thankyou thankyou thankyou fellas

I'll take the compliments about the paint job, everything below the ears and chin, the corners of the mouth, the ears and the softened frown lines..... but praise HAS to go to Andy Bergholtz for a knockout sculpt.... the face is just fabulous, I had a lot of good to start with!! :rock

and cocobolo..... thanks man... that's quite a compliment (even if I might agree with you )

:lol:rotfl:lol

I just wanted to take a moment to offer a few words on a custom sculpt Darren had worked on for me. I have been insanely busy these past few months. Whoever thought moving and getting married right around the holidays was possible needs to get a swift kick! My fiance and I bought our first home and we close Friday, and we are getting married three weeks after Christmas!

A while back I asked if some of our wonderfully talented customizers might be wanting to work on a project for me. Everyone who responded was incredible and generous, and I was disappointed that I could only choose one. My fiance and I looked at everyone's work, and she liked Darren best due to some of the painting he has done. I was looking to get a WWI figure of my grandfather, and didn't have many photos to work with...I had little hope for this project, but I wanted to try. My dad is a huge collector of toy soldiers, and loves marching regiments particularly. He served in the military like his father before him, and has always loved small toy soldiers. For his birthday, I had gotten him the two figures from Sideshow's Fife and Drum collection, and he seemed to really appreciate them, even if he hasn't taken them out of the box.:lol

I wanted to do something special for my dad, and when I saw some old photos of my grandfather in uniform, I remembered that SS had produced a figure in this exact same uniform. I thought about just getting the figure, but when I saw what some of the guys around here are capable of, I knew I had to take it to the next level and try to get a custom portrait.

I began working with Darren around March, and we had been in communication throughout the whole process. Darren got the idea to make a custom hat, to match my grandfather's dress uniform, and while he wasn't sure how it would work, he was excited to try to do something special. Darren even found patches that match the rank my grandfather held. When Darren sent along pictures of the sculpt in progress, I was amazed at what he was creating. When he sent along pictures of the paintjob, I marveled at the detail. When I got the figure back in hand, I was absolutely floored. I can't begin to describe how amazing this figure is. Everyone who has seen it has been thrilled with the likeness, and I can't wait to give this figure to my dad on Christmas.

After this project, I got the idea to have Darren turn two of my friends who are big Star Wars into Jedi. He is currently taking some time to make these big SW fans and toy collectors into toys themselves. Darren is also creating something very near and dear to me: the Cake Topper for our wedding cake. I'll be sure to post more info as things settle down, and I can't wait to tell you all how my dad reacts. Thanks for all the cool feedback on this figure. Sorry for the essay, but this was hugely important to me!

First of all, congratulations on getting married, second, congratulations on that awesome present for your dad!

Stories like this make this hobby wonderful.

Thanks man! It's really collectors like everyone here that make this a great hobby. I really enjoy the positive vibe over here, even if I don't get around as much. And again, mucho thanks to Darren for sharing his tremendous talents!

Congrats Seaward!! I've seen pics of the figure Darren made for you and it is outstanding!! The thing looks like a perfect 3D representation of your grandfather's picture!

congrats on getting married and looking forward to hearing how the cake topper turns out.

Seaward, it was an absolute pleasure being part of this project with you. (it was hard, I won't lie about that) but something I already look back on with a smile and pride, and love telling my friends and family about... they ALL think it's an amazing thing, for you to have done as a gift, and for me to have had the chance to work on.

:bow :bow :bow

I can't wait to finish the other pieces for you, and for you to give the figure to your Dad :)

just a pic of the latest heads off the production line here :lol (albeit a very slow and meticulous production line, lol)

Pics of the painted battle-damaged Terminator head (test) should be up tomorrow hopefully. Trying to get it painted inbetween doing 2 custom head sculpts, weathering 2 Aragorn outfits, painting 12 heads (out of 44) and making Arnie head casts

anyone got any energy drink?

Hang in there Darren! Once again you've accomplished an incredible work on those Aragorns, the paint app is simply amazing:monkey5
Btw, you can count me in for the Arnie head cast!:rock:rock:rock

Dark Spidey, you're name's already on the list my friend :rock

it's not the best paint job, but it gets the point across, and to be honest I don't have time to spend on my own pet projects at the moment, so this was a rush job, done in spare minutes grabbed here and there.

It's having final touches put on now and will be varnished overnight, then it'll be dullcoted and have the eyes glossed in the morning. More photos then (with a better camera too, this was Jane's old camera under the desklamp.... urgh)

Right... .back to the commissions for me

(for anyone who was waiting, notes will be sent out about the Arnie heads in the morning... basically I'm making them as of today)

You're much too modest, Formerly HA, but that's one of the things we all love about you, next to your incredible work, that is. You must know that anyone who's seen this hastily painted head has already messed themselves and gone to clean up. All P!tu could do was cry tears of joy. And now, I believe I'll join him...
:monkey2:monkey2:monkey2:monkey2:monkey2

well, once again time got away from me with sculpting, and by the time I got around to the terminator head and got it done it was dark here... (and I still can't find my camera's battery charger... so i'm still on Jane's old camera... which can not deal with nighttime... or desklamps very well :lol)

anyway... here's a couple of snaps, I'll take better, closer, clearer ones once I got the Canon working again (and in daytime hopefully.... stupid winter nights)

EDIT: the photos didnt upload..... let me try and fix it :banghead

ok, my ISP host wont let me upload so i signed up to photobucket or whatever it's called, lol

That looks astounding, incredible work Darren.

You had already nailed the Arnie likeness perfectly and the battle damage and paint application really seals this as one of the best Terminator headsculpts ever :rock

That's an absolutely incredible looking Terminator portrait. I didn't realize you were so far along with it or I'd have gotten back to you sooner! I just hope it's not to late to secure one of those for myself.
