You gotta look at Darth Maul as an art piece

Sorry I don't buy this argument. Of anything produced by SS I would say the faux bronze alien is the closest thing to an art piece I have seen. This is meant to be a hyper realistic recreation of an existing design and it fails at that in my book, at least in terms of proportion and the saber thickness. Justifying the price by calling it an art piece is like realtors touting square footage in an overpriced home. Sorry, not meaning to come down on the poster here but I find the price somewhat insulting and the eagerness of some to part with (possibly hard earned) money troubling. I see this as the fastlane to building a noteworthy collection, one that takes only money and no passion, thought, hard work, or networking. At the end of the day you are short 20k and have a collection of mass produced made in China 'collectibles' that's indistinguishable from the other guy's. I'm not knocking made in China junk, but I prefer mine of the dollar store pricing structure. I mean do we think the clothing on these won't be made in the same factories as Ron Jon 3/$10 t shirts or Nike sweat shop sneakers?? If these were made in house by professional movie tailors or something then I get the high price but otherwise...

What's it to you if he wants to think of his collection as art or this piece as art? Also why is it any worry to you what any of us do with our money? In the end as long as people are happy with their collections I don't think they will care what you think of them.

The post said I have to look at Maul as an art piece. I am explaining why I think this isn't a good strategy. Your comment is completely empty of content and typical of your feel good approach to things. Yes, yes, collect what you like and don't care what others think. We all get trophies for trying, no one's a loser here, etc., etc. I'm much more analytical than that and if I'm the bad guy for telling a teenager or 20 something not to fall for this marketing then so be it. But hey if you got the income and seek praise from people online for spending a lot of money then go for it. But don't kid yourself into thinking a bunch of stuff from SS is the be all of pop culture collectibles. Like I said, for 200 bucks knock yourself out, but for 2000 dollars the game is different.

Man, you take yourself way too seriously. :lol

For 200 bucks the world's one big joke fest, for 2 grand I stop laughing and get serious. So yeah I do get serious when certain amounts of money are involved.

And this is coming from the king of the 'buy what you like' approach to collecting - see my sig :)

2k is a lot of money but in the end as long as I'm happy with what arrives thats all that matters.

Seems to me like you're just bitter because this is out of your price range. If someone can drop $2k like they drop $200, WTF is it to you? It's not your money, you didn't earn it, and you have no place telling people how to spend it. Let alone telling a business how much they can charge for something. If you don't like it, don't buy it. You can say, "Wow, well out of my pricerange!" but trying to overlord someone because they can afford it and you can't, that's bull____ (and frankly trolling). If you can't afford it, don't whine about it. Let it go. :huh

Sorry I can't accept you calling this trolling. I made valid points about collecting and you assumed I couldn't afford it and was jealous and bitter. My avatar covers two of these Maul statues so its not a matter of affording it. So try again Bub (great movie) ;)

Seriously where's the value added? Why isn't this just a big PF?

i believe the value is in the details… the boots and gloves look like miniatures of the prop… not sculpted or cast, they look like actual clothing. every seam appears to be where it should be. the clothing / robe is just as impressive… they appear not only to be actually wearable, but functional. if anything, this figure has a "museum maquette" type quality to serve as the perfect Maul template.

Making valid points is one thing. Reiterating them time and again, and berating people who are buying this, or considering it, is trolling. You've made your points and made it clear you won't be buying this. No need to try again. :wink1:

What is your Avatar and why is it worth spending 4k on? It looks like some armored dude on a horse nothing something I'd want to spend 4k on.

So on one hand you don't know what it is which then leads to not wanting to spend 4k on it? Makes sense Josh. :slap

If that "armored dude" had the letters LOTR stamped on it, you'd be praising it to high heaven. :lol

I'm pretty sure this was my first post on this thread.:dunno

Ironically it is LOTR but its not stamped with anything, that's the point.

Here's a better pic. Its probably one of the coolest pieces I've ever seen, watercolor and ink washes, original ringwraith concept art by Mike Ploog.

Back to Maul (sorry for the derail).

I can't believe that an edition size not being announced would prevent anyone for ordering. Its quite obvious that being $2000 sets a bar pretty low on the number of people that would order it. Setting a cap on production now would possibly commit the fatal error of creating too many and thus stick SSC with merchandise. I think it would be an epic success for SSC to sell 1000 of these. I just don't see it happening. So to a collector contemplating the purchase now, would knowing it was 1000 edition size vs 500 make a difference in ordering? I don't think so, if you like it and can afford it.
