Re: DISNEY / FOX Deal Close! Thread Still Open! Please Come In!

As cool as it would be to see the X-Men, Deadpool, F4, etc on the screen with their other counterparts at the house of Mickey, I have mixed feelings about this. There have been some very solid flicks put out (Logan, Deadpool, etc) put out that are very different from the MCU flicks. With the way that Hollywood has become with CBM's, I think that it is really important to have different takes/flavours on the subject. The Fox-Verse has included some pretty tough issues into its films, and that in and of itself is a stark contrast to the MCU. I have issues with some of the ways characters have been handled by Fox, but I like that it feels so different. Logan was fantastic this year. I want to see more CBM's that take those types of tones on. You have Deadpool which was like watching a CBM comedy on steroids, and for me that worked. Ryan Reynolds is very invested in the character and branching the storylines out. Again, it makes for a stark contrast to the MCU. And that's a good thing, IMO.

If this deal does go through, my main interest would where things go, cosmic wise.

There is no ETC..... there is no etcetera..... those are the ONLY two movies used as an excuse for this deal to not happen
Fantastic four was screwed up TWICE... DC is in ruins, Spiderman was ruined by spiderman 3 AND ruined by a bad reboot set and then rescued by Disney.....
X men has been hit and miss, those movies are pg 13, no different than marvel.
Wolverine has the MOST embarrasing x men movie that was "batman and robin" levels of awful...
Deadpool was in development hell for a decade... almost didnt get made.
Studio didnt have faith on the deadpool project if it WASNT for the leaked footage...

Come on..... LOGAN and Deadpool dont erase a decade of movie disasters and bad management and horrible movies....

The worst marvel movie does NOT come close to being as bad as green lantern or x men origins wolverine or fantastic4
Or amazing spiderman 2.......
Marvel has never had an embarrassing mistake like that.

They LITERALLY saved spiderman from the catastrophe that was the amazing spiderman series.....

Please dont use LOGAN and deadpool as an example of other studios learning or as an exampe of good R rated things to come.

I named Deadpool and Logan since they are pretty recent. I thought First Class was pretty good, and DOFP. XMA was abysmal, and needs no further comment. Origins was a dumpster fire. Xmen 3 was a complete write off. The timelines are all messed up. I know, there are a lot of misfires so to speak with Fox.

But, one of my main things is the themes that we get to see explored to varying degrees on this side of Marvel. When you look at the MCU, for the most part, they don't really get too involved with deep themes, IMO. WS had the whole "big brother" thing going on sure, which was very fitting for Cap in his movie, mind you. Civil War tried to carry that momentum forward with the whole Sokovia Accords thing but meh, there really isn't much to say there. Civil War was okay at best.

Variety is the spice of life. If there is only one studio making CBM's, that will not be a positive, IMO. People will lose interest and burn out faster. Look at Ant-Man and Doctor Strange. They are pretty much carbon copies of each other. We don't need anymore of that.

The more takes on these subjects/characters, the greater the chance there will be something for everybody.

And DC.... poor DC. But eh, that is on WB. They have failed. JL should have been so much more.

Marvel Studios has never had an embarrassing mistake

Try a dozen embarrassing mistakes.

1. Iron Man 2 (2010) Mediocre
2. Thor (2011) Safe popcorn
3. Captain America: The First Avenger (2011) Mediocre
4. Iron Man 3 (2013) Crap
5. Thor: The Dark World (2013) Hot Garbage
6. Avengers: Age of Ultron (2015) Safe popcorn
7. Ant-Man (2015) Crap
8. Captain America: Civil War (2016) Safe popcorn
9. Doctor Strange (2016) Crap
10. Spider-Man: Homecoming (2017) Safe, mediocre crap
11. Thor: Ragnarok (2017) Safe popcorn

That's your MCU. Mostly safe, mediocre, generic, uninspired popcorn crap targeted at young children.

The X-Films FOX made after Rothman's departure artistically obliterate the MCU.

None of those were the level of x men origins or the new fantastic 4. Or x men 3 for that matter, or what they did to deadpool's production.
Rothman or not, mediocre is not the same as franchise kilker.

And you talk about "Mostly safe, mediocre, generic, uninspired popcorn crap targeted at young children."
Thats literally what they did with x men apocalypse.

Deadpool is Ryan Reynolds baby, he carried it for years, he fought for it, he never gave up.
You cannot use the success of deadpool to brag about fox, doing that is...idiotic

I am glad that he did. That is one of the reasons that he needs to stay with it. He is very passionate about the character and the franchise. And that IMO, goes a long way. At least he won't be bored while on set. It also means that he is very involved with the creative process and wants to do right. Good for him. I mean, he basically got Fox to get rid of Tim because of creative differences. Keep this guy around, and let us see what we get. With David Leitch and Josh Brolin involved, I think we will a movie that will standout next year.

Im just saying this deal is not the worst thing ever to happen.

Spiderman homecoming might be " genetic safe crap for kids"
But it beats the hell out of amazing spiderman 2 vomit, and it was much better than amazing spiderman 1.
Sony literally killed spiderman and marvel gave it new life.

Thats my point, fox ( like sony) has not shown me that they will always do a good job , x men apocalypse proves that.
Apocalypse proved they did not learn anything.

Star wars is doing very well too. As "safe and mediocre and kiddie crap " as it is, they are not as horrible as the prequels.

Both star wars and spiderman and pixar movies have proved me time after time after time that disney knows how to pick their talent and knows how to do a good movie. Knows how to respect the characters and they know how to treat their fans right.
Look at coco. If the new x men are treated as wonderful as coco was then the fox properties will be in very good hands.
The best hands.

Fantastic 4 will be epic with Marvel. Just imagine Spidey and the Hulk hanging out with them. Galactus and Surfer!

I imagine X-Men will be a total reboot.

All this will lead up to the biggest Marvel movies ever: Avengers vs X-Men

Re: DISNEY / FOX Deal Close! Thread Still Open! Please Come In!

There is only ONE thing that could be bigger than A vs X and it will never happen: Marvel vs DC

I actually dont want that.
I dont want to see heroes fight more heroes
Besides i rather see the netflix characters jumping to the movie screen instead, why bring batman if you have daredevil.
Why bring wonder woman if you have jessica jones, why bring cyborg when u have misty knight.

Why bring superman when you have the equivalent in the punisher :dunno

Hahaha although punisher is a little bit more emotional than that vengeful killing my machine Supes!

I don't even want an avengers vs x-men (though I expect it will happen). Wonder who will be in the avengers team at that point? Would definitely prefer to see the Netflix characters in the MCU movies!

The only thing I see on that list is billions of dollars :lol

That has to be one of your best posts ever.

Not kidding.

That pretty much says it all.

It is a big bummer though with this coming 10 years into the MCU already.

The MCU is good but it would’ve been epic had Marvel started with these characters from the very start.

Lots of missed opportunities having to cut corners during their world building.

Real shame.

But i’m not going to cry over spilt milk bring on Doom!

Which is why I’m glad Sony is losing it’s grip on Spider-Man . I’ve told snikt multiple times that Sony almost killed the brand and another movie by them would be a final nail in the coffin.

But muh hard R needs to be made to push da boundaries! Derp!

Nah. These studios want butts in seats and like it or not children love superheroes so they won’t be having hard R Spider-Man movies or FF movies cause they want a wide market. Logan was mad R cause it was the last hugh movie and they wanted to go all out. Fox and especially Sony aren’t trying to be “auteur” they want money.
