I have one friend who collects Transformers only(old and new), but I'm trying to get him over to the SS side. He is pretty impressed with the SW figures I have, so maybe when he sees my set-up next time, it may convert him.

i actually had to search out new friends that were into collecting. most of my friends i grew up with want to get married and have families. man i just want to get premium format hulk.

When I was a teenager up until I was about 25 I really didn't have any friends who shared the same passion as me. I started working at an online toy/collectibles store and made a bunch of new friends who loved everything from Military figures to Star Wars Collectibles. I haven't worked there in 3 years but we are all still friends. I see them whenever I have free time.

Nope, none :monkey2
The ones that have seen my collection thinks it's pretty cool but at the same time, a waste of money.

I'm so glad we have various boards to post on :chew

I have 3 friends (plus the little girl I nanny for) who think my stuff is cool. 2 of them do some minor collecting....but very little compared to me. Most of the people I know though get the glassed over eye look when I start talking about my figures....they nod and smile but you know they are thinking I'm a complete dork. :lol That's what I love about this board....if it wasn't for here I would be rather loney when it comes to these things.

yea, they have their priorities up their asses. I would much rather have a PF Doom than a hot girlfriend for a while. :lol:lol:lol:lol Hot g/f for 6 months, PF Doom forever.

The only other collector I know would be my brother but he only has a few Hot Toys figures, thanks to me. His real passion is the 1980's Heman stuff, way more energy with Heman than I do with all my collectibles.

I dont know anyone in person that shares this same passion, ive found collectors like me over forums, thats about it...

I find your situation to be very interesting. I'm going to be honest and say you are one very attractive young woman and I find it hard to believe that you have people who basically don't get you when it comes to collecting. With the number of guys here who say they have to explain to their wives why they are buying these cool collectibles yet someone like you only has less than a handful of collector buddies is quite humbling yet refreshing.
I believe that everyone has something that they like to do that is not the ordinary yet they are proud to love it. Ours just happens to be in the collectibles/action figure/video game/movies/television. Isn't it funny how they all run together. You would think we would all find a common ground.
Well, here is one for the extraordinary people.

Thanks Demon King. :) I really just haven't met any collectors in the area. I went to the Seattle Comicon earlier this year hoping I'd meet some other local collectors but nada. Truthfully, some of them kinda scared me....with their long hair and black trench coats!! :lol All my friends are getting married and have families so I'm pretty much a lone wolf. :lol :lol So I'm really looking forward to going to SDCC so I can meet some of the people from this board. :)

Yeah, finding collectors that are actually cool can be a daunting task. Too many of the old stereotypes are true :monkey4

Okay I totally understand wanting to have a family but your hobby shouldn't suffer for it, but this is from a guy who counts his dogs as family. I also agree that there are some collectors that are a little creepy. I volunteer at Wizard World here in Philly every year and I get my fair share of exposure to the weird and wild. We are all one big community, and we all have something in common.
I am sure there is some untapped resource in Washington that has what you are looking for. If not there is always the Freaks.
Good luck finding your happy place.

My little brother Jason and my best friend Derrick both share the same interests as me. They both love Marvel, Star Wars, Lord of the Rings and Transformers. My brother has a few Marvel statues, Maul 1:1 bust and a few Star Wars 12". Derrick Has a couple Star Wars 12" and mostly collects Marvel 6" figures. They both love my PF's and Dios and would like to collect them, but can't afford them. :monkey2 They're also into Movies and Comics and they've been to Comic-con with me, so I am thankful to at least have my brother and my friend be into the same stuff as me. Not to mention my Freaks family, who I also have to share my interests with! :duff :)

I'm thankful that this board exists so I can talk to people about my passion. I have friends and co-workers that appreciate the quality of some of the stuff I own, but they dont' understand it, nor can I really explain it, so other than a passing comment, they could care less what I have to say. I'm pretty used flying solo in all of my passions though, I've always just done my own thing, I used to get asked why I still wore Star Wars t-shirts in high school. I'm happier looking back on my life knowing I do things how I want though, and my philosophy is if people can't at least support your life style then they're not worth having in your life because it's who you are and people have to at least accept that, even if they're not excited about it.

Yes, i have friends thats are collectors but i dont collect so much as my friends nowadays i slowed my collecting but one of my friends keep collecting an keep collecting i think he will end sleeping over his collection.

I'm the only one I know locally that is a collector, everyone I know just thinks I am an idiot for dumping so much money into my crap. The only thing that helps is my customizing, kinda makes it easier to handle I guess. :lol

Thank God for all of you guys, you make me feel a lot better about being such a big dork. :D

Heh..interesting thread. Pretty much everyone I know admires the pieces (or humors me) but would never personally invest in them. A guy I work with recently did an interview for some magazine and was telling me about the guy doing the interview having a MR Falcon(guessing from description) in his office and how ridiculous it was....all the while I'm thinking, "If that's bad you should see my basement" lol! Most of the people I know are either musicians or university faculty and I would guess that I would really take alot of abuse if it wasn't for my smokin' other half and musician's past.
:lol:lol:lol

Word.

Years ago (ie: High School) it was my friends that got me into collecting figures. Movie Maniacs was in it's heyday and everybody was buying up Todd's stuff. The idea of collecting toys (outside of Star Wars) seemed weird to me. I was kinda into it, but not nearly as much as my friends.

Years went by and my friends' interest eventually waned but mine surprisingly grew.

Now none of my friends collect, but my house is full of the stuff (minus the Star Wars, but that's another story).

well, in terms of 1/6 scale? yeah, i'm pretty much alone. but collecting wise? i do have my brother and my friend. my brother buys A LOT of stuff. very varied. my friend, he's mostly into transformers.

i also am varied, but btwn the 3 of us, i'm the only one that collects 1/6.

it's a lonely world for me.

that's why i come here! :D
