Re: DC's "Suicide Squad" (August 5th, 2016)

meh...Ledger ripped off Tom Waits.

I wonder if he really used that Tom Waits interview as a basis for his Joker? I had no idea who Tom Waits was until I saw that interview, and Ledger never mentioned Waits in the few interviews he gave prior his death. The voice is similar, although Ledger's had more range, but they are very similar. Also, Tom Waits was in Ledger's last film, so is that another coincidence or was Ledger a fan of the guy? We'll never know. :gah:

No one made the tom waits connection until someone pointed out.

Never heard of Waits before. Watched an interview from 1979 that he did and sure enough Ledger Joker sounds just like him. I think Ledger must have been a huge fan of the guy because I remember watching a video of Ledger when he was younger, hanging out with friends and his mannerisms were very much like Waits'.

I've seen other interviews with Waits and his voice changed a lot after that 79 interview for some reason, so I wonder if Ledger saw that 79 interview? Either way, it doesn't matter to me if he used Waits' voice. Most actors based some of their characters in real people too. I wish Leto could just pick a voice and be consistent though.

Re: DC's "Suicide Squad" (August 5th, 2016)

Ledger based elements of his voice on a ventriloquist dummy, to try and give it a sort of disembodied feel. Hence the rising and falling of tone.

I think the Waits thing is a pure coincidence but we will never know.

How is it that a cheap little parody cartoon manages to have a better ending than SS and BvS?
