist's Creations of DOOM!

That's looking much better Josh.
I remember you brought him over, but he was just skin and grey hair, flat...
This is so much more detailed. Love the facial marks and moles and bits. SO much more organic and "real". That's more like it. You did that some with your Wolverine too. It's the flaws that make it work, not the perfection.

Eyes...ok....just less than two weeks!!!...I'll be down...next lesson....eyes! Your's are getting much better though. Each head's (person's) is it's own problems and solutions.

Thanks Les! Yeah, I have to agree on the skin tone thing. It's the little stuff that makes it really pop and seem more realistic. The moles and grooves in the skin, really fun to paint... especially the Obi sculpt, LOTS of cool stuff in that one! I really enjoyed painting it....

And I cannot wait for your arrival! It's going to be very cool.... I revamped the room to make sure you had some stuff to look at and not just an almost empty space. I hope to have a lot more painted too, so that should be nice. Thanks again Les...:rock

Re: DarkArtist's Creations of DOOM!

Great stuff as always Josh. One thing that's worth mentioning to everyone else is that when he painted my Anakin and Obi-Wan UPS actually mailed my figures to the wrong house! Thankfully the old lady who received them gave me a call which led to me sending a frantic PM to Josh asking that he retrieve them before the old lady, her grandkids, dog, whatever decided to "play" with them (I assumed the package was just delivered to the wrong house on Josh's street.)

Well I think it turned out that the lady actually lived more than half an hour away from Josh but he cancelled his plans to drive out to get them *that very night*. I had no idea until he had already picked them up.

CLASS. ACT. :clap

Re: DarkArtist's Creations of DOOM!

Thanks Khev! Yeah, no way I could forget that! :lol

Luckily the lady was so sweet, so it made picking it up not hard to handle at all. After that, I started having stuff delivered to my work!

Re: DarkArtist's Creations of DOOM!

Josh, it's pretty awesome to see from the beginning how your stuff has progressively improved from each repaint. Your hard work is paying off and I can only say to keep it comming man!

That's a really cool concept on old Ben. I had never thought of a repaint on the Ewan figure to make him look like old Ben. I am pretty impressed with that. Looks really good!

KUDOS!! I'm impressed, and it's pretty hard to do that. I like the gray coloring of the hair and beard. Don't for the life of me remember, did Episode III Obi-Wan wear the same tunic as old ben?

Re: DarkArtist's Creations of DOOM!

No completely different. I have one of Josh's Old Bens the one before the Les Treatments...:monkey5 and I bought a Masterpiece Hasbro Anakin to swap clothes with, it fits him perfectly, even down to the pointed hood.

(Just kidding Josh, I love my Old Ben....):D

Re: DarkArtist's Creations of DOOM!

I think it's a fascinating concept, Josh! I'd love to see the next one take a step back from ANH, and show us Ewan still with some color in his hair, but obviously heading toward Guiness Gray.

I wonder if, when SSC finally gives us an ANH Ben, he'd look anything like Ewan with his hair done Ep III style. It's amazing how much their faces look alike, and this really sort of bares that out.

I just got done watching X3, and I have to say man... it is unbelievable how well you captured the look of Wolverine with you work. It really looks like he just stepped out of the screen!

You are certainly becoming the **** my friend! :chew :chew

Any chance you'll be weathering the uniform?

Yeah, man... I would love to do that... Maybe one day if I can get another Obi to work with... Funny that Les and I had the same talk and he insisted the same thing... :lol

These two I did were commissions... One for JediMike and another for Mfoga. But both entirely different in how they were achieved.

And thanks Joseph! I sat there with pics of Hugh and watching X3 while painting to try and make sure I had the colors right. It took me a while, but in the end... He became one of my favorite repaints of all time. I really love that figure.... so different from the one that came from Medicom... What a difference paint makes!

I don't think I will do anything to the costume, I really like it as is.... :rock

Watch this thread later this weekend... As I reveal what I've done for the dead.... :D
