I say put them up on ebay Darren!
Maybe you can make good money off them, and they will probably go to someone who does appreciate them.
And I'm sure the honeymoon will bring more/better memories!

Oh, and sign me up for a Ripley!

Yup,i think lot of people will intrested in your prototype..include me for sure,..ofcourse if i can afford them..
Congratulation for your wedding darren!!Honeymoon only once in your life time, kinda BIG thing for me...just do something you wont regrets and worth you to do.

Although on the other hand, the honeymoon will be a memory you will take with you for the rest of your life and while you could always make another figure the two of you won't be going on another honeymoon together

yeah that's the 'for' argument I'm using... as long as I stop thinking of these figures as 'the first prototypes' and start thinking of them as 'just stuff', then it makes more sense to sell them... but only if it will be worthwhile.

Are one of those 4 Terminator full figures my battle damaged version :D

....yes ;)

Oh, and sign me up for a Ripley!

I agree with you about the memories. (and I'll let people know when the Ripley is up for pre-order)

Thanks Keith!

well... we went to the bank on Saturday to try to get a loan to pay for this Honeymoon we've been planning (the wedding we can pay for ourself... just, lol. But not the honeymoon)

....and they turned us down. Something bad on our credit file apparently. Needless to say this is a BIG setback, and without some serious magic.... this means the honeymoon we planned will not happen. (oh we'd still do something... maybe a weekend in New York, and do the big USA tour next year or the year after... but we wanted to do it the day after we got married!!)

so...... I've decided that in order to try to throw everything at this I WILL be selling everything I own (probably everything, lol). Master Replica props, toys, but more importantly... my 12" prototype figures. I was planning to keep these as they were all "firsts". (the first Anakin I ever did... first Obi-Wan... etc) and even though I've done more for other people since... these first ones from my personal collection were a bit special to me.

BUT.... i can always re-buy the standard SS figures next year or whenever and do new ones. So if it's worth my while they will be all for sale (as long as I'm not giving them away or anything...lol) . I'm not sure how yet... whether I'll set a price and see who wants what, or whether I'll stick them on ebay... haven't thought that far ahead yet. But unless something else happens, they'll all be going.

More news to come once I've sorted out what I'm doing :rock

Wow man... I'm so sorry. I hope it all works out. I really was pulling for you guys. Well, if you guys come to FL.... You've got help here! :rock

And selling the stuff, it's kinda liberating. I felt the same way about some of my things, but once they were gone... I found myself oddly happy.

And if you DO sell your stuff, I just want to show my heavy interest in the Terminator. I LOVE that freakin figure. :lol

Good luck bro, you guys will make it somehow. I'm still behind you.

If you guys swing through Salt Lake (which route has you doing) I can promise a fine Filipino meal. :)

Hope all goes well Darren, when me and wife wife got married we had to wait almost a year for our honeymoon, but it was worth the wait.

Good luck!!!!

F'n no good banks!!!! I tried to refinance my car a couple weeks ago to get the payments down and those bastards turned me down!!! ME!!!! They turned ME down!! I tired telling them I was The King Of Dakrness and they just asked me to leave.

I hope you get top dollar for your customs, they are awesome!

Regardless of how it turns out I'm sure your Honeymoon will be great.

So sorry to hear about the setback. If and when you do decide to sell the prototypes I think you should definitely put together a simple but nice certificate of authenticy. I will definitely be trying to pick one of these up if they ever do go on the block and it might be nice to have a little something to say what it is and have you sign it.

I'm not as concerned about making it 'authentic' but I think it's a nice touch to have the great artists on this board 'sign' their work somehow. It's a personal touch. I think Sideshow should do the same, actually.

Joe shmo on the street may not care to read it but I for one would display something like that next to the piece. I really miss they days when the Sideshow/Weta LOTR pieces had the signature stamps on the bottom. I like knowing who helps create this stuff.

Either way, I'm sure the trip will come together when the time is right. You deserve it.

i'm sorry to hear about your setback Darren. That really sucks. I know it must have been hard to make the decision to sell your figures, especially your prototypes. you really should be able to make a killing off of those on ebay. However, if you choose to sell on the boards, there are definitely a few there that I'd be interested in.

Good luck bro!

great to see you back into the full swing of things darren. looks like a busy schedule - try not to burn out. we can't lose you as well as Josh. i know from my design work that it's more important to enjoy things than to try and get things done. maybe that's why i'm so cantankerous when i'm pushed.

real shame about the bank loan. banks suck.
with this busy schedule, do you still think you'll be able to get the LOTR figs in? (planning on sending in the next few days, expecting aragorn any day now).

You should open a honeymoon donation pot. I know I would be willing to give you some dough for all the work you've done and making your custom sculpts available to all. Plus if you could save some of your original stuff, all the more better.

Yeah man, you definitely do that! I'm sure a lot of people would wanna help you out, including me!

Actually there IS a place to donate money for his honeymoon. It's in his sig, www.ouramericanhoneymoon.com

It's a great way to help our friend Darren get to his destination, I urge anyone who has the means to drop a bit in there for them. :peace

Firstly Josh, I just want to thank you because you've been so supportive of this Honeymoon plan of ours, paying attention to Jane's blog, leaving comments and even going so far as paying for 10 miles of travel on our road trip Honeymoon. So thank you sir.... :bow and we're not giving up... we'll make it somehow

Secondly...... sorry  but my Terminator figures are 2 that I'm not selling. I'm more confident that I can re-purchase SS Anakin, Obi-Wan, Luke, Maul, Qui-Gon, Aragorn, Legolas and Boromir figures when I need to build up my collection again... but those leathers for the Terminator figures are virtually impossible to find at the moment... (apart from the ones I already bought up for commissioned figures) so I wouldn't want to risk not being able to re-make myself the figure when the time came. So... Arnie will be staying here I'm afraid.

If you guys swing through Salt Lake (which route has you doing) I can promise a fine Filipino meal.

May take you up on that ;)

Yeah I will more than likely do something like that for each figure. Explaining that these were the prototypes I made for myself, and that they were part of my personal collection. The first ones made...... with a signature or something. I'll figure something out to go along with the figures.

Thanks about the trip :)

Thanks Neehar.... You're right it was a hard decision to sell my figures. I've always viewed these separately from commissioned pieces.... I made them for myself... the first times I made these customs, and they were the ones sat on my shelf. My own little museum pieces if you like.... so it was a hard choice.

But... if doing this helps the honeymoon become a reality.. then it will have been worthwhile! And you're right about the interest... i've already had quite a bit of interest in the figures even from that one post!!

we can't lose you as well as Josh.

Don't worry my friend, I'm not going anywhere... this is my life now ;) I'll be doing commissions till I'm old and grey.

(and your order is scheduled in on my waiting list.... so there's no problems there)

:eek::eek::eek:

guys I don't even know what to say to that..... you're all too generous for even thinking like that.

The funny thing is though (and Josh knows this) we kind of HAVE set up a honeymoon donation pot, through the website we set up to explain to people about our plans - www.ouramericanhoneymoon.com . We're printing and sending out our invites this week to the people who are turning up on the day to the wedding. Family, friends, work colleagues etc... and as we've been living together for almost 12 years now... we don't need any traditional wedding presents (toaster, kettle etc) as we already have everything we need. So we're asking anybody who WAS thinking of getting us a gift... to use that same amount and buy us 'miles' across America.

Unlike a cutlery set, or a toaster.... (things like this eventually break.. are lost.. get thrown away etc) ... the memories from this 4 week, 7000 mile trip across the States coast to coast in a 30 foot RV seeing some of the most amazing places... these memories will last us a LIFETIME. So we feel it's a much better wedding gift than a new picture frame or something.

On that website of ours, we set up I guess you could call them donation buttons.... where people can gift us 10 miles, 20 miles, 30 miles etc... essentially people can pay for a section of the trip. Could be driving through the grand canyon... could be monument valley... yosemite national park.... could be anywhere. But they will be paying for a section of it.

And this way our family and friends can choose how much they wanted to contribute, if anything (we're not forcing people to do this, lol... just those who would've been getting us something anyway)

but.... and i guess by your comments above (and Josh already) you've proved that it's not only family and friends attending on the day who have thought about helping us. We've had miles donated by people we know from all over the world.... so I guess there's hope for us yet

(especially if I sell everything I own..... well, apart from those Terminator figures. No Josh you can't have those!!) lol

dammit, you must have posted that as I was typing my big long multi-quote reply :lol:rotfl:lol

thanks Josh... .I can't tell you what it means to us how much help you've been (and are still being)

:D No problem at all Darren, you've been a class act to me since the day you arrived and watching your development into the custom artist you are today... it's been an honor. I'm glad to help and I hope to help even more eventually. :duff

And I totally understand about the Terminator. :lol

I had to cancel my intentions on building one of my own. Can't find a leather jacket to save my life. So I just sold the parts and am focusing on other things.

Besides, it's awesome that you are keeping that one yourself. It was an achievement in more than one way. One of the best damn customs I have ever seen, I'm glad it will be staying on your shelf... where it belongs!

I just bought you ten miles Darren. :peace

Hope all goes well, and you don't have to sell off so much.
Glad you are keeping your Terminator. You did do a great job on it.

I'm thinking....I wonder if I can get to New Orleans when you get there. Or Memphis. Love that town. They are having a flood these days, the Mississipi is overflowing, so hope all works out.
Whatever the case, I'd love to meet you two.
Good luck with it all. :rock
