In my religion God says to punch Chase in the noggin and steal his collection if I ever get the chance.
Don't you mean to 'confiscate for the good of humanity'?
Man is self-interested and weak. Life is a constant struggle, and is "nasty, brutish, and short." What else is there to know?talk about overall human nature coming from.
:mad
I am disgusted with Roy.
You have quite a bit of insight, Gruesam
I do think it's worthy to note that many people point to Religion as being largely responsible for death and war. At the same time Communist regimes who espouse Atheism and secularism have slaughtered over 110,000,000 people all for the good of the common man.
This thread also serves to note that denial of human nature is futile. Good behavior is something that needs to be impressed each day, and things like daily prayer are constant reminders to keep ourselves in check.
It's also important to keep in mind that we always fall back on human nature, and complacency. Humans often hold Utopian ideals that are unrealistic and unattainable. The ideals in the America constitution, which are centered around religion, (Despite popular teaching, only Franklin and Jefferson could be classified as Deists and Jefferson had written many references to Christ as 'our savior'.) specifically that our rights were given to us by our creator and Nature's God. Otherwise if there was no creator, man has bestowed these rights and therefore man can rescind them. The only way to make people truly equal is to reduce them to the lowest common denominator. Human's need a tangible incentive to stay motivated despite what Gene Roddenbery hoped for. Without the ability to fail or succeed we become weak, complacent and on the path to extinction. The founding fathers had an astounding understanding of human nature and common sense, which is why the government was supposed to be limited and the rights of the individual were paramount.
What does it take for a human to interpret the words in the Bible? Which in turn were interpretations of the word of God... if they were at all, and not just the creation of man entirely.
I think man has a looooong way to go yet. We haven't seemed to learn much from the bloodshed of our past.
You ever play the game telephone? Sometimes when you play with someone the message gets screwed up within the first passing. So, that being the case I find it difficult that most of the Bible which was handed down orally before actually being scripted and passed along that way is to be taken literally. That it is to be taken as if it were divinely intercepted is laughable. I believe in the basic principles and outlines of the Bible. The teachings and suggestions on how to live life. I don't believe its a document to be taken literally and many of the issues of organized religion comes from those who take their doctorine of any faith so literally.
Naw, just an obscenely large collection of smileys and .gifs! You have quite a bit of insight, Gruesam
Just catching up on this thread. I just gotta say "Wow!" Are you comparing a chicken egg to a human embryo?
