Re: DC Collectibles doing Batman The Animated Series figures!!!!!

Irene Matar strikes again.

Nothing personal, I'm sure she's a very nice person but her work has damaged the line so much for me. And it always seemed the animated style was easiest to sculpt and translate to 3D. I'm definitely passing on this Batgirl. It does nothing for me as much as I'd like to get it.

Agree, animated series is not impossible to sculpt, indipendent artist are able to do it. Why people who get paid for NO? Unfair world... T.T
Check this guy work, if he was in charge we had no problems with headsculpt :D

Re: DC Collectibles doing Batman The Animated Series figures!!!!!

Both have had their hits and misses in the line, but I do feel that between Irene Matar and Gentle Giant, she's definitely been more inconsistent at translating the source material into three dimensions.
True but of the two hasn't she been the one to sculpt about 90% of the figures? She should have more misses than GG. I wish she didn't though lol

Batgirl and Lois are duds. :(

Re: DC Collectibles doing Batman The Animated Series figures!!!!!

Between Irene and gentle giant, I prefer irene. nightwing and robin, specially nightwing are kinda off to me, didn't like what gentle giant did there, hell, Kenner's figures look better. Of course, both have their hits and misses, BTW, Irene matar will be here in mexico city next month, looking forward to meet her

Re: DC Collectibles doing Batman The Animated Series figures!!!!!

Saw Batgirl today and was ready to buy but ended up leaving her on the shelf. She looks so off and not worth paying full price. Head, hair, face, and body - all of it is wrong.

Well done BTAS Harley Quinn you are no longer the worst looking figure in the line!

Re: DC Collectibles doing Batman The Animated Series figures!!!!!

Good. You can ask why so many of her sculpts are off model.

Re: DC Collectibles doing Batman The Animated Series figures!!!!!

I've been so bored the last months with no new figures (thank God for Batgirl next week), that I started to think of some mods to make.

I thought of how Talia would look in an all-black costume. You know, what we actually see on screen is black. And if those purple highlights were an indicator that her costume was supposed to be "dark purple", then, by that logic, Batman and the Batmobile should both be "dark blue" (due to the blue highlights), and we know they're actually black. Plus, Alfred says "the lady in black". So, I decided to paint her fully black.

At first, I thought she looked weird all black, because I was so used to her being purple and there's never been a collectible of her in fully black costume (the Diamond statue is purple and that Kenner figure is lilac) for comparison "in real life". But after a few days, I started to get used to it and the idea of her costume in the show/story being actually black just helped me get used to it.

What do you guys think? You think this is how she's supposed to look? You can be honest, really.

Re: DC Collectibles doing Batman The Animated Series figures!!!!!

Absolutely - amazing the difference improved paint apps make. I almost think more than the sculpts, the paint apps let the figures down.

Lois' eyes, Bullock's eyes, BTAS Joker's eyes (a pattern is emerging here), Scarecrow in general, Two Face's eyebrow, Man Bat being too dark, Supes's blue being too light, Talia, and the list goes on...

Re: DC Collectibles doing Batman The Animated Series figures!!!!!

Let's be fair: Unless you're looking at Irene's finished sculpts, you're looking at a mass manufactured *******ization of her work, corrupted by changing factory environments, material shrinkage, inconsistent paint apps, and other factors. I've no doubt she could deliver a spot-on sculpt but that doesn't mean DCC will allow her to (regarding Batgirl's hair) or that China can deliver.

Hi Irene :p

No, her work looks mediocre to bad at the prototype level. In fact, I'd say DCC is very good at delivering a final, manufactured product that closely matches the prototype pictures that are used in solicitations. And that goes for their other more detailed figures and statues. But when it comes to Irene's work, there are issues evident from the very beginning that have nothing to do with the factors you listed. For instance, Batgirl's issue isn't solely her hair, but the accuracy of the sculpt itself. The Diamond statues aren't perfect, but looking at the Batgirl they have coming out, they're definitely a lot closer than Irene's work imo.

Re: DC Collectibles doing Batman The Animated Series figures!!!!!

I was just going to mention the Diamond statue being a much better representation to Batgirl. The figure is too lengthy. Even if she is shorter to say Catwoman the proportions seem off. When people discuss scale they usually mention height but it is relative proportion to other characters that also matter. Supergirl is the perfect example of a figure that might be in proportion to itself (minus that huge noggin) but is arguably out of scale to Superman.
