Geb posted a similar questionnaire over at The Green Dragon!!! Check it out and make your opinion heard there as well!

Woodsy,

sorry, I didn't see your question up there! I think that Frodo initially was a difficult sell, but people came to understand that a PF will fall into a certain price range due to the nature of the line, and he eventually sold.

I think people have a better understanding of what they are getting with a hobbit in the PF line at this stage, and will be more open to the price point that was originalluy scoffed at with Frodo.

Does this make sense?

Thanks!

Personally I wouldn't buy any of them. The only way I'd buy Sam is if he came with Bill but Merry and Pippin are passable. If SSC made the LOTR PFs in a way that they could be interlocked or at least seem that way it'd be different but the bases are in a way that they'd just be next to each not look like interacting with each other. I had really no interest in the Thing PF but when I saw that the bases matched up with the Hulk PF it instantly made me want to buy it and get excited about it just to make the scene.

No problem Seaward :lol, and yes it does make sense. I don't think anyone would flinch today at the prospect of a $250 Hobbit PF, but seeing as the Hobbits were historically the worst selling statues of the SSW line, I still believe the likenesses will have to be good in order for them to be successful. Hopefully SS will give us the opportunity to put our theories to the test. :D

I can understand the reluctance from SS on the Hobbit front given the slow to sell Frodo situation, but he was only a second release and the line has certainly picked up since then. Even surviving the glitches that came with GTW, Galadriel, MO and, I don't doubt, the current eye problem some are having with Leggy.
I'm just glad that there is a genuine opportunity for Sideshow to guage the popularity of the Fellowship idea as I have always felt that there is more than me who would want the 9 walkers .

No doubt some of the PF's can go togther quite nicely but these are in essence, stand alone pieces. These statues are already big enough as is, and I don't think the addition space required for them to interact in pairs as 1/4 scale diorama's is going to appeal to most people. We have the dio. line for that very reason and at 1/9 scale some of those are already as big as I would ever want them to be. :google

I too prefer the stand alone nature of the PF line. While some characters display very nicely together (like Aragorn and Lurtz) each piece is nice enough to be a stand alone display. This way, if we don't get the complete fellowship (god forbid!) it will still look like a nice collection, no matter how many characters you might have.

I hope so, the addition of nameplates kind of seals their fate. :lol

Some days I do wish I could display the base backwards! People who are not familiar with LOTR who come over to my place though all look at the name plates and then connect which character is wish. I guess not everyone obsesses over this film the way we do!:duh

The poll on The Green Dragon needs a little help though, with only 34 people voting and only 44% saying that they would be interested in all three hobbits!

The name plates don't really bother me to be honest as I think it adds to the museum type feel of the figures, and whilst I still believe some are 'paired', they can all stand alone and stand out.

While I would certainly think about buying every character of the fellowship, including the hobbits, it would ultimately come down to the final sculpt and the pose chosen. I'm not enough of a completest to need every piece if I don't like the sculpt. I tend to purchase Pf's that appeal to me on an artistic level as well as a personal level in connection to the films. If the pieces were as good as Gandalf currantly looks, I'd certainly be in for all of the Hobbits.
