Re: DISNEY / FOX Deal Close! Thread Still Open! Please Come In!

It would take a true auteur to recognize the pop culture heritage inherent in the former Fox characters and use their singular vision to realize the ultimate filmic version without the need to indulge in juvenile Hard R type trappings for the sake of hipster street cred.

Re: DISNEY / FOX Deal Close! Thread Still Open! Please Come In!

I understand the negativity at the fox/Disney deal in general. It is....disconcerting that Disney might have that much control over that much intellectual property. Every concern I've heard about that, I think, is valid. But as for the X-Men specifically, I don't really get it. Fox's X-Men, as much as I like many of the movies, are kind of an incohesive mess. You know why I'm okay with Disney getting them? So I can watch an *****king X-Men film and not an Wolverine....and various 3rd wheels and cameos movie. Just because Deadpool and Logan were great(and I still think that's an opinion. I think Logan is very good and Deadpool is fun but overated) doesn't mean Fox's output has been consistant in anyway. I loved Days of Future Past but....so many characters don't speak. Cyclops and Jean appear in one scene. And I can go on and on about the overuse of Mystique and the Xavier/Magneto dynamic(which I love but shouldn't dominated EVERY X-Men movie). I want an real, ensemble X-Men film. So for all the negatives many have thought of about the deal in general, the X-Men coming over isn't one of them. Deadpool is not gonna magically disappear. Disney isn't going to throw out guaranteed moneymakers. And if New Mutants makes money, they'll sequalize that too. Now, will they mess with stuff? Certainly. I wouldn't be shocked if suddenly Brolin's Cable is used as some plot device to explain why the X-Men are now part of this world and many other concessions. But thinking all this stuff they've started is just...dead is nonsense. And obviously FF coming over can ONLY be a good thing as Fox is clueless on those characters.

Isn't he just doing a voice for a web series or something?

Another thing to consider is Disney may separate X-Men in the same way they separate the mcu from the Netflix and agents of shield. It's technically connected but we may rarely ever see it.

Some valid points but:

1. Disney will never give the auteurs FOX has been hiring a minute of their time. MCU movies are mostly "made by committee" movies with Feige overseeing the material and dumbing it down as much as possible to become more inviting box-office wise (so he and the rest of the Marvel Film division believe). No real creative vision is welcomed nor allowed, (though Gunn seems to have some small semblance of power there). So no Verbinski Cure for Wellness stylistic follow-up via Gambit, no Goddard-helmed R-Rated X-Force, no Franco-led detective story/film noir revolving around X-Factor Investigations. None of that. Just those titles and directors alone probably turn off Disney.

2. Characters like Deadpool and Cable and basically 90% of what FOX has currently in the works are poison to Marvel Studios. They're too bold and original. They'll wanna shut those characters down immediately so their stable of characters doesn't look safe and genetic by comparison (which they mostly are). Pathos and gravitas = things the Fox-verse allows to be mined while the MCU completely rejects.

Marvel is good at universe building.
There is no denying that, they are good at connecting their movies.

Having x men and fantastic 4 in the same roof is going to be so amazing.
Even if all the avengers completely quit or get kilked, the new era of movies has enough for another set of 12 movies with all these characters.
This is really gonna be so amazing.

Considering the success rate of your previous “never” posts... :lol

It’s almost like you don’t really know anything about the industry, but desperately want to sound like you do.

But muh auteur

Brilliant way of championing whatever it is you're championing.

Let's try my success rate at this: you're under 18 and live with your parents. If you wanna "school me" and prove me wrong link me to your FB via PM.

No no - he recently let slip that he is a filmmaker himself, who understands the hurdles of PG-limited studio filmmaking first-hand.

SNIKT’s words, not mine. Please don’t delete when he reports me.

But but -

1. I have absolutely no obligation to grant you any personal information about me nor does anyone on this forum.

Also, while you’re totally wrong about your weak cartoon stereotype, I’ve never claimed to be anything more than a fan. The onus is on you, “filmmaker.”

And considering your defense of Bryan Singer, I don’t really want you stalking my kid on FB.

Nice post.

So they're replacing Hugh Jackman with a younger Hugh Jackman? :lol
