That's a good point.. If I look at this film from a Studio / Theatrical release then yeah.. It did not play it safe and was more hard core then most for sure.

It was like a couple who saw the movie with us joked about in the elevator, everyone walked out all somber out of the theater, yet if it was a marvel movie everyone would had been happy, i told her well honestly i was still processing the movie since it left that much of an impact so yeah give me a bit and laughed it off, but still, this is a movie you need to see to believe

Hmmmm I must see too many movies... I did not see where the film was all that hard core.

Personally I think its a tad overrated by many here but that is just my personal taste and its great that people love it.

For me the final 5 min saved the movie. Had it ended right when we saw all the TV screens (like I thought it might) I actually would have left the film kinda pissed. But the final 5 to 10 min really helped this film for me. The saying "A film is only as good as its ending" really stood true for me here.

Trailers showed way to much also :(
I?ve seen movies that were way more hard core, but were talking about a comic movie where I thought they were gonna play it semi safe, so there?s that. And as far as somebody like me overrating any movie, it?s not likely. I go to the movies twice a week every week, and watch more at home, so I know what I like and have a decent understanding of them and am very critical if anything. I would challenge any film maker to tackle a joker movie and go this deep. It?s pretty hard core for a comic movie.

I can hardly wait to see it. Everything everyone is saying sounds absolutely perfect. This is exciting ****!!!! I think we got a classic on our hands.

I'm kind of excited to see it now also. I had dismissed it as a rental at best when I saw the preview and based on my love for Ledger's version from TDK. Sounds like I might have to hit the theater for this one.

I guess I went into it knowing it was not going to be a comic book movie. I got exactly what I thought it was advertising.

I am not singling you out.. And saying that people are overrating something is my just how I see it so please don't take it personally. Its not just people here. Its many of the critics also... I mean.. Best movie of the year talk is being thrown around. IDK.. Maybe.. I just was not as blown away as everyone else.. I dont feel like this was next level stuff. Even for a comic movie.

Its unique in that it is a DC property and I would love to see more of this non canon type stories...

The film did not IMO have a ton to offer except for a great performance by the lead actor. Its worth seeing for that. But if not for the final 5 min of the film
Basically everything after he shot shot the TV host.
I really would have been disappointed as nothing came as a surprise or shocking to me. As i said it was a bit too much like King of Comedy and some of the things that were supposed to be a twist I saw coming..

However The end really did pull it all together and made me appreciate all that came before.

I did like the film... But all time classic or best film of the year?? I dont know..

Might go take my son later this week... That will be a true test for me.

Saw this last night. Good movie! That Childrens Hospital scene was Hilarious lol

Good movie with an epic ending, considering where the character started and the fact it's a small scale film. It's very artsy and slow, but I was expecting that. JP is great as Arthur/Joker.

I haven't seen it but for those who have - unavoidably there is the question of should this Joker ever meet Batman? Or should it remain a standalone one and done movie - perhaps not even getting another 'solo' Joker sequel.

I had a feeling that would be the case. However it might be frustrating in the future if, say, R-Batz ended up being a really great Batman in a great Batman movie and you look across the way and there's a really great Joker and yet never shall they meet....

It might be interesting to see the grown Bruce Wayne of this universe. There are interesting suggestions about that nature v. Nurture aspect of mental illness that could make a unique Bat story. But again that would mean defining some of the interesting hints dropped in Joker.

Edit: interesting interesting interesting

Been a long day.

If Hot Toys does this Joker I'm totally in.

And the scene that this song played it was Sweeeeeet.

They used a Gary Glitter song? I'm surprised I haven't heard anything about that amongst all the controversy.

:lol

I'm constantly going back to edit posts where I've used the same word repeatedly in close proximity. Always seem to miss them in my initial proofread.

As far as them taking this Joker any further - the other big question is would Joaquin Phoenix be willing to do it. Quite possibly not.

I think Batman could work in the same way this Joker works. Another damaged person resorting to violence for release. The idea of a guy dressed in a bat suit chasing people in this universe’s style would be terrifying.

I just don’t want any more concrete information about Fleck. I don’t even care about the authorial intention. I’d rather savor the blur.

There's a 60s bat cave reference in the film. A low tech Batman or Casey Jones style vigilante could work visually, but no guy in a rubber suit will fix the real world problems presented in the film, so Batman would be pointless, even as a symbol. I like how the filns shows how someone like Arthur can realistically become the "hero" and villain that Gotham needs and deserves. There's just no need for a sequel or Batman, imo.
