Re: David Ayer's Oscar nominated "Suicide Squad"

Should have given him Blackhawk.
He can apparently do a good World War II movie, though I haven't seen Hacksaw Ridge. I would like to see him handle Hawkman, who in recent years has been portrayed as a violent bad ass. Could channel Mad Max.

Re: David Ayer's Oscar nominated "Suicide Squad"

It seems like a lot of people passed on Hacksaw Ridge. It was my second favorite film of the year and my pick for Best Picture.

Re: David Ayer's Oscar nominated "Suicide Squad"

I have no problems with Gibson directing a CBM, but I don't think there is anyway he'll do it unless he has complete control. He's not the kind of guy that's going to take studio interference well--and he's proved he doesn't need studio input so they should give him full reign.

Re: David Ayer's Oscar nominated "Suicide Squad"

Honestly, I can't see any major comic production company giving a director complete control. In fact, you can probably count on one hand the number of big-time directors who really get cart blanche freedom (I would guess Spielberg, Fincher, Woody Allen, Cronenberg, the Coens), and most of those won't get hundred million dollar plus budgets. More freedom than your Zach Snyders? Perhaps.

Re: David Ayer's Oscar nominated "Suicide Squad"

True, but can you imagine Gibson letting a studio **** with one of his films to the degree that WB has ****ed with BvS and Suicide Squad? No way.

Re: David Ayer's Oscar nominated "Suicide Squad"

I could see Gibson agreeing to SS 2 and letting the studio muck with it if it's part of a deal that will save him from having to fund The Passion 2 all by himself again. In fact that's the only scenario where any of these rumors make sense to me.

I would put nothing past those bumbling buffoons sitting at WB's boardroom :lol I imagine their minutes read like a transcript from a Three Stooges movie.

Re: David Ayer's Oscar nominated "Suicide Squad"

I actually wasn't the biggest fan of Hacksaw Ridge, but if there's any superhero movie I think he would have been perfect for to direct it would have been Logan. Mel's movies while violent, usually have a lot of heart and honest drama, Suicide Squad doesn't seem like a good fit for him. Somebody like George Miller I think is better suited for Suicide Squad.

Nah, the one character Gibson is perfect for is Nick Fury. MAX, Steranko, Hikcman, WWII, no matter the version, he's the one character that he'd nail.

You don't say! :lol

;)

:lol :lol

I know I'm gaining that reputation around here, but I have to be honest.

There were a lot of movies I enjoyed this year. My favorite being Manchester by the Sea and I expect most people here will probably hate it.

:lol :lol

It certainly wasn't fun but I thought it was a great movie.

Re: David Ayer's Oscar nominated "Suicide Squad"

Someone needs to start a SS2 thread- Gibson directing it- I love it- doubt it's true

Re: David Ayer's Oscar nominated "Suicide Squad"

I tried making it through Manchester by the Sea but after sitting through 10 full minutes with the camera sitting perfectly still and not a single quip or bit of CGI I stood up and said "what is this ****!" and stormed out of the theater.

Re: David Ayer's Oscar nominated "Suicide Squad"

Oh man, you missed it. In minute 11 the world ends in a meteor storm and people turn into zombies and that Casey dude goes through hell. Or something like that... I might have fallen asleep and dreamt that part.

Shoot. Probably had an awesome post credits scene too. :(
