Re: DC Collectibles doing Batman The Animated Series figures!!!!!

Oh, and one more thing, no coat tails.

I really don't get this one, especially after they nailed Robin.

No,the short coattails are fine. They got rid of the long coat tails on the show, which is why the Kenner figure didn't have long coat tails. So the new figure got that right.

Re: DC Collectibles doing Batman The Animated Series figures!!!!!

Yeah, they're taking a lot of polls and opinions from the fans right now, I bet if a lot of us pointed at the inaccuracies (provided they're not intentional) we could get some response.

Is there a link? Because I would be more than happy to show them all the inaccuracies.

Re: DC Collectibles doing Batman The Animated Series figures!!!!!

Here's a photoshop I did real quick. I messed with a few things here and there, including the head, mouth and colors. I think it's better and more representative of the show, I dunno, maybe I'm nuts.

Re: DC Collectibles doing Batman The Animated Series figures!!!!!

:goodpost: That looks good. The orange vest needs to change. The brighter colors make it look better and the lips look good. The gloves could go either way because the show wasn't very consistent, sometimes they were white and sometimes sort of bluish. The lack of color on the figure could be as a result of the quality of the picture, but the bright colors look good :)

Re: DC Collectibles doing Batman The Animated Series figures!!!!!

I think they skipped the V-cut on the shirt intentionally, since that's where the wast swivel is.

@The Clown Prince of Crime , well they have specific polls about which figure we want next and how much articulation to put on them, but I methinks facebook and twitter might work for some more specific requests.

Let me know if you decide to contact them, I'll chime in.

Re: DC Collectibles doing Batman The Animated Series figures!!!!!

I don't have a twitter account, but I can post on their facebook page and send them a message. If have to I'll open a twitter account and contact them.

Re: DC Collectibles doing Batman The Animated Series figures!!!!!

Me too, I know everybody hate on the redesigns but I like them very much, I like the simple and over-stylized look of almost every TNBA character.

Re: DC Collectibles doing Batman The Animated Series figures!!!!!

I hope we get the 1992 Batman this Friday, but I'm thinking that we might get Harley because we are getting Ivy and Joker in wave 2, and it would make sense for her to be included in that wave, but I hope I'm wrong, because if not, that's going to mess-up my whole Friday :lol

Whoever it is will be BTAS. :yess:

I think those of you saying the shirt is wrong could do with re-watching a few of the Joker episodes....

It was only in the initial promo artwork that Joker had a V on the bottom of his shirt and long coat tails. In every animated episode he had short coat tails, white gloves and a straight line at the bottom of the shirt.

So DCC actually got the body pretty much accurate to the show. In fact, it looks to me that they likely based the figure off this promo artwork here:

If DCC had posed their figure in the promo pic with his arm on his hip it would look very, very close to the above picture. Perhaps that's what they were going for. The shoulders and elbows do seem sculpted in such a way that they'd look more streamlined if his arms were posed out with his hands on his hips.

Granted, the figure's head does still look a little off in the promo picture. Hopefully it's just the angle though. Only time and more photos will tell, but maybe he'd look better with the head tilted up a little more.

But anyway, the body looks perfectly fine to me... I just think DCC didn't do a very good job of showing it off in the promo pic. they should have posed the arms better to give him a more classic animated Joker look!

The socks are wrong too!

Just kidding. The Joker nit-picking and diagrams are reaching Ledgerian proportions. :lol

Agreed... I think the body looks perfectly fine and pretty accurate to the actual show appearance, he just isn't posed well.

As for the head... the pics posted in this thread illustrate how it isn't one set length when it comes to the teeth. They are all over the place as to how much teeth are showing. Plus, we are seeing it from a dead-on front angle. Animation allows a character to be drawn multiple ways from multiple angles... but translating that into a three dimensional sculpt means choosing one angle and making the rest try to fit with it. It is very possible that when we get a look at Joker from the side, he will look much more in-line with what you guys are expecting him to be.

Re: DC Collectibles doing Batman The Animated Series figures!!!!!

I'd rather there be a fiedelity to the initial character model (like the Kenner figure and maquette statue), than the animation in the show. The animation studios ended up getting lazy when it came to the appearance of the Joker (hence the tucked in shirt and inconsistent facial features). Look at Bruce Timm's art of The Joker, or the Batman Adventures comic, the Joker is far superior to the shoddy animation from those production studios . . . and the Timm/Batman Adventures art all had the v shaped vest and perfect face.

BTAS Joker was animated horribly in the initial run. He looked goofy and odd in just about every episode, the worst probably being The Joker's Wild. It wasn't until Mask of Phantasm where the Joker actually looked great (thanks to a theatrical feature length film).

So I guess in regards to the shows faults, this figure is accurate, but who wants that? It'd be like accepting a Batman that looked like this in figure form,

That's not what we want is it? We want that sleek maquette/model sheet that the characters are based on.

And the headsculpt is off. If it was just the angle, then the Joker's huge pointed nose should be over his upper lip. I mean, his head is tilted down looking at the camera right? The mouth and shape of the head are really odd.

Wow - you certainly have a bee in your bonnet about this shirt thing!

"show's faults"? They chose not to have the shirt untucked, is that really a fault? A way to shorten drawing time perhaps, but not a fault I'd say. And you'd seriously prefer to have the DCC figure reflect the early promo artwork as opposed to how he actually looked in the show??? That's crazy! Do you really feel that way, or is your ego too bruised to admit you were wrong because you tried to correct a 'flaw' with a manip on a figure that didn't actually have said flaw?

As for the face, yeah I think a few of us here do agree it looks off. But I'm waiting for more pics personally before I have a solid opinion about it.

Re: DC Collectibles doing Batman The Animated Series figures!!!!!

I know I'm in the minority and will get flamed all to hell for this, but I just think the articulation lines ruin the sculpts. Kinda like the old McFarlane stuff where useless joints would break up sculpts and then they just started making statues.

These figures are beautiful though. Look how on-model Robin is!!! So much better than that recycled "Batman Returns" Robin Kenner made.

But especially for the New Adventures designs, I really think less is more. The thin, tapered legs on Batman, Freeze, and Two-Face don't need all those joints all over them. I think I'll just be content with my old Kenner figures.

Cause yeah...it's tempting to get a Batman. But then I'd want BOTH versions. And then I'd want the Rogues. And before I know it...I'd have to have them all. And for me that's just not practical, especially if I'm not in love with the character or the execution.

But seriously....how can you look at these and not want to be a completist with the ENTIRE line?

I think I'm just going to have to admire this one from afar like I did with MOTUC. So everyone, please take lots of good pics for me to enjoy!

Re: DC Collectibles doing Batman The Animated Series figures!!!!!

I'm not a fan of the articulation on these figures. They really take away from the figures but I would rather have articulation then no articulation. I just wished they would have hid them a little bit better.

Re: DC Collectibles doing Batman The Animated Series figures!!!!!

@Sfa

Woah, why are you getting so touchy? I mean no harm man. My ego, feelings of being "wrong"? What? I'm just saying, overall this figure could/should look a hell of a lot better than it is and I illustrated how and why. All the other figures (save for maybe Catwoman and her brows) are spot on, why not the Joker?

DC Collectibles made the claim that these are based off of Bruce Timm's designs (even going as far as getting input from him personally). I can tell you right now that his designs never looked like the ones above, nor did the promotional art from DC's in house designers or the Batman Adventures comics. I don't even care about the coat tails because they interfere with the aesthetics and articulation of the figure (not to mention they might have implemented the short ones anyway). The headsculpt and v shaped Vest though, yeah, that's a little important to me. Like I said, it's not flawed perse, but they are basing it off flawed, cheap animation. I much prefer a fidelity to the originals, which to me, are the superior designs (especially if the intent is to make "Bruce Timm" styled figures as opposed to Dong Yang Akom or Spectrum Studios ones). I mean DC collectibles had no problems with that beautiful maquette statue (other than the hair), right? Why be inconsistent here?

I feel the same way. Some of the articulation on these figures really spoils the flow of the designs. Most especially the t-hinge joints in the thighs, they're just so glaringly obvious. I'd have prefered just the basic single joint on the thighs for this line, but oh well! I'm just happy they didn't add ab-crunch joints on them!
