Re: DarkArtist's Creations of DOOM!

And I wanted to update a few people... Minmay, I will PM back very soon man. And Praxitas, I am still up for what we had planned... just pulling back from everything else.

I just want you all to know that I am not in any way fishing for sympathy or just in a rough spot (wanting attention)... I just know the game is up. There are much better customizers out there right now, better customs... My stuff looks like crap compared to much of what is being made right now. And with HT stepping up their game, it does make this job all the more hard for it.

I don't have much time to work anymore, and if I continue to take orders it will only hurt my reputation and crush my internet friendships (what few I have). And as I said before, the fire inside has gone out. This hobby has ceased to be the thing that holds back my pain and has started being the thing that makes it flare up. I feel the depression I have struggled with all my life creeping back into my world and I don't like it. I can't afford to feel that way anymore, I have a Wife who needs me... and a life that needs to be started.

I will still be here, and I will still do stuff occasionally. But my painting for profit days are behind me. I'm tired of making people wait, I'm tired of refunds, tired of full inbox's, tired of my customers selling my figures before they get them (understandable as it may be), tired of leaving people with headless figures until they just don't care anymore... I'm tired of it all.

The love just isn't there anymore, so it is time to let it go. I'm still shooting to get my backlog done this summer, and with my school schedule... it should be doable. Bills will be hard to handle, but I will make due. I just can't sacrifice my health, my sanity, or my family life for plastic heads and a few extra bucks. It's not worth it. It's time to step down and let the new guys take the burden. It's time for Old Yeller to take two in the skull and go to bed. :lol

Updates coming soon, DA out... :chug

Ahh my friend. I can see how this world can get you down as easily as it can bring you up.

I personally think you made an attempt to give so many admirerers of your wonderful art a piece of you, that you maybe overextended yourself. I feel personally this happened with the Jokers (similar to Les' Hicks head). Then, you have those that were always searching for updates and their pieces.

Me, It took me personally 15 months to get some pieces done from you. And I tell you, ideally, not the best situation, but damn if in the end I was not the happiest bugger in the world with my pieces. I am happy to now have three custom figs and one custom repaint from you in my collection. And I tell you, I am extremely proud of each piece and I pray to add more in the future (as discussed).

Back on topic, I think these pressures, plus the pressures of Reality and Real Life are more than enough to swipe one's spark. But I hope while you allow it to dull your flame slightly, don't ever let it put it out as it is you and I still think you can move on to working for the big leagues.

Hence why when you say, there are many out there now, yes there are, but each has their own niche, But there is only one DA, just as there is only one Les, and so on. Just like Stallone, Arnie, Willis, Ford... All greats.

I hope this makes sense bro. All I know, I will continue to support you, your work and your future endeavors as best I can... so needless to say, you got email coming ! :naughty

Re: DarkArtist's Creations of DOOM!

Not again ! BUMP FOR MY BRO !

Re: DarkArtist's Creations of DOOM!

Thanks for the bump!

Since I never did a proper FX report, I thought I would share that with you guys. Here are a mess of pics of my time there, with tidbits here and there.

The entire trip was basically an Anniversary thing for my Wife and I (2 years :rock), and we only went for Saturday. But it was a really good time, and we had some Con noobs with us (Therese's good friend and her dude, Justin)... so that made it even more fun.

First off, the autographs. at past FX cons, you could get a photo taken with the star.. but now they charge for that... so we had to sneak pics here and there. So that took the fun out of some of them, also the price was extremely high for Nimoy and moderately higher for Marsters. So that made for a more expensive trip than I had planned.

One of the highlights for me was meeting Jonathan Frakes, he was always one of my favorite Trek character actors and it really was a great moment when I was able to tell him how much his acting meant to me growing up.

James Marsters was another stand out, he was very nice and funny as Hell. I absolutely loved talking to him, and seeing as though we had a professional photo taken later... we had even more chances to chat with him as well. He kind of stole the show for me, one of the greatest actor meeting experiences I have ever had.

Leonard Nimoy was a challenge, it took a lot of time and money to get up there for my auto. And once I was there, I didn't get to say much and all I got was a thank you and I was off... So that kinda sucked, but I can understand that he must be pretty tired of conventions by this point in his life. Still, he was a nice guy and it was awesome to meet one of my all time favs.

There were also other actors we met, Julie Benz, Juliette Landau, and others.. here are some random pics..

Re: DarkArtist's Creations of DOOM!

WOW Josh, that Farmboy Luke looks AMAZING! I had passed on getting one of those from SS because I wasn't totally sold on it, but you've knocked that one out of the park...makes me wish I was getting THAT one! :rock

P.S., I see that my package to you has arrived! AWESOME!!! Can't wait to start seeing those Anakin PF head repaints taking shape! :rock :rock :rock

Re: DarkArtist's Creations of DOOM!

Thanks guys! I did indeed have a great time. And thanks for the comments, I know they are bad pics. But I am very happy with how Luke and the Terminator came out, these pics do them no justice at all. Aayla is really forming up too, her color took a lot of work.

And IF, yep! Got the Anakins and will start work on them very soon. :rock

Re: DarkArtist's Creations of DOOM!

Awesome work. :rock
what do you think of the hellboy 2 pf Josh ?.
Debating ordering it.

Re: DarkArtist's Creations of DOOM!

Daamn, I love that terminator man, Great Work...

Re: DarkArtist's Creations of DOOM!

I love it! It's definitely one of my all time faves. The only thing I was miffed about was the wonky eyes, but they really aren't that noticeable... and I can just repaint them. But overall, it was a really damn good PF.
