I wonder how big of a run, say on Merry or Pippin, that Sideshow would have to make to still make a profit? They made 1,000 Frodos. I wonder if they'd still make a good profit if they only made 500 each of Merry and Pippin?

Galadriel was limited to 500 pieces, and I think some of the Disney PF's hover around this mark. I would think that 500 would be a good estimate for Merry and Pippin.

I think the hobbits throw people off a little when it comes to collectibles like this though. Even if the sculpt is smaller to maintain scale within the line, the amount of resources are going to be the same to sculpt and clothe Pippin as it would for a larger figure like the Moria Orc. Frodo was a little bit cheaper than Lurtz, but I think people were expecting hobbits to be half the price at half the size.

I know I did:eek:

I'm glad to see this poll doing so well so far :rock

And personally I voted for all 3. I'm still catching up with the PF line, but eventually i'd like to have the whole fellowship, which would obviously be incomplete without the hobbits. C'mon Sideshow, don't leave fellowship collectors high and dry again! :lol

If they did Merry and Pip as a joint piece (after all they are quite small compared to a regular PF) and Sam with a large sack of pots and pans, I couldnt resist.

I voted all three and would like them separate. If the existing PFs were designed to be displayed together, it would make more sense to combine some but as it stands they aren't. Each seem to come from a different scene in the movie, so if it were possible give me merry and pip in armour ala ROTK and Sam as a companion piece to frodo.

I think the LOTR PFs have not done as well as they could becos of the uncertanity surrounding the line.

Let ppl know that the complete fellowship is coming and more ppl will commit to the purhases.

For me, all 3 would be a must.

I like the idea of Peregrin and Meriadoc together but price would be a huge factor in my purchase.

I personally would like all three as seperate pieces.
All the other LotR PF's are seperate.
Having them seperate would give more options on the design of each piece such as stance, clothing and base.
I would like to see them all in fellowship attire. This would match more closely to the pieces that have been, or are soon to be, released.

However, all three of these characters came into their own as they progressed in the series. A representation of this would also be wonderful to see in PF form.

No matter what...
All three are a must!

Is the fact that every PF is sold out, other than Galadriel and the reg. Gandalf, your idea of a line not doing as well as it could? Do you really think people refrained from buying The Berserker, Aragorn or Legolas [to name a few] because they're unsure as to whether all 3 remaining Hobbits will be produced? Please tell me your kidding.......

And as if those comments aren't silly enough, then you say you want ROTK version's of Merry and Pippin? Just what we need, 7 fellowship members in fellowship outfits, and 2 without. I do not want Merry and Pippin in anything other than fellowship garb. And I believe these are the sentiments of about 99.5% of the other LOTR collectors out there as well.

I think I get where you are coming from in that knowing upfront that a Fellowship was a definate, the PF's would possibly sell out each time as soon as they were released on pre order. But, how many people access sites and forums like these and get to know about these things in the first place? They are becoming more desirable as more people get to know about them I think and they are looking to be a strong 'flagship' piece for the LOTR line.
I have been happy with the choices of garments up to now and though they would look great in their armour, I am in the 'Fellowship' garb camp :peace

Actually there should be another option on the poll. I voted all 3, but that would literally only be if they were in 'fellowship' garb. No armour for me.

I just don't see alot of people shelling out big bucks for each and every PF announced on the basis of SS saying they are going to complete the fellowship. How many average to sub-standard quality PF's are people going to be willing to purchase simply on the basis of SS putting that carrot in front of us? The Frodo PF is the perfect example of this. Is there any PF out there that could have sent a louder and clearer message to SS that we want a complete fellowship? Yet there it sat in SS's warehouse for 2 1/2 years. Surely any and every experienced collector recognized how important it was for Frodo to be a success in order to ensure the other Hobbits would be produced. But it wasn't a success, which indicates to me that quality is going to sell out each and every piece and nothing else.

I still think that Frodo as a PF was a particularly hard sell given the size of the character and the price. I think that a lot of people (myself included) were expecting hobbits to be significantly cheaper since the size of the character is 1/2 other characters in the line. He may be smaller, but the same amount of time, resources, and design went into every aspect of Frodo as would a "human-sized" PF. The price point was a big issue for a lot of people expecting him to be $125-150 given he was so much smaller than Lurtz.

A lot of people didn't like the portrait either. I think it is a great Frodo, and the expression captures his character well. He looks scared of what is going on around him! My only quibble is the lack of a paint application in his mouth to give it more definition.

I hope that we get the "Fellowship" characters (hobbits included) and save armored or alternate costume choices for the maquette line. It would be a nice way to get the best of both worlds!

So why would the other Hobbits be an easier sell then? Although Frodo is significantly smaller than Lurtz and the other PF's, the amount of time and labour that goes into creating these is still the same. The only difference is Frodo is comprised of less polystone than the others, and polystone, being nothing more than a cement aggregate, isn't exactly an expensive material.
If, as you suggest, the "bang for the buck" and facial issue were enough of a reason for collectors to stay away from Frodo then SS is going to have to be willing to not only lower the price of the other Hobbits [simply not going to happen], but also make absolutely sure the likenesses are bang on. Is it wonder SS has beeen extremely hesitant to commit to 3 more Hobbit PF's?

I might agree, but you certainly come off as a pretentious _______ yet again; back to ignore for this ******* owl. :gun
