Re: DarkArtist's Creations of DOOM!

Simply to further the support for the true value that can be found in custom pieces, a repost to celebrate my special piece from DA.

It was never about just getting some figure for myself, I wanted to have a figure of a character I love, made by an artist with an equal love for the character and having a cool addition to my collection that enhances my friendship with Josh.

words do not express the sheer captivating power of Josh's work. Its such a shame to watch him be driven from the artwork he poured so much of himself into :monkey2

Re: DarkArtist's Creations of DOOM!

The guy has mad skills, no doubt, and I hope that he will maintain a drive for it to do his own work after he gets all his commissioned stuff squared away.

Re: DarkArtist's Creations of DOOM!

Thanks a lot for the love guys... I really appreciate it. And I need even more than I ever did, it's helping me to get back to my brushes. I hope to have something to show in the coming days, at least a few small things.. :rock

One of the true gems of my collection. It's obvious he poured his heart into that one.

I think that's central in the issues with attitudes towards customization around here lately.

I don't dare presume the mindset of every custom artist at this site, but I do perceive that a lot of the in demand artists these days are about quickly turning around work to customers, and it's good work and people are happy, but I don't get a feeling of emotional involvement behind the work. Josh and some of the other more artsy customizers have a specail quality to their work because you can tell heart was put into it, love for the character or the project, and I think it shows in the final work, there's just a touch of something extra put into their stuff. I mean Josh took the time to wear our the heels of Myers' jumpsuit, add holes and spots for wear and tear. The level of detail put into it and the types of details shows a true passion behind the work, you can get the sense that when he does those things, it's not because it's paint by numbers from a photo, but rather and understanding of the subject and a mental process of going over what details should be there to further enhance that this little 12" figure seems more like a shrunken version of a real person, and thinking of things like that the bottom of the pants would rip getting caught on the heel and stains from the garage work and all that show that extra bit.

And while I'm sure plenty of work is genuinely late from some of the customizers at this site, I also think that because some just crank out work and have given the customer base a sense that work can be done quickly, people aren't stopping to realize some folks also need and put more time into pieces to make it something really special, and care more about the turnaround than anything else, which is ok, but I think each situation needs to be handled on an artist by artist basis because they all have different approaches to their work.

spoken like a true scholar. I would much rather be in it for the long haul and receive a piece of art, not a piece of work

Re: DarkArtist's Creations of DOOM!

Man that Terminator is amazing. I wish Josh were more in the mode as I had hoped to get a whole line of Terminator pieces from him, but c'est la vie..:monkey2

Since we're showing off some of our DA pieces here's two of mine.

You see, this is what I mean. I would never ever get a piece like this on my own... but after I saw this one... The way the eyes... Even I wanted one.

Re: DarkArtist's Creations of DOOM!

Very Bold statement coming ahead:

In the end, I think Josh Church became the greatest painter/customizer on this board. He's definitely my favorite now.

Re: DarkArtist's Creations of DOOM!

Mad- Yeah, Josh did a great job. The weathering was exactly what I wanted.

Re: DarkArtist's Creations of DOOM!

Thanks a lot guys! Especially love what Shai said, that really hits me right in the chest bro, I really appreciate the Hell out of that.

Tonight I got a LOT done, definitely got a bit of the fire back. I finished a few figures and a few heads, got a lot boxed up and ready to ship out tomorrow. I hope to get more done as the week goes. I need to get this crap shipped off!! :rock

I'd take pics, but it takes too damn long... and besides they are all boxed up anyway. But I will try to snap a few for you guys tomorrow of whatever I do. :lol

And PM's incoming... I've been so damn busy, I haven't read a lot of them. RPToys, I will respond soon as well. I have already started painting the Han, so I will try to get him done ASAP to add to your lot. I don't want to send him back to you half finished.

Awesome to see you have the fire back Josh. Too bad you didn't take pics of all the work, but I'm sure once those fine Freaks receive their goods, they'll be snapping plenty of photos to post here to keep it alive. I know I will when I get my Anakin PF heads back and that AWESOME Deckard sculpt you did up! Hope you made him a bit battered...since he has that 'end-of-film' wet-head look, he's gotta be all dinged up from his scuffle with Batty! :rock
