Some valid points but:

1. Disney will never give the auteurs FOX has been hiring a minute of their time. MCU movies are mostly "made by committee" movies with Feige overseeing the material and dumbing it down as much as possible to become more inviting box-office wise (so he and the rest of the Marvel Film division believe). No real creative vision is welcomed nor allowed, (though Gunn seems to have some small semblance of power there). So no Verbinski Cure for Wellness stylistic follow-up via Gambit, no Goddard-helmed R-Rated X-Force, no Franco-led detective story/film noir revolving around X-Factor Investigations. None of that. Just those titles and directors alone probably turn off Disney.

2. Characters like Deadpool and Cable and basically 90% of what FOX has currently in the works are poison to Marvel Studios. They're too bold and original. They'll wanna shut those characters down immediately so their stable of characters doesn't look safe and genetic by comparison (which they mostly are). Pathos and gravitas = things the Fox-verse allows to be mined while the MCU completely rejects.

Snikt, can you honestly tell me that you believe Disney will not use Cable and Deadpool especially after Deadpool 2 comes out and makes at LEAST 300 million domestically and possibly more? I mean, there's just no way that will be the case. The X-force movie I also see going forward in some fashion or another.

As for Multiple Man and Gambit, I have doubts multiple man goes forward even if Fox doesn't sell to Disney and as for Gambit? That's another that's been in development hell so long I have to wonder who is actually hyped about that movie now? I grew up loving Gambit and he was my favorite X-Men for the entirety of the 90's. Then I got older and discovered he wasn't as interesting as kid me thought he was. I think Gambit works better in an ensemble and I can see that film being cancelled...and few caring. Verbinski is talented, he'll just make something else. Franco is also always spinning plates, he's not hurting for this MM movie to happen. And why do we need an hard R multiple man film in the first place?

I applaud Fox for getting experimental at this late in the game but...as "unique" as New Mutants might look...it don't really look like New mutants. I want X-Men that look and sound like X-Men.

If the deal goes through, I'll be shocked if everything post-Dark Phoenix doesn't get scrapped. X-Force isn't even in pre-pro yet. Neither are X-Factor Investigations or Gambit.

Verbinski's film is a Mutant Massacre film. For me that's the best X-Men crossover of all time. Naturally they're making Gambit the star. There's your movie. If you haven't read it, do yourself a favor. Its X-Men at its best.

Its an X-Factor Investigations detective story. The first onscreen Detective story starring Marvel characters. The X-Factor Investigations books are arguably one of the best written Marvel runs in the last 20 years. Madrox is superb in that run and Franco's a fan. A Marvel detective story would be much like Deadpool (comedy) and Logan (neo-western) - transcendent via its respective subgenre.

Boone's mutants aren't replacing the X-Men in any way though. They're a separate crew like X-Force, X-Factor Investigations and Excalibur. XMA was a weak film but it ended with the X-Men [finally] looking very much like the X-Men. What makes you think they won't "look and sound like X-Men" in a film set 10 years after XMA?

I see advantages to both but would prefer an already-functioning school be introduced into current MCU. As though mutants become suddenly exposed due to scrutiny of the the super-soldiery type activity.

This would be my choice.

There should not be many mutants, just enough to be notorious among conspiracy nuts, ultra secret black op programs and experiments, and enough to fill a school (or a couple) of "gifted" kids.

And they've always been there.

GOTG 2 introduced the concept of celestials interacting with humans, so that's one way to connect it to the emergence of mutants.

My guess, mutants are a myth, the X Men and the school operates secretly, but Shield and Fury know about it, one of his many secrets.
