Re: DC Collectibles doing Batman The Animated Series figures!!!!!

@sfa it is not super useful but it's great addition ^^

Joker looks horrible. I thought the head on the prototype was bad, but the final production head looks even worse. I don't see how they botched that sculpt/paint job. Also, it's not like these figures require complex paint applications. How hard is it to get nice, clean and crisp paint apps on figures that are based on streamlined, minimalist animation? Kenner and Hasbro did it in the 90s? Star Wars POTF2 was one of the most expansive lines from the 90s and you rarely saw any problems with the paint or quality control on those figures, from human faces with small eyes to complex aliens. Joker has 6 colors at most and doesn't require any washes or paint techniques. Back in the early 2000s companies like Toy Biz had much more complex 6" figures with their comic and movie lines and they were painted MUCH better.

There's no reason why the production figure can't match that prototype above. No reason at all. Atleast they're not breakable or have hip holes like Wave 1 (I'll take messy paint apps over breakages) but still. It'd be nice to walk into a comic store and not have to check for "bad" looking figures.

I'm sure there will be more BTAS Joker figure variations down the line, so it's not that bad I guess. I'm glad they hit Man-Bat out of the park. That looks like the best in the line so far.

I really want bats animated series joker, best joker ever. Please somebody make it happen

Re: DC Collectibles doing Batman The Animated Series figures!!!!!

Joker's head is definitely a disappointment, but I like everything else, so, I'll probably pick him up. That's one of the things that I love about this line being episode specific, though. There are plenty of other variations they can do if they want to take a second crack at it.

Re: DC Collectibles doing Batman The Animated Series figures!!!!!

So I had a go an my Joker! I re sclupted the nose and jaw line making the cheeks more visible. I cut the top part of his lip making the smile bigger and showing more teeth on top and I also re sculpted the hair a bit. I painted the entire head white and I will be painting the details soon. I think it looks ok so far but I will post some photos when ready.

Re: DC Collectibles doing Batman The Animated Series figures!!!!!

Nice! I can't wait to see it. All of your other stuff has been amazing, so, I'm sure he'll be no exception!

Thanks for the pics, sfa. :wave

Judging from that pic, it seems it's the same sculpt. Just the bad factory paint is messing it up.

- the green part of the hair are crooked and not in line like the proto
- the green part of the hair isn't matte while the proto is
- the eye shape is wrong
- the teeth isn't painted neatly. It's too crooked.

I think I can do some stuff to fix it. I'll pick him up as soon as he's available locally and see what I can do.

Re: DC Collectibles doing Batman The Animated Series figures!!!!!

Eye color is wrong too. It's different from the proto.

What's with the neckline though? The proto looks like it's a removable, separate piece. While the one in final looks like it's sculpted with the torso.

Looks like it originally had a sculpted, ball jointed neck so you could tilt his head front and back like the model sheets.

For whatever reason, it looks like they canned it.

They have one less mold to make. Money saved.

And less headache of breakage Problems too. :lol

Re: DC Collectibles doing Batman The Animated Series figures!!!!!

ok, so here is The Joker! :)

I'm still working on the paint job so any feedback would be appreciated. What do you guys think? (painting the teeth was the biggest pain!)

Re: DC Collectibles doing Batman The Animated Series figures!!!!!

Damn, that looks awesome, zelu! Especially that last shot.

Re: DC Collectibles doing Batman The Animated Series figures!!!!!

MUCH better! We should send you our Joker heads for makeovers.

OMG I love that joker...

Re: DC Collectibles doing Batman The Animated Series figures!!!!!

Very nice, Zelu :clap

I think the gap between each tooth is to wide though. Perhaps use a smaller, finer paint brush to make the black lines?

Re: DC Collectibles doing Batman The Animated Series figures!!!!!

That looks awesome Zelu! :D The top red lip really helps a lot. You must have a very steady hand!!

Re: DC Collectibles doing Batman The Animated Series figures!!!!!

any photos of the side of the proto btw?

It seems the reason why the proto looks better is because theres more teeth and less lips, as opposed to the final production which have more lips on the corner of the mouth.

Re: DC Collectibles doing Batman The Animated Series figures!!!!!

Thanks guys! and cheers for the feedback!

@Hydeous I tried to make the teeth lines thinner but after multiple attempts to draw the thin, straight lines I gave up and compromised with the below (anyway the lines are thinner to what they were before :) )

Re: DC Collectibles doing Batman The Animated Series figures!!!!!

I can see that. :rock

Is there any chance to paint the skin tone btw? He looks white sometimes, but he also look kinda ice blue ish at time. I'm gonna paint mine with that tone.
