aw thanks about the Spock guys. seriously you all make me blush lol (siquisiri - glad you like the Ripley head!)

Here's something you don't usually see from the likes of Sideshow or Hot Toys too often, but I know you guys will be interested in it. I took photos as I was working my way through the sculpt through the weeks I was working on it. I won't be able to do this on every head I do, but I figured it would be interesting to see at least once.

Here's how it started out... a block of wax

SPOCKPROGRESS1.jpg

started adding a little shape to it by dropping melted wax onto it...

starting to resemble a face now, working on one side at first...

SPOCKPROGRESS3.jpg

the next few pics show the face slowly building up (the head next to it i was using as a size reference - was one of nanjin's early TOS heads before they made improvements to it)

getting closer now... still proportion changes to be made though. Not quite right yet...

SPOCKPROGRESS8.jpg

general shape much better now... time to start adding details and refining I think...

finished pics in the next post....

and finally (after a while lol) the finished head. Ignore the colour differences, that's just the wax. The longer I had it on the heat it the colour slightly changed from grey to greenish-grey. Obviously you don't see that once it's been molded though.

and then the painted up pic you've seen (more to come... eventually ;) ) - I hope that was a little interesting for some of you.

Darren that is just incredible man! You had it in you all along to do a full scratch sculpt my friend. If its ok to ask where did you purchase your wax from and what kind of wax is it? Im thinking of casting a few wips sculpts into wax to refine.

Thanks for the step by step photgraphs Darren, you've really put a lot of effort into it! How difficult was the wax to work with ? I've seen others use it but don't have the skills or talent ( unlike yourself ) to be able to pull something like this off.

That's cool , it really is.

Amazing job Darren!!. Best Spock sculpt I've ever seen to date. The progress pics are the most interesting of the process:naughty
