I picked up Action Comics, Men of War, Justice League International, and Swamp Thing. I may go back for Detective and Batgirl tomorrow. My favorite was definitely Men of War, as it was the most well paced of the bunch, featured great writing, and great art. Easily a 9/10, with Action following with 8.5/10. Swamp Thing, surprisingly, was my least favorite of the bunch.

Detective Comics #1 blew Action Comics #1 out of the water. Let's not sugarcoat it.

Just downloaded DC #1 here are work. My first digital download...I miss handling a comic but it's handy to purchase and can read it anywhere on my Iphone. Hope they come down on the price though.

DC #1 is pretty good so far...only about halfway through it. I'll prob download Batman 1 and see how that one is as well.

I honestly don't know how anyone can really enjoy Action #1. Superman is almost as big a ****** as Hal was in JL #1.

And it just dawned on me... 2 weeks and over a dozen books into this New 52 thing and so far the two weakest/worst ones were flagship titles written by Grant Morrison & Geoff Johns. Interesting. Let's hope that's an anomaly, for obvious reasons.

So Batman and Green Lantern are pretty much moving forward business as usual with very little, if any change in past events, except for making them happen in a shorter amount of time. Is that more or less correct?

Yes. Batman and GL weren't touched at all and Johns I know for GL has exclusivity in how the origins would be altered if at all.

Slightly bigger. I don't know why but this vigiliante thing on Clark just doesn't sit well, Morrison even went overboard making Smallville look reserved. At least Hal was supposed to be a drunken hotshot pilot, Clark is the Big Blue Boy Scout and removing that element while interesting and probably more realistic just didn't sit well. I'm interested to see the progression.

I'm surprised no one is discussing this lady here:

She makes appearances in Justice League #1, Animal Man #1, Hawk And Dove #1, Justice League International #1, Action Comics #1, confirmed to be in Voodoo #1....

Bleeding Cool is tracking her too:

Picked up Swamp Thing and Detective Comics yesterday. Only got a chance to read Swamp Thing so far, but it was great Snyder never lets me down.

I had decided to drop DC completely when I heard about the reboot. I didn't even bother with stuff from June to August. However, curiosity got the better of me so I did check out a few titles today. Green Arrow was awful. I hate the redesign of Ollie. 'Tec was okay, I might wait it out for the trade for the rest of the story. The other titles seemed just okay nothing really standing out. The shop didn't have Animal Man which seems to be getting good reviews.

Right now I think I'm going to stay away from the floppies for the DCnU and wait things out foolishly hoping that the old DCU will come back.:monkey2

So far, Ive read

JL #1- Seemed really rushed. dont like that its "5 years ago"

Green Arrow #1 - I liked it. The costume had a Smallville feel to it.

JLI- Honestly, cant remember what I read. It was that forgettable

Detective- It was ok. Guess I dont know anything about Dollface? Is that new or not?

Action- OK, here is what I dont get. If JL was 5 years prior, and superman already had his "superman" suit. How old is Action #1, if he is going around in a Tshirt and jeans?

Hawk & Dove -had a hard time finishing it. Liefelds art just seems to get worse and worse. Or it might be that Im not 17 anymore.

Batigrl, I really really liked. I like that Killing Joke still happened. And I just like the flow and the artwork. Its the one book, where I felt artwork and storyline were equal.

After Crisis on Infinite Earths in 1985: To help fans new and old alike understand the new merged earth DCu, a little 2 issue series called "History of the DC Universe" was released. Its now completely moot of course, but it was a great guide to the DCU for about 15-20 years. I hope they release something similar for the DCNu. Because right now, I am utterly confused as to what's happening when and which books are set in the past.

I want to enjoy what I buy....but my brain wants logic. If it were a complete reboot-- that wiped everything away and it all started over-- then I could follow it all. But I am currently left trying to figure out timelines, what happened and what didnt and whether or not Detective Comics is set in the past or not. I also wanna know why Jim Gordon has brown hair and appears younger in Batgirl (which is post Kiling Joke), but he was old, gray and wrinkly in Killing Joke. They still consider Killing Joke canon and part of the DCNu.

My brain hurts. It hasnt hurt this bad since BND/OMD and all that reconfiguring. Helps me!

New to comics... The closest I've been to them is stepping inside Hastings. I have a ton of newbie questions and would greatly appreciate anyone answering them here or in a PM as I'm interested in hitting up a comic book store tomorrow! The only thing I know about DC Comics or even Marvel has been exclusively from modern movies. (Superhero movies released about 2000 and later) Never watched anything Superman related, most of my batman experience has been the Nolan movies, and I think the Green Lantern film rounds out my DC knowledge. (I actually liked the idea behind his powers... Just didn't like the initial big head baddie)

1. What are some of the must have comics that have been rebooted?
2. How long is a comic book anyway?
3. How much should I expect to pay? I'd prefer to buy locally to help support the store.
4. Any great comic fan sites for both DC and Marvel? (Probably will wait/hope for a Marvel reboot)
5. Is Justice League basically the DC version of the Avengers? I saw a picture of a bunch of superheroes, but I only recognized a few of them.
6. Are all the comic stories interconnected? Like batman with batgirl comics? And even stuff like superman and batman comics since they both appear to be in the justice league? Or is each comic series a separate story, but the Justice League story also stands alone? Very confusing.

Thanks in advance!!

You'd probably be better off stepping foot in your local comic shop and thumbing through a few of the books. It'd answer every last one of your questions.

Got around to reading Detective Comics #1 tonight. I really enjoyed it. First Batman comic I have read in a long long time. I just cant wait for Batman #1 I have a feeling Snyder and Capullo are going to do a fantastic job. Is their anything new coming out next week that people would suggest for me? I really havent gotten into DC until just last week so I dont really know any of the characters in the DC universe.

1- Really Depends on Taste, try a few see what you like

2-Most comics are 30 pages 22 pages of story(20 for DC for 2.99 books) and can take anywhere from 5-10 minutes to read depending.

3-single issues run from 2.99-3.99 except for special cases like annuals or over-sized books.

4-Marvel Reboot likely won't happen on the same scale they tend to re-launch books at number 1 every year or so. Most major comic forums welcome fans of both companies I'd assume.

5-Basically yes

6-Not unless there is a story that is connecting them, you can safely read Batgirl and not have read a Batman comic ever and will know what's going on. Same goes for every other book, in some cases there will be a cross over event that spans multiple titles but in these cases they will usually let you know its happening.

Here is the New 52 checklist it gives you the date of release of all the new books for September. https://www.comicbreak.com/wordpress/wp-content/uploads/2011/08/DCNew52_Checklist.jpg

Awesome! Thanks!

3 more quick questions...

1. How often do new comics get released? Like 1 month between issues?

2. What's the difference between batman and detective?

3. Any sites that do a good job at getting good reviews up quickly? There are just so many heroes I apparently know zilch about!
